I am not a fan of NFL players refusing to practice or play because they want a new contract. In my opinion, they should inform him he will be fined the maximum which is $50,000 a day until he starts practicing assuming he passed a physical.


I have said it over the years, the Bengals are one of the most loyal teams honoring contracts. But players who agreed to a contract should honor it. If Chase would have flamed out, Bengals would still be paying him.

I hope they work it out, but if not fine him the $50,000 a day to recoup money he frankly is not earning by sitting out.

It's in the better in interest for the Bengals to sign him now than wait a year and it's in better interest for Chase to sign next offseason. I'm kinda of confused by this whole situation to be honest.

I think you're neglecting to consider the future earning potential of that 3rd contract. He get's his deal done this year, and he can be up for a new deal at 28. The longer he waits, the less lucrative that 3rd contract might be. 

28 vs. 29 might seem like no big deal, but the way teams handle third contracts and player age, it's not insignificant. 

I don't see any WRs next year getting more money than Jefferson, CeeDee, Hill, got this off-season, so the market is pretty much set. There isn't anyone that's going to increase the market, so he wants his deal ASAP because that means he can get to his 3rd contract sooner.

Garrett Wilson can start negotiating a new contract after this year and could lift the market depending on how the cap increases. The other thing is the floor starts rising each year. As cap goes up worse players make more money. We saw it a few years ago when the Jags paid Christian Kirk a lot of money in FA. When those deals start getting close to the deals the top guys are after it pushes what they want as they don't want to be grouped with that class of player.

It’s getting harder and harder to watch professional sports. These guys sign contracts. And then when someone is due and they reset the market all of the others hold out and want to redo their deal. I think these teams need to start looking into holding these guys accountable. Put stipulations in their contracts that if they hold out for new deals while under a current deal they forfeit so much per day. This has got to stop.

It doesn't really effect the product on the field. When the dust settles, most if not all of these guys end up playing week 1. The only time I can remember when this didnt happen recently is with Chris Jones.

He is in the best shape of his life, I saw a vid of him working out before Training Camp. But I am getting a touch concerned now that he 
isn't at practice. I didn't mind as much when he was helping the young WR's and letting them get in sync with Burrow, but now...

Great point. Get it done then, it is in everybody's best interest honestly. I think he is going to have the best season of any WR this season.

Then don't watch. It is a choice. I stopped watching MLB because of no salary cap & steroids & baseball was my favorite sport.

Great point. Get it done then, it is in everybody's best interest honestly. I think he is going to have the best season of any WR this season.

Doesn't matter how he looked it's about football shape and getting reps. A week, maybe 2 he's okay but any longer he's playing catchup especially with a new OC and new wrinkles.

I agree that it's hard to even think about all these players holding out for more money and whatever, but you also have to think about it from their perspective:

-they're playing a violent game. One hit or even just landing wrong could end their career.
-in most cases, this money has to last them the rest of their lives.
-after taxes, agent fees, and other fees and expenses, the they only take home 40 to 50% of what they make.
-the owners make a lot of money off of them.

There's other variables but I'm just saying that, when you have owners that are that rich and are likely to get even richer after Chase helped them to a Super Bowl, AFC Championship game, and likely a lot more accomplishments like that, I can understand Chase wanting his piece of the pie.

I say all this in thinking that Chase isn't dramatic and won't pull AB or Ocho-like antics, but we'll see.

Correct.  And the contract Chase signed allows him to get an extension this year.  He's well within his contract to try and negotiate and get that done.  It's in the team's best interest as well.

Would be ideal to sign him now to at least a 4 year deal which would really be 6 years (this last year plus the option year the Bengals picked up) and they could spread the money out over 6 years. But it's all going to be about the guaranteed money that might cause a hiccup with the Bengals.

Wouldn’t a new contract just be an extension to the two he has left?

Unless of course that is what’s holding the extension up, Chase wants a 3 year extension and the Bengals want to extend him 4. I don’t know how old Chase is so I don’t know.

4 years (added to the 2) would put him exactly where is Burrow's contract is/ends and obviously he loves playing with him.

I know he's not taking this into account, but think at how much more money he'll make off merchandise and things like television appearances once we win the city's first Super Bowl.
