Tee vs a NEW D

I can honestly understand both sides.

Pretty simple. Cut the guys not performing and use that money.

Rankins. Trent Browns salary comes off books.

The Bengals are at a point where it's sign Tee and Chase or going for lesser talent in Free Agency. Not a good choice.

Chase Brown in 3 years and Mims in 4. Thosexare our young guys pitentially worth big money.

CTB, Dax, Turner, and Battle shoukd be oretty moderate and aren't this year anyway.

Restructure Joe
Extend Chase
Tag/extend Tee
Cut some dead weight (Rankins, Cappa, + maybe more)
Bring back some vets (at least 2 of Hilton/BJ/Gesicki + maybe ADG, Ford, Hudson, T. Brown).
At least two FA to aid in the trenches, three if you let BJ walk: IOL at least one, DL at least one

I think Tee forced the Bengals hand tonight.... they likely will re-sign him.

I'm still in the camp of loading up on defense and taking a shot at a WR in Round 1 but it is what it is.

There is no denying if Tee stays on the field it helps our offense 10 fold.

I've been all over the place about paying or not paying Tee. Currently, I'm at:

We have more than enough cap to patly them both with Chase on the books for $21 mil next year.

Restructure Joe, cut Rankins, Cappa, & Moss, and we have over $100 mil in cap. $75 post Higgins getting tagged.

Use that $75 to extend Chase (around $7-$10 hit), re-sign some of our own higher oriced FA's (Hilton, Gesicki, BJ Hill?), and spend the rest on FA help in the trenches, our picks, and cheaper FA vets (Ossai, ADG, Ford, T. Brown, Hudson, Herbert, or similar level outside FA's.

A better org would be able to do both. This one cannot.

Pay Tee and focus draft picks on the D side. Replace the glaring holes with moderately priced FA.

What you cannot do is let Tee walk and assume they’ll spend that money wisely. Or at all.

Tee is a known commodity. If they use his money on FA defenders, we’ll get a stocking full of Nick Scotts, Geno Stones, Sheldon Rankinseseseaes and a bag of ***** magic beans.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.

Regardless of what happens, we NEED a really good draft.

Plus, they let Boyd go so there were savings there.

Yes but in flip side  you need a maybe 2 dt , 2 de , 2 safties vs 1 WR.

Tee.

Bengals aren’t going to shop for S tier free agents with that spare money. I’ll take Tee over 2-3 Rankins, Stone, etc.

You won't get that all with Tee's money. Any you let him walk, they'll sign a free agent wr too.

I can't fault your logic.  The draft, however, does appears to be a fairly weak one for wrs and a deep one for DL FWIW.

I don't necessarily disagree about needs, but it's highly unlikely we get all of those players in one offseason.  Acquiring that volume of players is a lot closer to a two-year rebuild than a one offseason fix.

Who are these players you're paying? That's 7 different players you are listing without a single name.

Not many " better organizations" pay their quarterback and 2 receivers over a 100 million a year...foolish

Higgins will hold in and request a trade if you tag him again.

You also have to give Hendrickson an extension or trade him as he already asked for a trade last offseason and this will be his last chance for a big payday.

Meanwhile a Burrow restructure, Chase extension, Tee signing, and Hendrickson extension would be about $200m that needs to immediately be spent or go into escrow which the Browns/Blackburns are going to be tight about and you've yet to actually improve over the last two years at that point. You still have to spend more to just bring our roster back to 2024 levels and spend more on top of that to ACTUALLY improve with that help in the trenches.

Too cheap an uncreative of an organization for all of that. Their idea of "adventurous" was giving Joe Burrow $9m in void years and I think that's the first time they've ever done that. Hurts meanwhile got $97.5m in his void years. I can't recall times where the Bengals restructured contracts to push cap space into later years. They've done straight up pay cuts to guys, but I don't recall any real cap manipulation.

- - - - - -

Two teams paid their WRs and their QB. The Dolphins and the Eagles.

The Dolphins haven't drafted amazingly and they've kind of gone to shit as the rest of their team got raided in FAs.

The Eagles have drafted well and are absolutely abusing the salary cap rules to shove down cap hits now to try to win a SB now with zero regard to their future 2-3 years from now (they will be absolutely buried under void year dead cap hits for a couple years).

Our FO won't say F-it and just manipulate to the max, and we aren't going to be great drafters for years in a row, so it's going to be real tough to pay 2 WRs and a QB all big money, and then field the rest of a competitive team.

I was wrong about being fine with letting Bates walk and man it would SUCK if Tee goes somewhere else and balls out and we use that money on a bunch of Rankins and Stone’s.

I was only ok-ish with letting Bates go if it meant keeping Tee. If they lose both, this organization is garbage.

Well one of them dumptrucked us back in October. Been hearing how all the other losses were so close.
