The horde of people that constantly overhype the Golden Binns winners year after year will realize that these guys haven't panned out for well over a decade and maybe they need to look at how they're evaluating WR's.

With the news of Hopkins to the chiefs, do we really not think we could get Boyd back for peanuts? I understand the FO mindset of seeing if younger players develop. That said, it’s been 7 games. It’s ok to be wrong, and in this case… the opportunity cost is not big. Hell, they could be in a better spot, financially, than if they had resigned him (to a likely larger deal than he got).
At $141,000/game, his rest of season salary is $1.5m. The bengals could easily absorb that. This would take care of WR3, in the short term. I’d also look around for a CB and potentially RB.

He has posted 40+ yards in a game once. And he needed 7 targets to get there. Like, I get rooting for draft picks to succeed and he seems like a great kid. But there's nothing he's shown that indicates he can handle the WR3 role.

To me, I'd eyeball Cooper Kupp. The Rams are reportedly willing to pick up a chunk of his salary if he's traded and he has 2 years left on his contract after this one. That would make losing Tee a lot less of a dire proposition, in addition to being a massive upgrade this year.

As of now, I don't think that he would produce much as a starter. He does well at defeating the initial block from the tackle, but looks like he's got sand in his boots when pursuing QBs, and get knocked off line easily when he should have a straight shot at the QB. Murphy has been a huge dissopintment for me this season. If they whiff on both the Dax and Murphy picks...then BIG yikes. The boys are just talkin' ball, babyyyy

But I still think 30 mil should be only for Chase, Tee should still be around 25-28 mil at the most IMO. And I have really liked what I have seen of Tee this season, but he hasn't gotten over 100 yards in a game yet pretty sure. But with the way Tee is playing I would extend him for under 30 mil and extend Trey and BJ on D as well. Have to pay some of these guys and these guys have been good to damn good in Trey.

It's a fair point, but also consider that, no disrespect to Tee, Kupp has been a lot more productive than Higgins. Either way, we're looking at shelling out big money for Tee or another WR2 or basically being "WR or bust" in the 1st next year, neither of which is a great option. Trading for Kupp also gives us the advantage of not having to escrow the vast bulk of the guaranteed money for a player of his caliber. And, you've got the rest of the year of one of the most frightening WR trios ever assembled. Aggressive? Certainly. All in? Definitely. But are we that concerned about a cap crunch next year if we win a Lombardi this year?

Most here said Boyd is washed, some claimed it was our “deepest and best” position group. In reality, it was top heavy with one of the guys very big injury concerns, and then unproven across the board. This was a huge and inexpensive hole that the bengals didn’t address. What a colossal failure. Having a TJ Housh, or Boyd type player that can get the 7/70 stat line, most likely results in different play calls on 3rd/4th and 2. We have guys who can’t separate, outside of Chase, so burrow needs to wait longer and gets blown up. What burrow did last night was magical, but there is no quick outlet for burrow. |
