Giving Higgins $28m/yr to be our #2 WR and play less than 2/3rd of the snaps because the FA year might be bad is like drafting Kenny Pickett in the 1st round because the QB class is bad.
Bad decisions are still bad decisions, regardless of the situation.

Not surprised, it happens every year. Here’s what I mean. Sites post their top 50 or 100 free agents list? Bengals fan drools over possibility of signing some off this list. As tag deadline nears some of these guys get tagged.
Said bengals fan also cites list of teams that are over the cap or have so little cap space they can’t sign their own guys. We can swoop in and get them. Said teams work voodoo magic to create space, sign their guys.
Free agency hits. First day is full players “setting the market” while bengals tend to sit back. We justify this by saying I can’t believe those guys got paid that much. This board collectively holds its breath until something, anything is done.
Don’t even get me started on mock draft season and draft weekend.

I kind of see it the opposite. Signing some scrub to be the #2 out of desperation because you let Tee walk would feel more like a - take what we can get- Pickett type move to me.

I'm very surprised that Osa (who has never gotten more than 5 sacks in a season)is getting franchise level money(especially considering it's a deep DT draft this year) and a guard is going to get franchise OT level money.
FYI I think both are deserving of those contracts I'm just suprised that the NFL sees it that way.
With the recent cap spike teams are keeping their very good/slightly great players more often now than before. Which is why it makes sense to keep Tee because you are not going to get equal value for him in free agency.

Lets say I made a thread saying we should sign the Steeler's #2 WR. I said the last two years has had 650 yards and 900 yards and missed a ton of time each year with injuries, injuries that have plagued him his entire career. Then I say we should give him $28m/yr. There's not a single person on this board who would support that move.
It's only once we put on some deeply orange tinted fan glasses that suddenly the name Higgins and the Bengals uniform he wore, that folks judgement gets tainted.

If there’s one thing I’m known for it’s being a Bengal homer.

NO..regardless of the financial profestations and the word salads regarding such ..NO..furthermore higgins misses 5-6 games a year and exits early in numreous other games..again..if this team cant find a number 2-3 receiver that can run a route and catch a football..than our bengals dont belong in superbowl discussion

I guess we should be hearing something today or tomorrow one way or another on the plans for Higgins, right?

Last time i peeked, you had 3 full pages (20 posts per page) that dealt directly to Tee Higgins (specifically named--about 95-98%--alluded to 2-4%), with about 1% of your posts being about anything at all but Tee Higgins. And that's just where i stopped. That's 60-80 straight posts about 1 player, over and over again.
All i'm saying is, everyone knows your stance on Tee Higgins. You've been beating a dead horse and repeating yourself over and over and over again. What's the use in yet another post about Tee Higgins?
Expand your horizons bud! Make a few posts about something other than Tee Higgins! If you won't do it for God and country, do it for us poor, battered posters.
Feliz cumpleanos and may the force be with you. :)

If they are going to tag him then yes because the deadline to tag players is 4PM Eastern tomorrow. After that if he is not tagged or they use the non-exclusive tag again other teams can contact his agent starting March 10th when the legal tampering begins. Then official free agency starts March 12th as well as the trading period. But as I've said before I don't think any teams will try to sign him if he's on the non-exclusive tag because the price for both the contract and losing two 1st round picks is more than I think most teams will want to pay.

I view Higgin's value (trade or contract) as that of AJ Green in his prime. Higgins played 16, 20 and 19 games his first three years. Injury issues coincided with contract squabbles and tag - which I feel are related.
We picked an AJ Green clone in the second round. Which is a major coup and due to a deep receiver class in 2020.
So, my thoughts are either pay him his value or ensure we get fair trade value - a first rounder.

Sure looking like the 49ers run is over.

Like letting Bates go because he's expensive, signing Nick Scott, cutting him after 1 year, and signing Geno Stone...who was below average last year.

Guess we forget we drafted Higgins knowing AJ was probably gone and Higgins had a successful rookie year, now we have Chase, why can't we try the same thing, draft Higgins replacement use the savings to fill couple holes.

WR A:
Year 1, he played every game.
Year 2, he played 14 games.
Year 3, he played every game.
Year 4, he played 12 games.
Year 5, he played 12 games.
WR B:
Year 1, he played every game.
Year 2, he played 12 games.
Year 3, he played every game.
Year 4, he played every game.
After 2 years, it would have looked like WR A was more durable. I don't know that some injuries predict future ones.
