The Ja'Marr Chase Thread

week 1 game?
Hate to say it, because he’s my LSU boy, but man, Chase is looking like a bust.

I'll take any bust at WR if it means 61 receptions, 1038 yards, and 10 TDs from a 21 year old rookie. Do I wish he dominated every game, yes. Is that a fair expectation, no.

Tee was mostly shutdown, too. Which seemed nearly impossible after 3 straight 100+ yards games. But that Denver secondary is legit. I know Parsons is getting all the hype out of the rookie defensive players (and rightfully so), but Surtain has been really good as a 1st year CB.

Chase and Tee having a quiet day is fine though when it comes in win. Yesterday was Boyd’s turn to eat.

He’s been shut down in what... 4 or 5 of the last 6 games?

He's definitely had a slump but that shouldn't signify bust. It is way, way too early and he has still been quite productive this season. Calling him a bust is a very knee-jerk reaction.
And it’s not even so much that’s he’s been “shutdown” (other than against Denver), as it’s been a case of him leaving some big plays on the field. The drops have cost him at least 3 more TD’s, and a bunch of yards. He’s still beating coverage’s on a regular basis though.

Yesterday’s game you just have to tip your hat to the Denver secondary. They did a great job at bottling up both Chase and Tee.

Sucks this one got canceled out by the penalty. It was honestly one of the better catches Chase had made all season.

He is a game manager who’s playing for the GOAT coach. He won’t lose you many games but he isn’t going to win any for you either

Chase needs to finish strong and i think he can win it (especially if the Bengals pull their heads out of their asses and make the playoffs)

Probable OROY Rashawn Slater has had no slumps.

LOL

I guess Hendrickson helped hold them to 34 of their 41 points.

Nah, he just beat Slater for a sack and gave him fits all day.

Anyway, the only thing LOL worthy is you thinking Slater is a “probable” OROY candidate. Kid has been great, but he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell.

How did Chase do in that game? Was he giving fits or INTs?

Well that one he bobbled certainly looked like he was having some sort of fit…

6 of the last 7.

Over his last 7 games, he's produced a statline of 26-284-4 on 51 targets.

This is a pace of 63-690-9 for a full season...which honestly still wouldn't be bad for a rookie WR. That said, we're still targeting him like he's great, and he hasn't been lately.

Burrow is only completing 51.0% of his throws targeting Chase, for a paltry 5.57 per attempt. Chase is struggling, and there's no way around that.

The bust word is ridiculous right now. He was balling out in the first 7, and just hit some kind of wall. I expect him to climb out at some point, but it's taking longer than I thought. Long enough that worry is 100% valid.

Yeah, unfair to label him a bust. But a far cry from the start of the season. If we're looking at sub-1000 seasons for single digit touchdowns, then meh. He's gone from being someone entertaining to watch to 'oh, that guy.'
