Brian Burns got traded last year after an 8 sack season and was franchise tagged. The panthers got #39 and moved up in the 5th swapping places and a 5th for 2025 draft. He has had double digit sacks once in his career. And they had to give him a giant contract.
They are going to be stubborn and not give him away for cheap. And I don’t blame them.
The reason the asking price is so high is because we don't want to lose him. This has been obvious from the start. Now, if someone wants to make a Herschel Walker or Ricky Williams lopsided trade offer? Sure, OK. But we are not interested in a fair trade for Trey. Only a super lopsided one.
He & Chase are under contract. Tee has been tagged. I wish we'd have done this last year, or earlier this year. It would have been cheaper and we'd have more cap room. And perhaps Burrow's reatructure is contingent on these extensions?
We still have arounf $20 mil in cap. There are still some good FA's out there. Let's,get thesexdeals done and upgrade at guard for sure. And maybe more if we free more space.

Tunsil is a 30 YO, good left tackle still.
third- and seventh-rounders in 2025 and second- and fourth-rounders in 2026. The Commanders also will receive a fourth-round pick this spring from Houston.
Anything less than this package, ideally more, is what bengals should get.

It seems like a ton when you list it out like that, but keep in mind that draft picks are roughly one round lower in value for every year in the future they are.
So on the trade chart Houston really only got ~306 points in return. That's roughly the same as the 2025 59th overall pick.

I think this is probably accurate. If Trey and Chase and Higgins are still not signed/traded by preseason, I believe they could do a hold-in throughout the preseason and would find more public support than criticism. Not after watching Higgins being tagged twice rather than get the opportunity for long-term stability. Not after Hendrickson found out that other teams were willing to give him the salary and guaranteed money he is seeking but the Bengals were unwilling to trade him.* Not after the Chase negotiations seeming to go on forever. And the same goes if they have "soft-tissue issues" and sit out some games.
* The report from Dianna Russini that "Teams are willing to pay Trey Hendrickson the contract that he desires but have found Cincinnati's current asking price to be 'ridiculous.'"
The hope is that The Family solves these three issues by preseason, but if they don't, I think this year the blame will go on the Bengals FO/owners rather than the three players. When you have your top 4 players complaining (someone posted Burrow's annoyance above), then there is a pattern that cannot be downplayed.

Trey would have helped himself make more money if he wasn't a 1 trick pony. A good trick, but not being able to move around and/or stop the run hurts his trade value and his demand for setting the market.

They traded him to dump his salary. We are in the opposite situation; Trey is only an extremely low salary in 2025. Bengals have to motivated to trade Trey. They want him, Texans did not want Tunsil for his salary.

They traded him because they got back a value that was appropriate. He was never going to be cut.

They have a QB on a rookie deal. I didn't think they would need to make moves for financial reasons. Especially to a position like LT..... I don't know what Houston is up to or doing. They've decimated their Oline.

Look at their cap, they cut him to afford others. Why else would you trade your best OL?

Chiefs traded Thuney also to get cap relief.
These teams did not think the salary was a value any longer.

Well, either that or 2-3 years younger would have done it.

They traded him because he led the NFL in penalties last year and the new OL Coach wanted to clean out their OL room because it had a bad culture.
They also traded their 2022 1st round pick G and cut a vet G.

Whoa...this thread taking a turn to kinky town lol
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.
Sorry for Party Rocking!

Didn't I say they traded him because his value took a dive? They dumped him because he made too much money for just a good OT in my humble opinion. Also, they would have not signedor beforced to cut other players to get under the cap the first day of the league year (Wednesday the 12th at 4 p.m.).
I provided the factaul info on their cap space. Did you look at it or just want to argue?

Cool, but I am pointing out that money was not the primary reason... they could always make more cap space if they wanted to, just as they did when they traded for Christian Kirk on the 6th and then just today converted his base salary into a signing bonus with void years to clear up $11.46m in cap space and they could do the same with other guys if they wanted to.

The trade was about the new OL coach fixing/setting the culture, not money. If you want to call me pointing that out as "just wanting to argue" then sure.
