They are paying AJ Brown 32 million per year. They are paying Smith 25 million per year. The total between the QB and his two WRs is 108 million per year. The Bengals are paying Joe Burrow 55 million per year. This means the Bengals would have 53 million left to pay Chase and Higgins if comparing to what the Eagles are spending for their QB + top 2 WRs. The Bengals could give Higgins his 25 million per year which would leave Chase 28 million per year. You think Chase would go for that to keep the gang together? Justin Jefferson got 35 million per year. If you give Chase a better contract at 36 million per year that leaves Tee 17 million per year. The comparison to the Eagles isnt valid because the Bengals would end up spending several million more on the QB + WR1 +WR2

I just saw this earlier and was wondering where to post it. I guess as a response here is as good a place as any. But I don't think the difference in what is relatively a few million that big of a deal. Especially considering the cap continuing to rise.

These are also numbers now not to say what can change as time goes forward. The Bengals have got them into a bit of a mess and that's there own fault. One could say letting a high level player on a team that only has a FEW leave as being. Idiotic.

Idiotic. Once the players develop, then you have the tough conversation about Tee. That’s at least 3 years away. It’s idiotic to say, “nah, we good”… any sooner than you have to. If Tee and Trey leave, it’s idiotic to think we will replace them with more WAR players than those two bring to the table. We saw this with whit, reader, bates. If tee walks, you are a chase injury away from having, arguably, the worst WR room in the NFL. ![]()

Let’s let a known commodity go, because we draft and develop so well. Oh, I almost forgot how we just are great at bringing in outside free agents. For those saying bring in guys like Zeitler, I am not opposed. But this team simply doesn’t bring in older vets and Rankins/Brown from last year are not going to help with that narrative. ![]()

In 2027 they already have $228m in cap spending. In fact they lead the entire NFL in cap spending for '27, '28, '29, and '30. They have $189m in cap allocations for 2028 with just 6 players under contract. They have $199m in cap allocations for 2029 with just 1 player under contract. And again, it's only working now because they are drafting amazingly. Also for every Eagles there's a Dolphins, and Browns, and Jaguars, etc.... and possibly the 49ers? (The 49ers, who missed the playoffs, have $223m in cap allocations for 2027 and HAVEN'T paid a QB). - - - - - - - The Eagles GM can ignore their future because the GM is not winning a SB away from being fired and if he fails to win a SB, he won't have to live with the results because he will be fired. The Bengals have to live with what they do to the future because they're not firing family. Now the Bengals can certainly afford to push a bit MORE into the future as they're well below average on future cap allocations (which is probably a pretty big result of all the bad drafts) but you really shouldn't use the Eagles as a blueprint to try to emulate as you will fail and then your team will collapse in the future. ____________________________________________________________

Teams in this situation seem to get bailed out by the ever increasing salary cap. Or restructuring older players to convert to salary or bonus before cutting them. The saints are always kicking the can down the road and until recently seemed to finally have to ge5 rid of guys. ![]()

Why do I have the feeling rather than the Bengals getting an extension done before FA starts, instead the FO will have Higgins "test the market" on for Higgins to come back and say "I'm getting X from these teams, what about you?" and Bengals going "Oh no, that's wayyyyy higher than we were thinking!"
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward. Sorry for Party Rocking! ![]()

They kept kicking the can down the road always trying to avoid paying the piper, and they haven't won shit because of it because they didn't want to just take their medicine and absolutely suck for a handful of years. Saints had a HoF coach and HoF QB and won 3 playoff games in 11 years (never more than one in a season) and missed the playoffs in 7 of those 11 years. Steelers haven't won a playoff game since 9 years ago. ____________________________________________________________

Keep in mind some of these players will get tagged, but for those who say if we don't extend Tee who else is there to spend the money on in FA...
