Which player on this team is going to be the next to pull a Hendrickson?

Either way, if you think he's even top 10, this is a defense that can ill afford losing a player of that caliber.  It's pure cope when certain fans suggest that "ooh, he's not that good anyway."  That's clownery in it's purest form.

I don't think any player on the team is going to be the next one to pull a Hendrickson, because it's pretty beyond the pale to sign a shit contract then keep asking for a raise every single year while under that contract. I'm bored with him.

bengals will do what they always do. and eff it up. they should just trade trey and get value but they won't they'll just let him go after his contract is up. a new DC isn't going to change the defense. that said i voted to pay trey. ownership doesn't want a trophy they just want ratings. burrow gives them that. sad organization. very sad.

He apparently needed more money in that moment and, having outperformed the contract he signed in 2021, wanted some up front money in that off season...

He outperformed his contract?  Really?  When Hendrickson demanded more money after coming off that 8 sack season just 2 years into his contract, here is where he ranked compared to the rest of the NFL in sacks:  https://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/player/_/view/defense/season/2022/seasontype/2/table/defensive/sort/sacks/dir/desc

The Bengals still stepped up and gave Hendrickson 21 million that included an 8 million dollar signing bonus in extra money that Hendrickson didnt deserve yet the Bengals stepped up took care of Trey when Trey wasnt even finished with his 1st contract.

Is this the part of the show where we pretend Trey Hendrickson hasn't been an elite pass rusher since the moment he joined our team in 2021?

Enjoy yourself over there. I will not be joining you in that fantasy land.

All I can do is show you that stats.  The stats dont lie.  They are what they are.  In 2022 he had just 8 sacks which put him at #30 overall in sacks and #18 amongst DE's.   Coming off a season where he ranked #30 in the NFL in sacks and just 2 years into his contract with the Bengals, he came to the Bengals wanting a new contract and more money.  He didnt deserve a raise for his 8 sack season or a new contract especially when he was only half way through his first contract.  The Bengals went ahead and took care of Trey and gave him a lot of money Trey didnt deserve at that point in time.

Like you said earlier Trey didnt bet on himself.  I think Trey got scared coming off his 8 sack season and tried to get paid as much as he could at that time.  You see it in the interviews he gave after he signed the extension.  He was very happy.  He should have been happy considering he just had an 8 sack season which ranked Hendrickson down at #30 in the NFL in sacks.   Still, Trey and his agent got the Bengals to give him even more money and to overpay for his 8 sack production.  Trey follows that season with a 17 sack season that more than doubled his sack total from the previous year, now he realizes he should have waited and bet on himself so he tries to get more money from the Bengals and another contract for the 2nd year in a row.  This situation is on Trey and his agent.

Sacks are such a narrow window to view an entire position from. They are largely luck based and not truly indicative of a player's impact on the game.

In 2022, he had 18 QB hits, 4th most among edge defenders, a 17.03% pressure rate, which was 8th among pass rushers, and 62 pressures, which was top 12 in the NFL. He had a PFF pass rush grade of 90.2 (top 5 in the NFL), and was widely considered one of the 100 best players in the NFL heading into the 2023 season (75th by the NFL players association, 56th by PFF).

By all accounts, he had an elite 2022 season.

That's a lot of words and meaningful stat evasion just to say that you think that he's greedy and has already been overpaid.

Yes, yes he did have a fantastic season in 2022. Why else would the team have been so quick to jump on the extension? Truth is Trey produces much more than just simply "sacks", his QB hits and TFL are also right up there where a player of his caliber should be. People wanting to single out one particular stat item and use is as a reason that he shouldn't be paid are just fooling themselves, as Hendrickson is not just an elite player, he's also a much needed leader on that Bengal defense.

Its not stat evasion to point out he only had 8 sacks in the 2022 season.  That is a fact.  Its also a fact that coming off his 8 sack season he went to the Bengals wanting more money just half way through his first contract that he hadnt fulfilled.  Its also a fact he was very happy to get that raise coming off his 8 sack season as you can see from any interview he did after he got that new contract.

He was very happy up until he went from an 8 sack season to 17.5 then he wanted to redo his contract for the second year in a row because his sack total jumped from 8 to 17.5.  If he had not been so greedy and demanded more money after just his second season, he would be in better shape now.  This current situation is Treys fault.  The Bengals gave Trey a big raise when he didnt deserve it but it ultimately worked in the Bengals favor because Trey didnt bet on himself.  The reality is you cant keep asking for a new contract every year because other guys sign larger contract than you did.

When talking about Trey's new contract the first point almost everybody wants to bring up is Trey was the NFL sack leader and deserves a raise because of his sacks.  It gets said over and over.    Im pointing out when he signed his extension for the 2025 season, he wasnt the NFL sack leader and was far from it.  He was #30 in sacks and the Bengals did him a solid when he didnt deserve a raise.  He was happy he got that raise coming off his 8 sack season until he had a 17.5 sack season then he wants to redo his contract again the very next year.  That's on Trey not Bengals management.

If he was 30th in all metrics the Bengals would've balked at an extension of any kind. They obviously saw all the numbers people are saying and wanted to keep him happy. Then obviously a 1 year extension is not going to keep someone happy for very long as it is 1 year. Then you add that he did continue to increase his level of play.
