As others have said, let him complete his scheduled visits and then the negotiation will begin.

We needed to do more at guard this offseason and we literally find problems with every guard we don't sign. People said the same thing about Will Hernandez after he reported he was healthy until he signed a week later back with the Cardinals. So people say "Why isn't Risner signed yet with any other team" okay true its a question and he does generally sign late.

But we are past the worries he appears to be cheaper and plays well in the area we need most. So when the Bengals bring him in people get excited myself included that think the Bengals see the issue that anyone being honest can see and are going to address it. Only for them to slow play it and risk losing the player. We dont have other options and perhaps hes trying to drive the price up. What does that look like when you played last year for 2.41 million?

If Risner is leaving without a deal to take other visits, then those visits were planned prior to meeting with the Bengals.  Any smart person is going to look at all the options available before deciding.  This isn't like the first wave of FA where if you leave to speak to other teams, an offer may dry up.  If teams are coming to Risner at this point after two weeks of preseason, it's because they've evaluated their talent and/or have injuries and he's the best option available.

Yeah, I'm sure if they offered him 3 years/$30 mil, he'd jump on it, but he's not worth that.  And for him, if there's a guaranteed starting job available, he needs to take it, because his value will severely depreciate if he takes a backup role.

You can't force someone to not leave town.  I don't know where people get this "Don't let him leave", idea from.  Fant left town, and guess what?  He weighed all his options and decided we were the best fit.  And if Risner does the same, then all this hand wringing will be for nothing.

The Steelers starting lg has missed most of camp with a back injury. If/when he is healthy, he will start. So again, if he wants to start he comes here

All 3 teams have legit playoff hopes up but obviously Cincinnati has the best QB.

It’s also the best possible situation for Risner to succeed. He is better at pass protection than run blocking. Seattle and Pittsburgh will Be near the top of the league in rushing attempts, due to the schemes those teams will deploy.

Like i said in an earlier post, I hope i'm wrong. I don't get my hopes up with this FO because i've seen this play out with disappointment.

And we've literally just seen this same situation work to our favor recently with Noah Fant.

This has to be exhausting for you.

Yep, I agree, but i saw Fant as more of a Luxury signing that was very nice, but we would've been fine at TE if he went elsewhere. Risner is HUGE need and would be a huge loss if he signs elsewhere.

I read couple blogs that mentioned one reason he had not signed is what he thinks his worth is and it doesn't surprise me that he's still shopping around to see what he can get for other teams. And we really have no clue.

You are most likely 100% correct.  The thing that I hope he considers is the fact that it is this late in the off season and he is not signed.

Fant is our best all-around TE and is better than Sample & Grandy by a mile. Our TE room before him was dominated by WR types (Gesicki/Hudson) or lumbering blockers who are zero threat receiving (Sample/Grandy). Our TE personnel gave away the play.

I also think the griping about Patrick has become hyperbolic. He's had 2 bad snaps and a penalty in 2 games. One bad snap last game (he & Mims got split,). OBJ got beat for a sack last game, too. Karras had a hold.

Our G need is more about depth and a bump in pass pro. Patrick is a better run blocker than Risner.

I know I'm in the minority on Patrick.

There are usually 2 reasons guys are not signed this late:

1) No one wants them.
2) No one wants them at the price the player thinks they are worth. So he holds out hoping for a desperate team or injuries to rearctheir heads in camp, or to get multiple teams interested to drive the price up.

Risner is #2. He can clearly still play.

He is like Trey in age, but Risner has the leverage and can use other teams to drive up his value. I would do the same thing, get teams into a bididing war to get the best deal. I maybe wrong, butI think if a team offers him a 2 year deal with some guaranteed money in year 2 he would sign if the money is fair.

Yes, dammit, yes! Good god, all the apologists for this subpar FO. Joe is worth protecting. Patrick ain’t the answer (I suspect an injury is forthcoming). This FO is as maneuverable and flexible as a WWI battleship…

Yeah i agree. Im still trying to give the FO the benefit of doubt. But he signed for 2.41mil last year. I know we signed Patrick for 2.1 and just saw Fant was 2.75mil. I know we tried to lower ball him.

Good points, I often catch myself saying don't let him leave town myself, but it is not reality. Hopefully it goes like Fant and Risner signs
with us. I think he will if it was a decent offer, he wanted to come here early this Offseason and block for Burrow.

You need to look at Joe Goodberry's snap by snap break down of PS GM1.  Patrick looked awful play after play.  He was pushed back, pushed around, three separate times he was faked by a DL that went around him like he was standing still.  Go watch that video.  He literally looked horrid on all but 1-2 plays.

Who cares about Game 1? Patrick had just returned to camp after being dinged up. Game 2 is the more relevant data.
