Chase not Practicing
Some of these comments on Mike Brown are pretty nasty. He is an 89 year old man that just happens to have real old school beliefs about money and football. Yes, it is no doubt he has held the team back for decades and didn't make the best decisions in some of them. But I remember back in 2014 or so when he supposedly told Marvin Lewis to find a place for Devon Still on the practice squad so his daughter could get 100% players NFL health care coverage when she was battling stage 4 stomach cancer at 4 years old. They cut him then resigned him to the PS.

Still himself later said he was very grateful to the Bengals and Mike Brown for this gesture. Her treatments and surgery was in excess of 1 million dollars then.

You’ve just said it yourself the GM doesn’t handle the contracts who else does this in the league?

You don’t know if we’ve had a great draft none of them have played yet, what everyone else can tell you for sure is his previous drafts have been at best average.

We very rarely trade in season when we have a chance of winning.

Like I said comes across as a nice guy but if we want to win not just one but multiple championships it’s time to come in to the 21st century.

He isn't the GM, MB is the GM and that is part of his title.

I'd say based on rumors flying and him practicing that the deal is done and he is going to play. I think it prob gets announced this evening.

He's been the Achilles heel of this team since he took over. We like to think he has relinquished his FO to Katie because it makes us hopeful. Then, shit like these contract negotiations pop up and he's right there front and center like a genital wart you just can't seem to get rid of.

I've been barking about this for years now.  These old men do not want to relinquish their power to draw from when they want to.  Katie would be the Owner of the team if anything had changed.  While I believe Katie and Duke likely construct most, if not all, of the contracts, she's gotta run the major shit by Daddy to get it off the ground.

MFB also put the muzzle on her as far as the media goes because he has the final say as long as he's breathing.  At 89, he's starting to get that "Al Davis" look to him now and it's just shocking that he's the only real voice for the Bengals.

Mike Brown on Chase contract (7/22/24):
“It’s not so likely that this is the good time to negotiate,” Brown said, via Ben Baby of ESPN. “The offseason is a better time for that and we’re going to try to keep focused on the football part."  “I’m not going to rule anything out, but I will tell you that the die has probably been cast.”

I think MFB makes Chase wait until next season.  If MB wants to keep his money, he will.  If he wants to throw it away (Antonio Bryant), he'll do that too.  Just my opinion though.

Perhaps Katie has threatened to smother him with a pillow and he's changed.  Let us hope.

I find it funny that people blame everything that goes wrong in this organization on Mike Brown when he has nothing to do with the Organization other than ride his Golf Cart to practice. The fact is our trio of GMs of the Blackburns and Duke are not that good at keeping a title team together. Thier excellent at building one though!

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

Have you seen some of the defensive talent on this team? Seems to me the only busts we repeatedly get are when we draft OL in the early rounds. So it appears we are using FA to fill those holes. TBH, early-round picks on OL is high risk for anyone.

How far do you want to go back mate?

Let’s just go from 2020 or my thumbs will get arthritis LOL

Burrow was a can’t miss, Higgins had a 1st round grade. Wilson was the shining light for the scouting team that draft.

2021- Chase was a generational talent, Carman was a disaster if it was the old man then Duke and the rest of the team should have gone batshit until he listened to sense. Ossai does anyone even know anymore? There is something there but this is a make or break year.

2022- It’s taken us a position change and 3 years to get our first round pick on to the field that hopefully turns him in to a star jury still out.

CTB is good and if he takes the next step could be great, Volson let’s see.
The rest were shit.

2023- Early days some promising signs.

So there we have it some swings and misses like you said it happens for every team, but the ones who do hit we constantly struggle to get re-signed or they walk.

I think this team could do better with a proper GM who handles everything that’s all I’m saying.

Seems to me that #5 pick in '22 (MacPherson) was a good one too, and they just signed him to an extension. And I'd feel much better about the d-line if Cam wasn't out for the year, another '22 selection. I agree with your overall point, but there have been more hits than you allowed in your analysis, mate.

So he sacrificed the teams betterment (Admittedly not much, but im making a petty point here) to do the right thing for a player....I'd be more impressed if he just used his fortune and offered to pay for all her medical treatment. He's never given a damn about bringing a championship to the fans of this season that foot the bill for his stadium. I've heard that Dave Lapham himself said Mike Brown told him that playoff success isn't high on his list because with it comes players who want to be paid. Yeah, F Mike Brown.

Isn't that the most ridiculous quote? For him to say negotiating happens in the offseason when the Bengals NEVER do extensions in the offseason. When they happen they always happen during training camp up to the first game. He's an idiot and a stain on this organization. A nepo baby who treats his money as if HE is the one who earned it.

I think nobody knows about internal discussions or the decision making process...The Bengals front office has never been that voiciferous  and just as you may think Brown is this nasty tough old curmudgeon..I would be willing to bet that he is more than happy to realize that his family tradition will carry on with bright daughters and grandchildren..I dont get why some people hang on to the past so much when in fact there has been a very positive and deliberate shift in the way this organization has been run the past 5 years

Being a good person has nothing to do with being a horrible owner of an NFL team.  He has always thought that he was highly qualified to be the GM of this team.  I dont have time to list all the patheticness that many of us have lived through since 1991.  If social media was around then, it would have been very, very ugly.

Mike Brown absolutely has authority in the building today.  Im not sure where you heard that he doesnt?   It took Jackson Carmen to finally stop him from insisting on who we draft.

As a person many people like Mike, that does nothing for a fanbase that has had to endure his dismal decisions for 35 years.

On the contrary, his father, Paul Brown was not very cordial. He was very strict, very controlling.  Some players hated him.  Yet he was one of the greatest football minds ever.  Give me the asshole that wins championships over the nice guy with a huge ego and much less desire to win.

I never said he didn't have some authority in the building, which I surely think he does but not as much as he did 10 or so years ago. You have me mixed up with another poster here. And yes he wasn't the model owner or GM, I said that as well, I guess it was some of the cold remarks some made in this thread about him that seemed a bit harsh that's all.

Update. Chase was fully suited up in PJ's last night for bedtime.

Here's the draft "sticks" from 2020 to now:

2020 - Burrow, Tee, Logan

2021 - Chase, McPherson. Of the OL picks yes Carman was a Mike Brown special (I gather some rumors said Pollack wanted Creed Humphrey).

2022 - Hill, CTB, Volson - whatever you think of the players they have all stuck. If Volson continues what we saw in the second half of last season and this preseason this draft goes up a couple of notches. Hill in preseason looked pretty good at CB - we'll see.

2023 - So far this draft looks impressive. Murphy, Battle, DJ Turner, Chase Brown, Chuck Sizzle, Yoshi have all stuck and look like keepers.

2024 - Everyone made the roster and now they need to show their stuff in the pros.
