McMaybe

Taking out last year, he was a top 5 K every year, missing the same amount of kicks each year and never any more: that kind of consistency, combined with his clutch factor (which only was non-existent last year), make him a needed commodity...

I posted the stats.  They dont lie.  He has never been that accurate of a kicker.  He has never finished in the top 10 in any season.  He had a good run in the 2021 post season where he made some kicks.  Beyond that, the guy has been subpar.  Again, the stats dont lie.

If they move on from McPherson, I will advocate for an uber aggressive offense utilizing a top rugby kicking talent.

That would allow for aggressive play calling, as rugby has some hard runners, and players who can kick regular field goals as well as drop kick field goals at anytime in the game. Say you are going for 2 every time and it is a simple drop kick that is basically automatic.

If you get the right look, it could be an easy two instead.

I think they'll stick for another year but they'll have their eye on the waiver wire in case he don't get back on track quickly
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

I don't think they can drop kick during a two point conversion attempt anymore.

I floated the idea when the rule was initially passed (and the technical language was not finalized) that the offense could commit to a run or pass, snap from the 2-yard line, and then kick a dropkick. Vice president of officiating Dean Blandino threw water on that idea:

Quote:@TimPriceNC @RapSheet can still drop kick but snap has to be from 15. Can't snap from 2 and drop kick.
— Dean Blandino (@DeanBlandino) May 19, 2015

If a team attempts a kick that does not snap from the 15 (or equivalent yard line after a penalty), it is a touchback, and the conversion attempt fails.
On the other hand, if the line of scrimmage is set for a kick, the offense may still run or pass for two points, particularly if there is a botched snap.

I think we stick with McPherson. Hopefully it was the injury that caused his misses last year.

They'll bring in a camp leg or two as they always do, and maybe even frame it as a potential competition, but it'll basically be "don't poop yourself and you win" for McPherson.

If we cut him post June 1, we save money. Around $2.5 mil, I think.

There was a serious outside distraction for Evan that makes one wonder how much it may have affected his kicking

His younger brother Alex, a kicker for Auburn, was seriously ill through most of the season.  A young man who usually weighs about 160lbs was down to 110lbs in July.   After lots of tests he was ultimately diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis.  As a result in late December, Alex had his entire large intestine removed

Alex is doing better and is back kicking...complete with his ostomy bag

Hopefully Evan will be better too

All hopes turn to next year

It seemed he wasn't taking it serious last year. Just my thoughts.

^ this.

I'm a Mac fan personally,, but have to agree.

Any UDFAs on the radar to bring in for camp competition from this year's draft eligible kickers?

Yes, this is what I seem to remember as well.  The smiling and laughing after he missed.  Very irritating.

I think he would've even missed more kicks had Zac let him have more opportunities.  It seems like we went for it sometimes when we could've kicked a FG just because Zac probably thought he was going to miss anyway.
