Hobson has a depressing voice by nature I think

Hobspin is the kind of guy you want on your team. Going out there and saying the darndest stuff with a grin on his face. But I have a hard time buying most of what he says unless it's a piece about someone's personal history/life. He does a good job on those. Just about anything else I tend to ignore.

The more I hear him talk, the more I think he just legitimately doesn't understand the cap...like at all.

We don't even have the minimum 51 players under contract at this time.

We have roster spots filled by air right now that will cost money to fill.

Listening to the podcast I think Hobson was not counting the release of Waynes and Hopkins like Liscow was.

But I still think Hobson is right on that point.  Even if we have $80 million in cash to spend this year we are not going to get more than one player with a $20+ million signing bonus.  If you give 2 guys $20+ million then you only have $40 million to replace 6 of these 8 losses.

Like I said, I am just assuming that they are planning for certain players to not make the roster, and thus are just temporarily occupying cap.

If Ogunjobi is retained over BJ Hill, it better be because 1) Hill decided to go elsewhere in FA, and 2) Ogunjobi was willing to sign for $8 mill or less.

How long has he been the Bengals writer?
I know he's been since at least 2006, which is when I started going to Bengals.com.

All good stuff, and appreciated (and WVU Homer).  Although I have a math brain, I have never taken the time to analyze the contracts, the cap, etc.  There are a handful of experts that I rely on for that information.  I am more of a draft and FA nerd that loves diving in to film, PFF, etc. on potential additions.

It is relieving to think that Burrow's elevated cap hit won't really hit for several years.  This is SUCH a fun time ADDING FA and considering (maybe we are and not the Bengal's Brass, but I digress) trading picks for players.  

Which, BTW, I'm hearing a 3rd rounder for La'el Collins?  Yes, please!
