I'm kind of confused as to why defenders get away with borderline to flat out dirty hits on our 55 million dollar qb without any kind of repercussion. It seems like the last time we saw anyone get sideways about a rusher's treatment of 9 was when Spain went after Watt in 2021.
Burrow is out there taking shots like a tackling dummy. Parsons should have been annihilated for the shot he put on him yesterday. Someone should have curb-stomped TJ last Sunday when he tried to twist his ankles. If the refs are going to hold onto the flags, then it's on the OL to enforce that kind of BS.
Idk if they are terrified of penalties or what. I just know that I'm really getting tired of seeing defenders tee off on our qb in ways that would get our guys flagged every single time. Elite qbs are afforded the benefit of hyper-protection in every case but Burrow for whatever reason. That facemask yesterday was an inexcusable blown call, and it's not even the first one of significance.
Maybe the guys up front get sick of holding blocks while he navigates the pocket seemingly forever. Maybe they hate being on a team that underutilizes the run game as an identity. No idea. All I know is that if Joe makes it through this now meaningless season unscathed, it will be nothing short of a miracle.

This team lacks enforcers in general. They do not have had them on offense, Whitworth, or defense, Burfict, for a long, long time.
I would not mind seeing the Bengals draft or sign some hammers for either side of the ball. Heck, even a angry, hard running hammer of a RB would be nice to take some weight off Joe and deliver hits to the defense.
I get it, and agree.

Parsons hit Burrow right after he released the ball. I'm just going to guess all 5 linemen were still looking forward and engaging pass rushers. It's not like they have eyes in the back of their heads. Taylor is the one who should have been throwing his headset onto the field and jumping into the refs ear.

I'm not upset they're not retaliating - penalties hurt the team. I'm upset the defenders are getting to him in the first place.

I guess. At some point there has to be a line. I despise Watt. He always does a little extra something to test the waters. He's Burfict lite with better PR representation and a "look at me" pain in the ass older brother to go out and protect him in the media. Someone needs to hold him to account. You don't have to do it on every single play if a tone is set. Defenses will figure out what you'll tolerate fairly quickly. They also risk an actual penalty any time the test you, so I feel like a little emphasis on deterrent would be a worthy tactic to consider.

That's all good and well, but there is also a difference between a clean and legal hit and some of the abuse that Burrow has endured that went uncalled. If the OL reacted as a unified force, even one time, it would send the message loud and clear to the League.

Maybe so. But Steelers will always target him with the thought of taking him out of the game.

True, but they should not be allowed to simply "get away with it", at least let it cost the guilty party a well earned spearing in the small of the back...

I’m sure the feeling is mutual. Joe should get these “glass eaters” tickets to the ballet for Xmas. They’d fit right in there.

I don't think any of them have "that dog in em". It's cutesy and nice that Zac likes the whole "they were captains" thing, but an NFL team needs a goon or four on it... As far as I can tell Ja'Marr Chase has the nastiest disposition on the team. That won't suffice.

I would agree with that. I remember back during all the Sewell vs Chase stuff Racer was always talking about how much of an alpha Chase is. And he was right.
And speaking of Racer, whatever happened to that guy? Haven’t seen him post in forever. He was a good one.

I agree. Sometimes I miss the "F-You, Tennessee!" version of Karras. I wonder where that guy went.
It seems like Matt Lee has a reputation for nastiness from Miami. Maybe he can be a bit of a goon once he gets a little more size on his frame.

Neither Pollack or Lou will be back next season. They’re the two most logical places to start if you’re not going to fire Taylor.

Sure would like to see the OL defend their guy alright. I think as Jason says here none of these guys besides Karras have that dog in them. When
Simmons went at Karras's knees years back the fight was on. I know we don't like to commit penalties but Joe Burrow is our everything. I also think
the way we are always in Shotgun it sabotages the OL instead of being under Center and never commit to running the ball to help out the OL.

Yeah, Ja'Marr is our nastiest player that is for sure. We need to add some more like him.

There's very little to no "dawg" on this team. The defense looks like they're playing patty cake the vast majority of the time.

They’re both coming back, especially of the bengals manage to win the next few games.
