Having a .434 and .456 OPS batting 4th and 5th in the order is going to make things real tough.
Honestly a bit of a miracle that they have 5 runs on 4 hits/3 walks/2 double plays. ____________________________________________________________

Reds Win Two Series in A Row
De La Cruz Hits Homer With Men On Base on De La Cruz Bobble Head Night With Fans Packed In To See De La Cruz Greene and Abbott give back to back good starts. Pagan is doing great in Closer role putting up Saves. The Team is Better with Terry Francona. Reds have a real Manager for first time in a long, long Time. Francona who won World Series with Boston Red Sox for first time in 100 years, is the best Manager hire Reds could have made, Reds have had few World Series winning Managers in their History. In my lifetime they had Sparky and Lou. Detroit was smart to hire Sparky and he turned Tigers from a bad team into a World Series winner. Jack McKeon and Dusty went on to win World Series for Florida and Houston. Bill Moran and Bill McKechnie won World Series for Reds. However the list of World Series Managers for Cincinnati is a short List.....I know the difference a good manager makes. My 3 years in teenage ball I had 3 managers. The first and last one were goof off duds. The 2nd year however, that man actually Managed and had good practices. It was my best year and our team actually won the season. The other two seasons we were as lousy as our managers. So I know that a good Manager makes a huge difference. Terry Francona is a World Series Manager and he is just what this team needed to get these young players on the ball.

Greene starting today so maybe we've got a decent chance at a sweep? But these bats have got to come alive!!! We won yesterday because of one Elly swing and pretty much nothing else.
CES .163 with 3 RBI's, Candelario .143 does have 7 RBI's but still been nonexistent at the plate in a few games now. Steer .119 geezzz, Fraley .188 with 1 RBI. We're gonna lose games with 3 hits and 1 run or none if this damn offense doesn't start getting it together, and fast. ![]()

Posts like this are why I quit all fantasy leagues over 35 years ago . . . yeah, there are issues, but allow yourself to enjoy a win. Back to back series wins, even. Hays and Stephenson will probably be in those spots in a couple of weeks. Great season debut by Abbott. A real pitcher in a game filled with throwers. I'm not sure that I've ever had as much confidence in a Reds starting five than I have right now. Yeah. Even Martinez. A much needed towering grand slam by De La Cruz hitting righty. On his bobblehead night? A lot of those bobbleheads are probably already on Ebay but most of those taking home the bobbleheads will be talking about that night for years to come. Solid defense from Marte early and late. 1 for 4 with a run scored. Let's hope that his time back in AAA has straightened him out. Jose Trevino 0 for 3 but with his 4th RBI in 31 plate appearances . . . Luke Maile had 8 RBI in 154 plate appearances in 2024. It's nice watching a starting eight stay mostly intact. For the 2nd night in a row the only switch was Fraley for Lux, late in the game for defense. I got tired of Bell's constant need to mess with the lineup. Most of it seemed to happen because he just had to put his stamp on the game. Random stat out of nowhere . . . listening to the Dodgers broadcast of the Cubs destroying them 16-0 . . . it was Ian Happ's 1,000th game as a Cub and he is only the third player to reach that number with the Cubs that was actually drafted by the Cubs. He joins Shawon Dunston and Mark Grace as the only players in that club.

I posted that during the game right after they made back-to-back outs, we hadn't secured the win yet. (We currently have a 2-0 lead today, so I will repeat what I said earlier. 100 more games against the Pirates, please! Lol) ____________________________________________________________

Sweep complete- great. .500 team now and only 1 game behind Cubs and Brewers in loss column. Yes it's way early.
Lodolo vs. Castillo tomorrow might be good game? Espinal is a decent utility player and good to have on a team. But oh boy!! But my gosh, I hate to keep bashing Steer but Ofer again .109 now. Candelario .132 They've got to step it up at the plate. ![]()

Maybe we get lucky and see Hays and McClain return this week. I think Diaz is getting close, too.

It feels like greed, but part of me would love to see Lowder come back and put Martinez in the pen. Nick is a fine option if you need a starter in a pinch, but his struggles the third time through lineups scream reliever. Hopefully they get the chance to consider such a decision at some point.

Hunter Greene has become the genuine #1 ace and Cy Young front runner that we were expecting him to become when we selected him #2 overall way back in 2017.
It still fascinates me how far into the future team building decisions like drafting players occur in baseball.

Terry Francona did not take over the best team of players in baseball. He was brought in to develop young players and try to improve this mess. So the broom also could mean cleaning up the mess this team was in. I see some on here question Martinez as a starter and such, but I say let Terry Francona do the job he was brought in to do. The World Series winning Manager is trying to put the players he has, in what he thinks is their best spots to help this team. He took over a team of many injured pitchers and only one superstar hitter. I saw World Series winning Manager Jack McKeon take a not very good Reds team and make enough moves to get them in a one game play-off with the New York Mets in October. What they lacked in 1999 in talent, Jack McKeon made up in Team Work. I like that after a Reds Win now, the Reds Players coming off the field say in celebration, " Tight Ship, Tight Ship ". That is New this year, and it means they are buying into Terry Francona Team Work.

I see that happening but after a few more starts. So far, the fact that Martinez was the #3 starter coming out of the gate may have been a smart move. The "#4 starter" is 3-0 Brady Singer. He gets to face a weaker pitcher for a while and probably very motivated by pushed down to #4. I've been motivated by competing with a team mate before and it is fierce. My first year on my American Legion/High School baseball team(mostly 17-18 year old), a fellow 16 year old(from California) was placed as the #6 hitter to start the season and I was #8. PISSED me off big time. Every time he got on base, I did all I could to make sure that I was the reason that he scored. If he popped up or hit a weak ground ball or struck out, it was my focus to just hit the ball in a hard line drive . . . anywhere. Base hit, out, I didn't care. I just wanted the coaches to see that they made a mistake because I was a better hitter than him. After a few games, I was mostly #6 or occasionally #5 in the lineup for the rest of the season. Having Martinez pitch a day before Singer might be Singer's current motivating factor(Yeah, I know he's a pending FA). Having to find a new primary motivation doesn't always work out. Outside of health issues, Lowder will be up this year. They'll also have Miley coming up in a month or two, even though I think that he'll just be a spot starter and long relief if needed, which is kind of Martinez' intended role. My main worry so far has been Encarnacion-Strand. I was really hoping that he and Hays were going to push Steer and Candelario further down the lineup. CES doesn't appear to be high on Francona's priority list and his weak average shows why.
