Bengals re-sign Mike Gesicki

Yeah, he knows, all we hear about is "his guys" and we know he won't throw anyone under the bus because he is all class.

He would never specifically call out the poor Guard play and poor Defense of his own team, just not the way he is.

We just cannot have Volson starting again and we have a huge hole at RG right now.

Cody Ford needs to be brought back as depth but he is no starter.

Also wouldn't surprise me if Trey is back after looking for a trade, but we still have a hole at DT and End anyways with Rankins and Sam gone.

I don't think there's any logical reason to cut him right now.

He's super reliable looks like he's only missed 1 game in his entire 7 year career.  Remember he's essentially a TE/3WR.  I'm not sure how the deal is structured but I think it's going to be team friendly with most of the deal locked up in year 1.

Welcome back and WHO DEY!

Some people would complain if it was raining $10 notes. They’d whinge it wasn’t $20’s.

I like the move, he’s a decent player and gives some continuity at TE for a change.

The Eagles game solidified his value to the Bengals, in my view. Their two-high chokes all routes. Best way to open the field is to split their safeties with a TE.

Most receiving yards by a TE against them last year was Gesicki.

Welcome back!!!

I like Gesicki but don’t like the deal. This $8M/year could go to finish the Chase, tee, or Hendrickson deal.

The cap hot will not be 8 million. It willl be 5 million tops in 2025 is my guess.

Overpaid him.

They managed to avoid overpaying Uzomah (who I just realized I guess is getting a SB ring now), they managed to avoid overpaying Hurst. Well done, don't overpay mediocre TEs who are being propped up by Burrow throwing the ball a ton (I mean, career freaking practice squad scrub Tanner Hudson at the age of 29 with 199 career receiving yards had over 350 yards with Burrow). Then they go and overpay Gesicki when he doesn't even block.

I was really hoping for them to finally get a younger more talented solution at TE.

Gesicki knows the offense is familiar with JoeyB, I like this signing!! TE is not a need this draft for us and I'm betting it will be a cap friendly deal. We still have Pratt and Moss on the roster who can be cut to make this seem like a wash. I'm still saying we go hard after an Offensive guard on day 1 of FA, only because we cut bait on Cappa so early

Care to name what younger and more talented TEs you are referring to?

He was the top FA TE on the market he was gonna get PAID. And who says we still don't draft one? Because we will i'm pretty sure and If i was to guess the money in front loaded in the first 2 years so they can cut him in season 3 and come out good on it.

There's a couple different guys who are rumored to be on the trade market. Plus a whole group of guys in this thing called the Draft.

Sure just seems like we saw our offense be great, and our defense be shit, and this offseason we said "Alright, now lets make our offense the exact same but twice as expensive, and make our defense worse. THAT'LL solve our issues! Now we won't lose 33-38, we'll lose 33-52!"

Well yeah sure drafting a TE would be a younger player and possibly more talented.  But that hasn't been ruled out since the draft has not happened yet.   Tongue

True, but I am pretty confident that if they do draft a TE this year it certainly won't be a Day 1 or 2 pick now after this deal, nor probably even a 4th rounder since they only have 6 picks.

Has nothing to do with cap.

Likely got a 10 million signing bonus and 2 million base salary for 2025. Bengals could choose to assign 3 million of bonus towards 2025 cap. That makes cap hit in 2025 only 5 milliion.

Call me crazy, but have a hunch is Warren drops to our pick, we strongly consider him.

I hear you. I just think if we are in a win now mode, then keeping the one area that is the strength of this Team together makes most sense as the first step. I don't feel good about using our first or second rounder for Colston or Taylor, given our defensive needs.

The second step would be to improve the other side of the ball. I understand that allowing Trey to seek a trade goes contrary to that second step, but it is too early to see how that plays out.

On Defense, we need DT, Edge, LB, Safety, and possibly a CB. Lets see what FA and the draft brings.

As of today, we can only re-sign our own guys. And I don't think there are many guys on our D that we would want re-signed. Hill as veteran presence on D-Line, maybe Ossai, and maybe ADG - but that is it.

It's much higher than you think......that way in year 3 they can get out of it and not owe much of anything........that's how they do business did you forget??

When you have the highest paid QB, highest paid WR, highest paid WR2, a DE who needs to get paid, need 2 OG, 1 more DE and DT, need CB1….can we really afford a TE? Should we afford a TE? We don’t know the structure so you cant say it’s a $5m cap hit. Even if it is, we have much bigger needs. This scares me that they don’t think they’ll be able to sign all big 3.

I don't see how we go any other direction but defense with the first two picks. Not even a G.

But stranger things have happened before.
