Thanks.
The way I always look at PFF ratings is more like tiers and less of a numbered list.
For example, the difference between Jonah Williams (77.1) and Andrew Thomas (78.9) is negligible.
They're both basically in that B range if treating it like a school grade.
The only guys I'd really put in a tier above Jonah Williams are:
Trent Williams
Tyron Smith
I'd probably put Jordan Mailata and Kolton Miller too, but they've only been at this level for a couple years.
Maybe Rashawn Slater (let's see how he does in sophomore year), Charles Leno, and Donovan Smith as well.
But I don't think Jonah Williams is that far behind those guys.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

I'd pick up the opition just to kick the can down the road.
Jonah was the 11th ranked LT in the league in 2021. Age 24
I’d say that makes him one of the better LT’s in the game.
He’ll prob be a top 10 left tackle in 2022 now that whitworth is retired

My thoughts are to pick up the 5th year option and then work on an extension that starts once the existing contract expires. Williams has been a solid LT for us and while he isn't elite, I don't see any reason to create a hole at the LT position or to let him go without having an obvious heir apparent (which we don't have currently). Maybe another LT comes in the draft, but I'd hope we focus more on other positions of need vs. trying to find another LT.

Now see where Jonah ranks within Left Tackles
15th overall for LT that have taken at least 50% of max snaps.

His main PFF page has him at 77.1

Might be better to just compare regular season grades, as some of those guys didn’t play in the postseason (ie face the best teams multiple more times).

Yep. You're right. I forgot to reset to regular season only.

One other thing to remember is PFF (and some others) have some sacks charged to Jonah that REALLY belong to the TE, RB or (per Burrow) to Burrow himself as he DID by his own statement hold the ball too long for a good part of last season. It doesn't mean Jonah is perfect, just that you have to take PFF ratings in general and stats with a grain of salt.

Man....I thought sniffing model airplane glue went out of favor in the 70s. Until I read some takes on this thread. Yikes!

You’re being too kind. Your average glue sniffer wouldn’t even make such an ignorant statement.

Easily the most important number in that ranking is 1044

yes, not all of those guys earned that grade solely at LT.
I know Mailita was moved around on the line til they settled him at LT

Cam Robinson just got 18.5 per over 3 so start there as a floor for Jonah.

Everyone seems to think that if you're not a Top 10 player at your position, draft a replacement ASAP.
Blows my mind.
Jonah Williams is a very solid player and the Bengals should keep him.
If anything, they could always move Jonah to LG if Carman isn't panning out by end of next season.
Personally, I'd keep Jonah at OT, but I think he'd also make a great LG.

I do not get the gripes with him
I think its because he has games where he is just not good. e.g. Justin Huston threw him around one of the games last year. there were others but I wanted to get an example out there. With that said we have no better prospects and nothing to draft that would start over him. he is a serviceable left tackle.

Cam Robinson just signed a 3 year extension today for 54 million. That's 18 million a year and we all know Jonah is better than him. Anybody comfortable paying Jonah 20 million a year??? Nope not me.

Some team will. He's young. A fairly quality player.
Jonah is the new Justin Smith. The line was bad but Jonah was the best player, so some of the board dislikes him irrationally.

I don't dislike him I think he is solid but he's not worth 20 million a year.
