Yes, he can improve. I think everyone HOPES he does.  But he will not be good until he PROVES on the field that he is good over an appreciable sample size.  Until then, he sucks.

For this offense, a lot is required from the WR3.  Boyd averaged 96 targets per year during the Burrow years.  Yoshi is on pace for 58, and arguably doesn't even deserve that many.  17 of his 24 Targets came the first three weeks of the season.  He is not capable of fulfilling the WR3 role in this offense at this point.  That much is painfully obvious.  Given his draft status, the chances that he will ever develop to the point where he can adequately fulfill that role are remote, and he has shown nothing to give any unbiased person the idea that he will.

Sorry, but that's a lot of typing when you could have just said, you haven't a clue of what you are talking about.

I think it is obvious that we need much better play between the 20's by Yoshi or whoever at WR3.

At this rate, you gotta wonder what will happen first....

One of these yearly Golden Binns winners will actually pan out as an NFL starter or....

The horde of people that constantly overhype the Golden Binns winners year after year will realize that these guys haven't panned out for well over a decade and maybe they need to look at how they're evaluating WR's.

Kupp can't stay healthy. I just don't see the coaches undermining any of these young guys confidence here in Cincy. They're trying to mold these young players not tear them down.

Could have had Hopkins for a 5th.

Boyd could be got for similar, if not less.

With the news of Hopkins to the chiefs, do we really not think we could get Boyd back for peanuts? I understand the FO mindset of seeing if younger players develop. That said, it’s been 7 games. It’s ok to be wrong, and in this case… the opportunity cost is not big. Hell, they could be in a better spot, financially, than if they had resigned him (to a likely larger deal than he got).

At $141,000/game, his rest of season salary is $1.5m. The bengals could easily absorb that. This would take care of WR3, in the short term.

I’d also look around for a CB and potentially RB.

Yoshi has played in 23 games during his NFL career.

He has posted 40+ yards in a game once.  And he needed 7 targets to get there.

Like, I get rooting for draft picks to succeed and he seems like a great kid.  But there's nothing he's shown that indicates he can handle the WR3 role.

It depends.  The Titans may not want to completely gut their WR group.

To me, I'd eyeball Cooper Kupp.  The Rams are reportedly willing to pick up a chunk of his salary if he's traded and he has 2 years left on his contract after this one.  That would make losing Tee a lot less of a dire proposition, in addition to being a massive upgrade this year.

As of now, I don't think that he would produce much as a starter. He does well at defeating the initial block from the tackle, but looks like he's got sand in his boots when pursuing QBs, and get knocked off line easily when he should have a straight shot at the QB.

Murphy has been a huge dissopintment for me this season.

If they whiff on both the Dax and Murphy picks...then BIG yikes.

No offense to Cooper Kupp, but he's on the hook for a lot of money. His cap hit for next season is $30M. If the Bengals are going to pay a WR not named Jamarr Chase $30M next season, I hope that guy is Tee Higgins.

If the Bengals are going to pay a WR not named Ja'Marr Chase $30m next season, I hope someone repeatedly slaps them in the face until they stop. There's only about half a dozen or so WRs worth that money in the entire NFL, Chase is one, Tee isn't, and we're not going to be getting any of the others.

Plus Kupp is injured a lot, even more than Tee.

But I still think 30 mil should be only for Chase, Tee should still be around 25-28 mil at the most IMO.

And I have really liked what I have seen of Tee this season, but he hasn't gotten over 100 yards in a game yet pretty sure.

Agree on the price for sure. But with the way Tee is playing I would extend him for under 30 mil and extend Trey and BJ on D as well.

Have to pay some of these guys and these guys have been good to damn good in Trey.

Dionte Johnson is available as well. He would FEAST as the number 3/slot here. Not sure how he would feel about being number 3. But if
You can get past that, he would be a get worth getting.

Also proven to be a capable 1/2 so would help as an inhouse insurance policy.

It's a fair point, but also consider that, no disrespect to Tee, Kupp has been a lot more productive than Higgins.

Either way, we're looking at shelling out big money for Tee or another WR2 or basically being "WR or bust" in the 1st next year, neither of which is a great option.  Trading for Kupp also gives us the advantage of not having to escrow the vast bulk of the guaranteed money for a player of his caliber.  And, you've got the rest of the year of one of the most frightening WR trios ever assembled.

Aggressive?  Certainly.  All in?  Definitely.  But are we that concerned about a cap crunch next year if we win a Lombardi this year?

If he could handle it, I would be all for adding Dionte. Nice thought for sure Bengalbug.

Lots of good points Whatever, nothing wrong with going all in for a SB win when we desperately need one.

$30m for guys like Jamarr Chase was last off-season's pricing.  Ninja

To quote the poet Terrence LeVarr Thornton:  "Yesterday's price is not today's price."

I never knew where that quote came from, thanks for the enlightenment.

Here's one from my world of work.  Whomever came up with the phrase "What is done cannot be undone", obviously never worked in Autocad.

Good riddance he's gone? The best blessing in disguise we've had in years? That's some cold and disrespectful shit for a guy who was an absolute professional and very productive for us for years.

I'm not saying Boyd's best days are ahead of him, they're likely not, but there's going to be a time when Higgins gets dinged up (he always does) and you're going to have Chase, a 3rd round rookie, and a 6th round pick with 116 career receiving yards out there at WR... or Chase, Irwin, Sample, and a TE who had 244 yards last year and 362 yards the year before.... and you should remember this thread then.

Also people acting like Boyd force's Zac's hand in offensive concepts as if the first 2 years of Zac without Chase he didn't do the exact same shit. Or the first year without Chase OR Higgins we didn't still run a primarily 3 WR offense with a combination of Boyd, Ross, A Tate, and Erickson despite that being a trashpile of a WR group. But sure, it's Boyd's fault and now we're free from his tyranny of dictating how Zac's offense will be.

This day came. Very few on here saw the red flags in the summer. Most here said Boyd is washed, some claimed it was our “deepest and best” position group. In reality, it was top heavy with one of the guys very big injury concerns, and then unproven across the board. This was a huge and inexpensive hole that the bengals didn’t address. What a colossal failure.

Having a TJ Housh, or Boyd type player that can get the 7/70 stat line, most likely results in different play calls on 3rd/4th and 2.

We have guys who can’t separate, outside of Chase, so burrow needs to wait longer and gets blown up. What burrow did last night was magical, but there is no quick outlet for burrow.
