RE: JoeyB willing to restructure - RegularGuy22 - 02-08-2025 SB and 2 AFC Championship game appearances mean nothing, 0, zilch. They can't win the big one. It's like finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the Indy 500 nobody remembers or cares. The KC Refs will probably win their 3rd straight, the Steelers are 6 of 8 in the SB and the Pats are 6 of 11 in SB's. This is what winning looks like not the Bengals failures. 49ers and Cowboys have each won 5 rings. Tee Higgins won't be the difference maker. It's not any form of sacrifice or compromise at all. It's not like he's taking a paycut or anything, so it's not news. How do you and others who claim who won't take a pay cut know definitively that is true? Players who make far less than JB have taken pay cuts. I have no idea if JB will take a pay cut if he restructures his contract, no one does until it is done. Then, the Bengals will get 0% from him, as like Carson Palmer, he'll force his way out. The model was made for an escape plan years ago, please try to pay attention there, little friend. I wonder how far this diagnosis will move Tee down the list of available FAs for 2025 RE: JoeyB willing to restructure - TheLeonardLeap - 02-08-2025 (02-08-2025, 01:05 PM)Luvnit2 Wrote: How do you and others who claim who won't take a pay cut know definitively that is true? Who are these players? Were they actively being threatened by being cut or traded? I know he won't take a pay cut because he had a chance to take less not even 1.5 years ago and instead chose to be the highest paid player in NFL history. I don't blame him for it, I have always been a vocal supporter of players getting paid what they can while they can, but I don't want to then hear not even two year later that he's going to simultaneously buy a Batmobile and take a paycut right when his massive contract money is actually going to start coming in. It's a whole lot easier to not ask for as much initially than it is to get the money and then give it back. This seems a whole lot like two offseasons ago when people were absolutely certain that blue collar Ohio boy Burrow was going to give a hometown discount and sign for pennies on the dollar so we could extend both Chase and Tee, and that they were going to follow suit because being together meant more to them than getting paid the most they could. Tried to warn people they were being absurd, that it's a business and these players often only get one real shot at a huge payday in the NFL and then they have fifty-sixty years post-NFL..... Then he got paid and NFL record $55m/yr and the second highest guarantee at signing in NFL history and Chase is wanting to be paid as the highest non-QB in NFL history. Welcome to reality. I was never in the camp JB should give the team a discount. True, JB's motivation would be different from others. His motivation would be to help the team sign Tee and Chase to help him win and break records. He may not take less, but again we won't know HOW HE PLANS TO RESTRUCTURE UNTIL HE DOES IT. Joe got a whopping over 111 million in cash in 2023 and 2024. Would you say based on his new earned money in last 2 years, maybe Joe is not as motivated by money since he is filthy rich now? Is it possible? We have seen Mahomes and Brady help their team manage the cap to have a shot at winning it all. Why not Joe? The contract he signed was signed at a time when Bengals had no cap issues. He also has already been paid a boatload of cash for that deal in years 1 and 2. https://www.spotrac.com/news/_/id/2013/breaking-down-joe-burrows-275m-extension The Cash Flow Burrow scores a $40M pay raise this year, north of $45.5M for the 2023 season, but he’ll secure a whopping $65.7M in 2024, bringing his 2-year total over $111M. https://www.businessinsider.com/tom-brady-contract-discounts-patriots-bargain-2018-7 Tom Brady sacrificed at least $60 million in his career helping the Patriots build Super Bowl-winning rosters https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patrick-mahomes-explains-why-hes-stealing-tom-bradys-contract-philosophy-when-doing-deals-with-the-chiefs/ Patrick Mahomes explains why he's stealing Tom Brady's contract philosophy when doing deals with the Chiefs The two-time MVP is putting winning over money RE: JoeyB willing to restructure - M.W. - 02-08-2025 (02-06-2025, 04:26 PM)WeezyBengal Wrote: 221 million in cap SPACE. The total cap is projected to be around 300 million (excluding any rollover). This is the part that is so hard to understand about the Bengals front office. The sooner you get the deals done. the less you spend. It seems like there is a new highest paid WR, QB, DE, CB nearly every year. This is instant inflation. It is great wanting to keep this offense together, but if the defense isn't addressed (more than extending Trey) we will likely miss the playoffs again this season. Let's take Trey, we gave him a fair contract, but then with 2 years remaining, he wanted a raise. Now 1 year remaining and he wants a raise. If a player outplays his contract, they may demand a raise so in the end what is gained by the team? Save dollars early and then pay later or not pay up and have a disgruntled star. Players are always going to want more, even if Ja’Marr sign the biggest WR contract in history this year, after 3 more years of this level production and the rise in the salary cap he’s going to want more. Relatively short term careers where they put their bodies and future health on the line so they deserve to be well paid. But when is enough enough? Never mostly I suspect. Smith is a shock sports journalist. He says things to start debate/arguments. There is no reason for Burrow to ask for a trade. Bengals paid him extremely well (he deserved it) and seem to value his opinion. I have never seen Joe mention a trade either. Just because he lacks integrity and refused to honor a contract does not mean other should to make himself look better. How did the trade work out for CP? How many Super Bowls did he get to? Win? CP is a loser. |
