Chase not Practicing
(08-25-2024, 05:10 PM)Brownshoe Wrote: Maybe they're going to announce a contract extension the same time as Burrows contract extension (during KCs season opener)

This is my guess

Hype the fans up before the game

Also waiting to do the deal next year doesn’t make any logical sense for the team or Chase. See no reason why this deal wouldn’t be done

Chase will be signed, nothing to worry about. Bates was never going to be and to be honest losing him wasn't even the issue - losing Vonn Bell was and Lou even said as much. Notice that with Stone and Bell back there the defense is like night and day? Tee will be off to another club after this season, fetching us a Third round comp unless they trade him beforehand. Burton likely will move into Tee's slot and we'll take another WR to keep the conveyor belt running.

What are Chase's current contract demands?

I would say we haven't really seen the defense yet. Also it seems like losing Bates was a big part of the reason because we brought in Stone as well. Not to be combative I just haven't really liked the Bengals approach regarding these situations.

Nearly 8 hours since the news broke and Schefter the lead reporter for ESPN has not tweeted a thing about Chase practising.

You want to talk about MSM picking their stories this is a clear as day example of that.

Genuine question as I don’t know but can’t the Bengals ban ESPN from press conferences and the locker room?

There’s a tabloid over here a gutter rag that has been banned from many clubs in England.

$40 million for 4 and $160 million
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I feel like this might be a slight overreaction.

Actually Bates wasn't a big reason; in fact he was not a good system fit here but a better one in Atlanta. Bell was the big loss as he was the one responsible for calling the alignments on the defense. Notice that both safeties they got (Bell and Stone) are football savvy and knowledgeable. And we saw it in preseason and camp - when they were in the big plays basically disappeared.

Last year even without Jessie Bates the Bengals were 5th in the NFL using cover 1. Over the last 4 years the Bengals have been at least top 3 in cover 1. Jessie Bates is the best post safety in the NFL it would be really hard to find a better scheme fit.

PS. Lou said losing BOTH safeties was a big part of the breakdown in communication.

In what way?

Tell me one positive that ESPN does reporting on the Bengals?

You’ve got Schefter who doesn’t report any positive stories about the Bengals.

You’ve got Mcafee and his boys the majority who are Steeler fans and constantly take shots.

Stephen A is a ***** idiot who’s kept around for his shit opinions that create interaction.

Mina Kimes is another who slags off the Bengals then cries or changes facts when she’s called out.

It’s a joke of a network.

Okay I'm gonna go with you saying he wasn't a big reason as a way to agree. He was probably half the reason as he was one of two safeties we let walk. Was Bell the bigger mistake? Maybe but only because we had already predetermined to let Bates walk. I certainly feel like he was a good fit here as well.

Time will tell on the defense this year. I'm optimistic but we still have to see it in a game or rather games that matter.

It's sports media. Where people give they're opinions. It's going to be biased at times or ilinformerd. I'd rather be underdog in the national eye. But on the Chase participating in practice story I just think it's not really much of a story nationally. I mean it has more of an impact on gambling fantasy sports side. Bengals fans care but it was reported. Not sure everyone needs to chime in.

I've read the same reports, but what we don't know (and that includes EVERYONE who says the Bengals should just "sign him") is that an extension that kicks in after his 5th year, or does Camp Chase want it to kick in this year? The point is no one knows, but everyone "knows" what the answer is.

I was thinking that's just how they work. Teams always pick up the 5th year before signing an extension on 1st rd players. Seems like the standard if it's not the rule that contract extension are added on to existing years.
I think we are all in the sign him camp as I'm sure a deal will get done at some point and time. But when you see the #s explained and with the fact that your keeping one of your best players happy I say do it now.

Sorry mate but that is such a small market take, we aren’t the underdogs anymore this isn’t 2021.

You’re talking about the number 1 WR on a side who’s 4th favourite to win the Super Bowl. It was of national interest when he was refusing to train but now he’s back crickets.

As for ESPN giving opinions no it’s a sports network it should deal in facts and not putting words in peoples mouths like Schefter did alluding to Chase wouldn’t play without a contract etc.

I just mean underdog in the sense of reporting. I think we do have an 11.5 over/under so if Burrow is healthy we are expected to be a contender. But on Chase his whole camp hold in has been pretty quiet. I feel like it was 2 weeks into training camp and my boss who's in like 8 fantasy leagues didn't know he wasn't practicing. I think Bengals beat writers were even slow on it as Zac had said Chase and Tee would alternate practice days but then Chase just never practiced. There's really just not that many facts until scores are posted dotted lines are signed or injury diagnosis are reported. They live in a world of speculation and opinions.

You're right, Fred. Might as well just shut down the thread and no one talk about it since none of us work for the Bengals FO or are Chase's agents where we would actually know any details. We'll, scratch that because I'm just speculating at that, too.

I mean, hell, by your rationale, let's not talk about anything we don't have 100% of the information on, right?

I never said we can't talk about it. I merely suggested it might be good practice to know what Chase is demanding before we assert the Bengals are to blame for not doing it.

But you do you
