Chase not Practicing

LOL. You're not "done" with Chase.

What Zac Taylor humiliated? I mean are we stretching that a bit? He cracked a joke at the beginning of answering questions. Didn't seem to hurt by it.

I think we may also be forgetting what T.O. was like as well. News conferences crying about not attacking his quarterback.

Because a poster said a page back that we have a generational QB and they should sign Chase and quit fooling around, something to that effect and my response is where are all the Lombardi's?

He couldn't "seem hurt", but coaches credibility is all they have and this was not ideal. Besides him saying he expected Chase to continue to practice and play week 1 was all over the net yesterday after Chase pulled out of practice.

In the world of social media, the news / what was trending wasn't Chase pulling out of practice, it was Zac being played for a fool.

You don't typically see a HC be so wrong so quick (less than 24 hours).

If they sign Chase to another deal, is it possible to put language into the contract that if he does a hold-out or hold-in for a new contact again during the length of the contract that he has to forfeit a pro-rated portion of the guaranteed money? Something so that this doesn't happen again two years from now after he's signed a monster contract and decides to not practice until he get's an even bigger contract.

At the end of the day, Ted Karras, the elder statesman on the roster has publicly supported Chase and said he's not causing any issues.  Sounds like a business as usual hardball negotiation.

I guess being a fan of a team poised for success is a bit intense for some fans. It's not Chase's fault that the market for top WRs went through the roof this year. If the fans want to be mad at anyone, they should focus on the Learners, for giving D Watson all of that guaranteed money 3 years ago. Like you said, it's just hardball negotiation.

When the drama was surrounding the Tee Higgins situation, many put the focus on the Bengal hating agent for the high contract demand. Now that the emphasis is on Jamarr Chase's situation, he's the one being painted as the evil diva. Does anyone not suspect that his agent has a hand in his actions?

I am proud to say my thoughts on the matter have never changed. Many on here:

Skips OTAs: That's great, Chase is in the best shape of his life, he doesn't need reps with Burrow, and gives the young kids more reps

Sits in Mini-Camp: Glad to hear it, Chase said he's just "listening to his body", he's there mentoring the young kids, and I blame Justin Jefferson and the Vikings

Sits in Training Camp: Well......you can't blame him, the Bengals should sign him, and I also blame CeeDee Lamb and the Cowboys

One week before regular Season: DAMN YOU BENGALS!!! You're a garbage franchise, why wasn't I born in Pittsburgh

bfine:

It's about his contract. He wants as much as he can get as soon as he can get. He's doing it for no one but JaMarr Chase

Peyton Manning and Drew Brees didn’t win a Lombardi until their 9th seasons respectively.

Anyway, the term “generational” is thrown around way too much. Burrow is not generational. What he is is a very, very good QB who transformed a franchise that hadn’t won a single playoff game in over three decades into a legitimate contender.

Well, the Bengals could but the NFLPA might not like it and if it's not allowed to be down by the CBA, the contract would probably become null and void.

Taking up for the player a bit you are forced into signing you're rookie contract. Saying he isn't honoring a contract he was forced to sign is different than if he signs a mega deal then wants to rip up contract after 2 years because he out performed contract

I suppose time and age makes me not overly invest in this Chase situation. I'm pushing 50 so I've see the Brown Family-Bengals way of business, past and present, and I know that Chase is making decisions that many professional athletes makes when it comes to contract negations. It is what it is.

Who Dey and I hope to see him playing week 1 because he's a fun player to watch and I want the Bengals to win.

Who should he be playing this game for if not Ja'Marr Chase?

He should go after the NFLPA that sold out rookies then. That selling out of the rookies got players other things in the collective bargaining and so he doesn't get to reap other benefits and just ignore contractual obligations. He signed the contract and should be held to it including being fined starting today and suspended so he loses game checks going forward if he doesn't perform per the contract. If he is suspended multiple times he won't accrue a season and he will be one more year away from getting to FA if he so chooses.

I'll be honest, it feels like a bunch of residual "Team Sewell" energy to me.  And his name has been invoked in this thread.

Of course, Sewell was made the highest paid T in the league with 2 years left on his deal despite not being generally considered the best.

No matter how good the guy is, there's still a large contingent of people who passionately did not want him on this team and can't seem to get over it.  But, apparently, he's supposed to take less than he believes he's worth for the benefit of those same fans who will just find something else to drag him for to justify their 3+ year old grudge.

But we all remember you beating up Trey Hendrickson when he was skipping OTA's just as much or more as you were Chase earlier this year.

Wait a minute...no ..I don't remember that.

It's not like he's been living on a pittance, either. His rookie deal was worth $30.8M, and is already guaranteed another $21.86M for the 5th year option. He should honor his contract with dignity and allow his agent continue to negotiate with the team.

The silliest thing of this entire saga when it is all said and done 31 other teams would have jumped at the opportunity to pay Chase what he eventually gets.

Mr. "I'm not selfish" turned into quite the diva.

Peak Karen.

There's nothing in his contract that says he MUST keep playing football. Just that if he keeps playing football he must play for the Bengals and not another team. It's not slavery.

The NFL largely doesn't go to courts but handles things through their grievance system. Good luck on trying to avoid the fact that NFL teams just cut >1,100 players that were under contract.

Also lets say you DO just do the most absurd shit and try to take a player to actual court for a lawsuit over this. No good player would EVER sign with you again, and everyone else in FA would demand more and more guaranteed to sign with you. Nobody wants to work for a PoS and the great players have too many choices to settle. You'll find yourself with a lot of 1st rounders Eli Manning...ing you.

No player would ever sign that. How do you prove it's a hold-in and not a soft tissue injury? If the player has the ability to have the last word that it's an injury and not a hold-in then it's pointless for it to exist in the contract. If a team has the last word that it's a hold-in and not an injury, then a player would be giving a team complete power to force them to play through injury or risk losing millions of dollars.

Hell, look at the Reds. They're constantly telling players they should come back and play despite them needing surgery or not fully healed yet and then the injury lingers or gets re-aggravated.

I wouldn't go as far to say he isn't generational just yet: He and Mahomes are clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the QBs in the league, like Manning and Brady were for 15ish years (then Rodgers subsequently, once Peyton fell off).

There are always 2, maybe 3 QBs that are indeed generational each year, year in, year out.

He smashed/set records in the NCAA and so far, a massive amount of his talent/work in college has translated to the NFL: that screams generational to me, he just needs to have 3-4 straight years of no injuries and we will see insane numbers.

'21 and '22 were damn near close.
