Chase not Practicing
(09-03-2024, 09:35 PM)Joelist Wrote: Interestingly, every link saying the escrow rule isn't required leads back to the same PFT article. It's from Florio who is not exactly a paragon of honesty. So, assumi9ng this is a real rule it is likely a league rule. Signing bonuses would count against it so the rule would be that the guarantee upon signing that has to be escrowed is the total minus any lump sum payments like signing bonuses. Remember Burrows deal had guarantees that phased in over time - this cut down the amount needed up front.

That's why I am assuming the holdup is the structure of the guarantees. Remember the Bengals Operating Income is about 140 million a year - which includes the revenue sharing. So they have to fit everything into the cash they have stacked up, some of which they already used in Free Agency.

The escrow rule is a real rule.  Like I said, it is a rule created by the owners.  That said, the wording in the CBA, which is what we get to see, in the section on Funding of Deferred and Guaranteed Contracts on page 178 states the following:  "The NFL MAY require that by a prescribed date, each club must deposit into a segregated account.....

The Browns refused to answer requests from multiple sources, not just Florio, when they were asked if an escrow deposit was made, and if so, when was it made.  Im not sure if the Browns eventually provided a direct response.  But their lack of communication led to the increased attention to the specific wording of the rule.

Also, like I said, it is not just the signing bonus that is not required, but also any payments in the 1st year of the contract.

Also, there is a $15,000,000 deductible that doesnt have to be paid.

"So they have to fit everything into the cash they have stacked up, some of which they already used in Free Agency."

I seriously doubt this is the case as the funding deadline is in March next year.

He’ll play
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

He is sitting out since he has not signed a new deal that was my point of why not practicing

Welp id imagine if he was gonna play this week he needs signed by today or at least practice today

Lol what if we lose against the Pats. Maybe he has to sit so the game can be close...lol.

The ideal story for him is for Burrow to struggle against the pats, everyone in the media talks about burrow is not healthy, he is not the same - then ja'marr signs and goes for 250 against chiefs and burrow throws for 400.

He sat for an entire year at LSU. Chase can be competitive and want to win, but those aren't more important than himself.

The thing that makes this shit worse is we have a "healthy" Burrow at QB, as far as we know. If it was basically any other QB, Chase can sit all he wants, we weren't going to win the superbowl anyway lol. Browning didn't look that bad last year, he did look like a good backup. Our team is not built for a backup QB to win the SB.

So in an indirect way Burrow is responsible for Chase doing this, he loses power if we had an average QB like most teams do lol. Mike Brown would play that game, and he still may!

The line has moved 1.5 points in Pats direction. Ive been optimistic until now. Joe Burrow or Pat Mahomes being hurt would move the line 3.5 points. A playmaker like Chase not playing would move the line 1.5 points which is what it currently is at Bengals - 7.5

1)no team is "built for a backup to win"..although once in a blue moon it happens 2) there is no "shit"...we have a great player that wants paid..I am sure it will get done ..just maybe not at the speed everyone wants 3) we are more than capable of being a very good team even without chase

The season starts Sunday. Today is Wednesday. This could have been addressed well before now. I don’t think being a little irritated now makes us impatient.

I don't care about #3. I want to win a superbowl. What fan is happy with something else? Please, lol. Erase that sentence. We've been "a very good team", who cares. I remember when Dalton took us to 5 straight playoff appearances, good teams indeed.

The point is if Burrow wasn't our QB, Chase wouldn't be sitting out right now, he knows he is key to our success. Being key to a team making the playoffs or not, eh, not as much power. He is key to winning a SB.

Imagine this team was 2-15 the last 2 years, Chase has reduced power to sit out, his impact would be null other than maybe get a few more ticket sales! Lol.

The media commentary is spot on, the way the Bengals do business sometimes still makes you wonder if winning is their top priority.

The Blackburns were on their annual 6 month vacation to Europe.

Only a few weeks to squeeze in contract negotiations. Ever wonder why guys aren't signed during the summer ever? It's because the FO is literally not even working.

"it'll be Sunday for me". The blind denial around here always amazes me...

Today is the day. We are knee deep into week 1 and the only other hold out with no offseason work is Reddick and no one believes if he shows up tomorrow he'll play Sunday. It isn't realistic, and with the high injury risk none of us should want Chase to play Sunday. None of us.

It's just too late for week 1, if he doesn't practice today.

Patrick Surtain just agreed to deal. Another first Rd pick from the 21 draft class has signed his extension.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!
