Trey Hendrickson Update
Here comes the 'captain obvious' portion of our show...which really shouldn't need to be pointed out, unless you back somone(something) without seeing the clearly obvious salient point.

Even if he doesn't see all the money, the Steelers were able to get Watt to sign on the bottom line without all the drama and cheap bullshit you see from other organizations and they did it for a guy that's 2 months older than Trey and for a price that tops all that came before him.

Thoughts?

They complain if we sign them late, them cry when we sign them early. It is kind of comical watching them spin in circles.

Fans don't complain when the FO cancels a contract early when the players level of play drops to me it seems only fair to back a player when his level of play dictates a raise.

To me the FO struggles on all the important things evaluating the talent they have, smartly moving money around to accommodate additions when needed and most importantly communicating and keeping players happy.

So yes if a players talent dictates he should be paid and he's too valuable to lose than pay him early. If said player maintains that level of play and starts to become unhappy evaluate and pay him again. The earlier the better because existing years give you more flexibility within the cap.
This team has very good talent and a chance just with Burrow and Chase but we have a bottom of the league front office. Nobody is expecting them to be the Eagles just dont be a hindrance to the team.

My thoughts are that we’re now entering year 6 of the Burrow era and we’ve still yet to have a single, positive, drama free offseason. It’s either been injuries - which you could argue wasn’t really the team’s fault - but the perpetual state of he OL certainly played some part in a couple of them, or it’s been disgruntled star players upset over contract disputes (Bates, Tee, Chase, Trey). It’s beyond exhausting.

No doubt Steelers who will start a 41 year old QB who turns 42 in December did a nice job getting Watt signed. My thoughts are he was signed on July 17 so to say no drama is not the entire truth. They also just signed their starting QB recently which was also drama.

Let's see if the Bengals sign Trey in the coming weeks or not. The drama created is by fans. The Bengals FO looks at it as a business decision. I am not sure how many 100 million contracts you have given out, but it is a ton of money. They have a value assigned to him, my guess is they will stay within 15% of the value. If Trey wants more, he may be sitting out 2025 which many would not blame him. However, if Trey puts his business hate on, losing 16 million + millions in fines may not be a smart business decision for him long term because Bengals own his rights for nect 3 years if they so desire.

I want him signed, but the door swings both ways, he is under contract in 2025 and took a nice signing bonus in 2022 to extend his deal. I think he deserves an extension, but it is not my money.

As for Watt, time will tell if father time or injury catched up to him the next 4 years and especially the next 3 years. Will he play at a level to earn that money is yet TBD, he may or he may blow out his knee week 1 and the contract be a D. Watson deal in the end. One thing I do see, he has a lot of tread on the tires. His brother was great also until he wasn't his last couple of years.

JJ was 33 when he retired and look it up, he went from great to average very quickly.

So jury still out on if Steeler's signing TJ to a 3 year extension was a great, good or bad move.

Let's revist at end of 2026 season for a true evaluation of his price and production.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

We could do that...and i have no doubt we eventually will, but you can't compare the drama between what's happened with Trey to the "drama" that happened with Watt. They're not remotely close.

They're like, as close as the Sun is to Proxima Centauri.

Re: JJ Watt. I did a breakdown of how productive the better EDs were, late in their careers, to your average ED, who typically "falls off a cliff" earlier in their career--somewhere earlier in this thread. Trey is closer to your elite ED than he is to your average ED. Run game schmun game. If he's on my team, i want him to get the QB, the same way i'd want other top rushers to. The other 10 guys can tackle the ball carriers.

Sometimes, you have to ask yourself where the drama originated.

Did the Bengals create it, or did Trey and dramatic fans create it.
