Scherff makes a lot of sense as a bridge candidate. Draft a couple of young guards and have him mentor them.
Guard is the type of position where you can find good starters in the 4th or 5th. However the chances of them being good starters from week 1 are low. Giving them half a season, a year as a back-up is a much better way to go.
I think this has been a big part of the Bengals’ interior problems. Players like Jordan, Volson were chucked in as soon as they showed any promise. This didn’t set them up for long term success.
ps At the moment I think their best O-line will be with Karras at G and Matt Lee at C.

Okay, I saw that too and was wondering if there was new info out there. That was a prediction and a good one, but this FO will squash that "prediction"!

On one hand, I get the trepidation and the "do something" anxiety. On the other, there's still a good number of quality G's out there that would represent a significant upgrade over what we had last season. When the G market starts drying up, I'll get concerned.

Thing is, G is not our only need. Far from it. There are a lot of glaring needs. It’s like they don’t want to address the needs until they know the price tag for Tee/Chase/Trey, but they can’t afford to resign Tee/Chase/Trey until they know how much they’re going to have to spend in FA.
So the blackburns and browns just sit in a room, staring at a wall in a high-stakes battle of wits.

They had 2 massive needs coming into this FA - guard and pass rush. They’ve done absolutely nothing to improve either.

No doubt.
My point was more to the Bengals mindset. Thinking they have someone to replace a departed player, ala, Kirkland or Ford because they played well at the end of the year, so they don't hit FA as hard with a player that is more proven.
They could still end up with one or two of them but it's a risky gamble to take...and unnecessary.

Eh...I wouldn't say they played well. Ford at least kept Joe upright, so for that, I think he's a solid first man off the bench.
I think it's more of a situation where they know they can't really do any worse than what they had last year, and still had an elite offense.

That is not good news. I do question, it is Friday so why wait until Monday.
Is his agent leaking a trip to Seattle to get a team he is negotiting with some leverage to move now?
Or is he visiting other teams this weekend?

If Jenkins signs w/Seattle the refrain will still be “stop crying! we’re only 4 days into FA! Lots of good guards left!!”
“tbh I never really liked Jenkins, he’s not that good”
“shut up we can get guards in the draft!”
“not our fault no one wants to come to cincy”

Tbf I was saying give me Scherff and Risner before news of his visit to Seattle emerged.

If they sign 2 good ones, yes.
If they don’t, will you admit you’re Hobson?

Risner has ties to our passing game coordinator. One of the reasons I thought maybe they'd sign him last offseason.

Give us your list of good choices. Does draft count?
I am not the one in panic mode. I see starting guards with pick #17 in the draft. You know, same thing KC did when they drafted 5th round guard Trey Smith.
