Bengals get screwed in preseason scheduling?
Posted by: GreenCornBengal - 08-21-2015, 01:26 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (25)

The dates of our next three preseason games are the 24th, 29th and 3rd.

Meaning, 4 days between the 2nd and 3rd game and 4 days between the 3rd and 4th game.

Is this really fair?

I thought to myself that other teams must have to go through this as well, and teams do like the Buccaneers and Steelers. However other teams like the Seahawks have for example have 7 days between their 2nd and 3rd games.

Detroit had their second game on the 20th, their 3rd on the 28th and last on the 3rd. So 7 days, then 5 days.

We are stuck with 4 and 4.

Are the preseason games staggered because training camps start at different times? I don't get why all the teams don't just have similar preseason schedules.

Anyone else think this is somewhat bogus?

  Mo Eggar on Andy
Posted by: FanStuckInIndy - 08-21-2015, 12:58 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (78)

Recently saw and listened to Mo Eggar on Sports of All Sorts with Ken Broo. His analysis of the Bengals has never impressed me until this last episode of this show, and what he had to say about Andy. Many of you know, that Mo Eggar was never short on complaints slung Andy's way in the past, but his criticism has turned into praise.

The problem that I was having with Mo Eggar, was that he would often call out our QB by name, and single him out personally - often, when I thought his criticism was unfair.

In this recent appearance with Ken Broo, however, Mo Eggar clearly stated that those who do not support our quarterback, want him to fail. Those who want him to fail, do not want the want the Bengals to win. He then went on to say, if you don't want our team to win, then you are not a Bengals fan. This is my viewpoint as well.

As far as I was concerned, Mo Eggar did not represent the team he reported for in the way he should, and was therefore not qualified for the job, in my opinion. He is still on the radio though, and this turnaround, to me, has him a lot closer to where he needs to be to keep my interest in his discussions on the Bengals.

Good on him, is what I say. And I will be addressing him personally, through one outlet or another, to let him know I noticed. Without calling out any other fans necessarily, I support Mo Eggar's opinion on this matter.

Extension Projection: George Iloka

He's quietly been one of the better players on a strong Cincinnati Bengals defense, even called their "secret weapon" by Pro Football Focus last season. Now safety George Iloka is the in the 4th and final year of his rookie contract with the Bengals, and all signs point to a forthcoming extension. We'll assess the current value of Iloka, stacking him up against four of the top safeties in the league with recent contracts to project what his extension might look like.

  Bodine has a point
Posted by: BURROWorBUST - 08-20-2015, 10:19 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (52)

Quote:SNAP CALL:Bengals center Russell Bodine has been here before. In fact, last year during his first training camp on the way to a solid rookie season.

On Thursday there was another wayward Bodine snap, a problem that has surfaced with alarming frequency. The same thing happened last preseason, but it didn’t become an issue during the season.

On Monday, a bad snap sparked an Andy Dalton outburst. On Thursday, they replaced Bodine with T.J. Johnson for three plays and he and Dalton had an exchange problem, too. Bodine came back and he says the consistent snapping will too.

“Last year I had to tell you that it wouldn’t be a problem and I’ll tell you the same thing again,” Bodine said after practice. “We’re trying to work on different techniques. Obviously it’s not acceptable even though we’re working on different techniques. It messes up the whole play. “

Bodine says it comes down to handling the ball differently to match the pass protection.

“We’re trying different stuff with my hands to try and firm up middle protection and we don’t have it down yet,” Bodine said. “I don’t know when you’re supposed to work on this stuff other than practice. It is practice.

“You don’t want to be the guy to let the team down,” Bodine said. “But I don’t know when you’re supposed to work on it.”

First off, doesn't he have a point? Evidently, the offense at UNC didn't demand that the center use different grips and techniques for "handling the ball differently to match the pass protection."

Secondly, I'm impressed that centers have different snaps for different protections. Does anyone here know about these things?

Next off-season, Andy will have to invite his WRs and his centers to train with him, I guess.

  Eifert Scare

Apparently the guy took a hard fall.
It definitely feels like an epic drum-roll when it comes to his health.
I am a big Andy Dalton supporter and think Eifert will help make Dalton look like a top 10 qb if he stays healthy.

Adam Jones: "I would have $100 million right now"

Adam Jones thinks he’d have $100 million but for his suspension
Posted by Mike Florio on August 20, 2015, 7:46 AM EDT

In many respects, it’s amazing that Bengals cornerback Adam Jones remains in the NFL a full decade after the artist formerly known as Pacman arrived amid a flurry of off-field entanglements that culminated in a one-year suspension after only two NFL seasons.

Jones, who soon will turn 32 in a sport that consistently turns toward younger players, believes that if he hadn’t gotten into trouble he’d have a lot more money in the bank.

“If I would have never gotten suspended, I would have $100 million right now,” Jones said, via Coley Harvey of ESPN.com.

The subject came up after reporters were posing questions about Jones’ football career if he’d only be a kick and punt returner instead of a defensive back, too.

“Ifa, woulda, coulda,” Jones said.

Of course ifa/woulda/could Jones had $100 million, he’d still owe more than $12 million of it to the guy who was shot in Las Vegas during an incident that Jones allegedly instigated. Unless his ifa/woulda/coulda applies not just to the suspension but to the specific behaviors that contributed to it.

Since then, Jones has matured considerably, becoming a key contributor to a Bengals team that has been to the postseason in four of his five seasons in Cincinnati. It’s an impressive story of redemption for a player who eight years ago seemed destined to be long gone from the NFL by the end of that decade.

Instead, he’s made it halfway into the next one, and he’s still going strong.

  Pat Sims ACTION CARD!!!
Posted by: BURROWorBUST - 08-19-2015, 08:08 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - No Replies

Remember those "Action Cards" we used to get back when we bought packs of baseball or football cards? Instead of posed shots, these were shots taken from games or practices.

I thought this would be the perfect Action Card for Pat Sims.

I remember when I went to camp down in Georgetown about 3 years ago, that was Pat Sims' position. Guarding the Gatorade. This was before he left for Oakland, of course.) Now that he's back with us, he's back on Gatorade guard duty. He can be a real force when he's on the field, but I have to feel a little bad for the guy if he has such a hard time staying healthy.

Bengals.com should do more articles like this

A player journal authored by the player himself. This gives you a look inside the player's mind you can't get elsewhere if done right (like Jeter's The Player's Tribune). Instead, I go back for the first time in months and they just have Hobspin pontificating about how Michael Johnson prayed after his injury, DeShawn Williams' father, and a weak headline with a 3/10 Leon Hall pun attempt. Like what's next, a fluff piece called Kumerow-Row-Row Your Boat about Jake Kumerow's record-setting prep school rowing career?

Assuming there are people associated with the Bengals checking on this message board to see how badly they dropped the ball, CAN YOU DO THIS? Maybe an A.J. Green camp diary written by Adriel himself? You would bring back some of your loyal fans/page views you totally gave the finger to.

Bengals sign Michael Bennett, WR, UGa
Posted by: BURROWorBUST - 08-19-2015, 11:25 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (62)

And they cut Jake Murphy, one of the 38 TEs we seem to have.

It's good to see them trying to build some more depth at WR.

Bennett did nothing to stick around in Oakland or Miami. Maybe he'll fit here
