FBI executes search warrant at Mar-A-Lago
It's extra bitterly amusing that this bit of nonsense has coincided with our yearly training in the "Dos and Don'ts and No-Duhs" of how to handle classified documents.

I will say that this whole situation is very "OJ trial for white people" where if you can convince people that someone is being framed the more evidence they find is just more evidence that they are framing the guy and therefore more evidence that he is innocent. Kind of hard to convict someone when you can present the smoking gun and people will say "Boy, you're really going through a lot of trouble to make this frame-up job look like an open and shut case, aren't you?"

Yeah, the Newt Gingrich response was particularly hilarious and reflective of how many on the right view the situation.  Basically he made 2 points.  The first was that an indictment is basically unavoidable based on what he'd seen, so brace for it.  The second was that the DOJ is basically the devil and completely out of bounds in even pursuing the case.  It's quite a bit of rhetorical gymnastics.

To them the big deal is that Trump is even being scrutinized for his handling of the information, not the actual mishandling of the information.

Side note: Nothing is more fun than watching old Newtie make an ass of himself.  He's been aligning himself with losing causes since the day he became a nationally relevant political figure.  He's a less drunk and slightly more buttoned down Guiliani, IMO.  Not many have done more to damage their own rep since leaving office.  Don't worry, though, I have a feeling that DJT will soon be setting a fairly unattainable standard.

This Will be yet another crime Trump will brag about getting away with, but thems the breaks.

Seeing him avoid justice in this life should actually do wonders to recruit liberals to religion as they yearn to believe he will face some sort of unavoidable eternal retribution, though.

Of course, the folders are obviously carefully laid out carefully to photograph for evidentiary reasons.  Just like they do for every piece of evidence found at a crime scene or during a search warrant.  I mean come on, haven’t conservatives ever watched a police drama on tv?

Basically a stack of bales of cocaine without the cocaine.. They always heap it in a nice, neat stack and take pictures.. maga crowd is secretly pissed it wasn't all stacked like cocaine..

There is no one more offended than a rich white guy who finds out how the police/FBI treat OTHER people when they get treated that way themselves.

Biden made a tactical mistake in his Philadelphia speech.  If the nation is going to truly move on from the Trump shit show, then it needs a good number of the people who voted for the turd to come to their senses and realize what a truly shitty, incompetent bastard he really is.  Alienating them is not going to get us there.  Give the more reasonable ones a chance to process this and make an organic moral decision.  Rubbing salt in wounds and broad strokes will only cause the mob to close ranks and side with the crazies.

Bold of you to assume they have senses to come to.

If they haven't figured it out by now, they ain't going to.

They've had nearly 2 years to come to their senses.

Sometimes, it is not about the other side. Democrats and independents needed to be reminded why THEY have to vote too.  The conservatives witht their media megaphones have had the platform for way too long.  It is time the left fought back.  The truth needed to be said and it needs to be said over and over and over.

When you suppress a movement, they tend to come back uglier and stronger.  Those frothing zombies are crazy enough as is.  Organic change beats brute force every time.  Just ask Europe after the Treaty of Versailles.

I took it a different way. The message he sent was that not all Republicans are like this, but the MAGA crew is, and the GOP needs to fix the problem. This puts the ball in the GOP court. Do they double down on the MAGA stuff or do they start to distance themselves? This also puts the attention of the independent voters onto the GOP to see how they react. In the end, though, how you view this is based on your preexisting biases.

speaking out against something is not suppressing it.  We've watched MAGA grow more and more extreme and more and more mainstream among conservatives.  Staying quiet is how they take over.  Not calling out Nazism for what it was is how they won the 1932 election in Germany.  Staying quiet when Hitler took over Von Hindenberg's government is how we ended up in WWII.

We need to be screaming from the rooftops about the dangers of MAGA.  They aren't going to like it but it is not them we are screaming at.  We are screaming at the millions of apathetic voters who are sitting back watching and refusing to engage.

Calling them Nazi's, bigots etc, doesn't really do much to pull them into the engagement category. And you wonder why they refuse to engage?

They aren't calling the apathetic ones Nazis. They are telling those apathetic ones that the MAGA crowd are and they need to get up and vote against that.

Pandering to them has not pushed them to engage. MAGA faithful, who Joe was referring to, has zero interest in meaningful engagement with anyone who doesn't embrace Trump and right wing extremism. It takes both sides to have real dialogue and unity. It is about time we call out the side who embraces obstructionism and authoritarianism. The right has to do their share. They don't like being called facists...fine...then stop calling the left Communists and Marxists. The left finally publically calls them out and they can't handle the same crap they've been throwing out for years

Uhm from day 1, Everyone has been calling all Trump supporters names.
Their ears have long since turned off. Trying to engage them now after years of pushing them away is kinda futile.

I wasn't saying that he was trying to engage the Trump supporters. If someone is still a Trump supporter at this point I have no delusions about trying to convince them of the shitbag he is.

Trump's team is granted a special master for the documents seized at Mar-A-Lago.

There is a lot of "sky is falling" surrounding this ruling because the order seems to leave open the idea of Trump being able to claim executive privilege. However, the order specifies for congressional investigations. You cannot claim executive privilege against the executive branch as the concept of it is designed to privilege information of the executive branch from the other two.

For the record, expect an appeal. The order includes an injunction on the investigation which it is immediately appealable. Plus, there are questions surrounding the jurisdiction of the judge in this case as Trump's team judge shopped and this is not where the order originated for the search, which is where it should have been brought.

No. There is a pretty long list of both republicans and democrats who should already be in jail but they aren't. The elite class is above the law in this country for the most part.
