Coaches changed. When we started making the playoffs...a bunch of our coaches got poached...

And, we lost a bunch of guys in free agency. I won't list them all, but it was a bunch of core guys. Even guys like Reggie Nelson hurt bad losing. You can probably lose 2-3 guys, but not that many.

I feel like they started to try to get cute in the draft too. Drafting an injured Ced. Drafting Ross that high. Moves like that were curious.

BPA never really worked for the Bengals.

They needed a DT to replace Tank Johnson leaving: Geno Atkins
They needed a WR to replace Chad Johnson trade: AJ Green
They needed a QB to replace Carson Palmer trade: Andy Dalton
They needed a DE to replace Antwan Odom injury: Carlos Dunlap
They needed a TE to replace Ben Utecht concussion: Jermaine Gresham
Even when Marvin Jones left in FA, they had to draft a WR and got Tyler Boyd.

Meanwhile BPA....
Brought them Cedric Ogbuehi and Jake Fisher while they had Andrew Whitworth.
Brought them Shawn Williams while they had Reggie Nelson.
Brought them Margus Hunt and Will Clarke while they had Carlos Dunlap.
Brought them Devon Still and Brandon Thompson while they had Atkins and Peko.
Brought them Kirkpatrick and Dennard, neither of whom started more than 3 games in a year until their FOURTH years despite being 1st round picks.

I look at their history, and their success came when they were backed into picks, rather than BPA.

Or maybe they just don't want to play and easier to be injured?

Pretty much most of Marvin's aging guys, time to clean the roster.

He hasn't played good lately , the team will obviously pick up up his 5th year option it will be interesting to see if they extend him when the time comes. I always viewed Lawson as a good pass rush specialist versus being a building block. Lawson can't hold up versus the run I need a building block to be able to be a full time player.

With Austin and Anarumo as the DCs over the past two years, no one on defense is playing like a star.

I'm more inclined to look at the scheme/coaching than at player ability at this point.
