They could also choose to do a hold-in during preseason and even hold out for about half the season and report in time for the season to count as part of their accrued season. (The old CBA said they had to be ready to play at least 6 games to get an accrued season, which means show up in enough time to be ready to play; I don't know what the new CBA is in terms of a 17-game season.)

And I don't think Tee has signed his tag yet, so he could wait until the end of preseason to sign the tag.

The is the gamble The Family is playing with in an effort to not spend the going dollar.

The way this organization is ran is just so frustrating for us fans and more importantly the players.

you dont know what is transpiring behind closed doors..and just maybe ..and even though you might not agree, the organization does not want to retain the same players  that you do and arre exploring trade and value options

this is happening in many " NFL  cities" at this time of year..Its not a Bengals thing..Bengals players are getting paid millions to play a game..they will be fine I think its a little harder on their fans

So lets get this straight..The Brown family ..already worth over 4-5 billion..are purposefully trying to sabatoge the team ..You do realize the "bottom line " for any owner would be better if the team performs well.. I think Chase will be with the team for many years..I think we have some good defensive linemen developing and it would not surprise me if they traded Hendrickson..I dont think you need two superstar receivers on one team and unfortunately Higgins also has a very real problem staying healthy

The irony right now is they are getting bashed by everyone, almost everyone,, because in the bashers' opinions, if they had spent the money last year on them, they would be making more money going forward.

It's the old "gotta spend $$$ to make $$$", and they didn't and now will pay for it, one way or another, according to the critics that is.

With Myles Garrett now signed to largest non-QB contract in history, Chase is likely to command >$35 mill APY, if not $40+ mill that Garrett just signed for.
It would arguably be asinine for the Bengals to pay $35+ mill for Chase, $30+ mill for Higgins, and $8.5 mill for Gesicki.
That'd be $70-80 mill combined.

Add in Burrow's $55 mill APY and you'd be looking at ~$130 mill toward just 4 players, ALL on offense.
The NFL salary cap is $280 mill.

I think we may have to accept that Bengals can (should) only roll with either Higgins or Chase, not both, beyond this season.
Otherwise, the rest of the team will be scrap heap cost-wise or majority on rookie deals.
With the track record of this organization to draft and develop talent, it could put them back into the dead zone again with ~7-9 wins perpetually.
Mid-late 2000's all over again.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Yup

I'm becoming more and more of the opinion that there's only one way out of this dumpster fire they've created.

Tag and trade Tee for the best option they get. Pay Chae and Trey (now a lot more money than if they hadn't of sat on their hands for and season and a half) and draft or get the best low dollar WR they can find.

I just don't think there's any way they can pay all 3 the top dollar they're gonna get. Something has to give

No way im paying him 30 plus as 2nd WR with Chase going to be over 40 m, lets see what organization has that type of $$ in their top 2 WRs with a top 5 QB salary.. now with Burrow pressuring Bengals, they probably will do it, and we will continue to have a subpar defense.. and probably be borderline playoff team again.

Tee's value fnancially just went down. Godwin signs 3 year 66 million dollar deal. So not a crazy salary and also tops the top WR off the market since Adama also was signed.

Lots of teams with no true #1 WR on their roster.

Godwin is also 3 years older than Higgins and coming off a big injury.
I'm sure Higgins's camp will be making this point.

Way to go front office !

Both of the WRs deals should have already been done and locked up months/ a year ago. We shouldn't even be discussing this at the moment. If we were discussing it, it should be about how grateful, fortunate, and lucky we were to have locked them up last year.

Us fans seem to think it's all about the money when it comes to the Brown/Blackburn family. They seem to act like it's always about the damn money. Yet, here they are just a burning Benjis like it's paper or something.

Their inaction and hem-hawing around will now cost them several million more than it would have previously.

Of course they will and Bengals will counter Tee is not 1 #1 WR so should not be paid WR money. Also, Tee is young, but also a huge injury history.

The same thing the team is arguing, any team trading for Tee will argue as well.

The exact same thing could be said for DE. But, Bengals signed Trey to a great contract, yet Bengals and media pummeling them over it.

JJ Watt should have been extended as well. Watt would command 38- 40 million a year now because of Crosby and Garrett contracts. Steelers either extend him or are forced to tag him in 2026. This is last year of his deal. He also is 31 like Trey.
