P&R Zombie Apocalypse Human Resource Inventory / Social Experiment
#1
Here is a fun little exercise where we can inventory one another's abilities and ideas for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Not only will it make our survivability factor increase, it will also serve as a social experiment to teach us about one another, gain respect for one another, and possibly gain an understanding of how differing peoples can come together for a common cause.

It will also be interesting to see if any sort of pecking order sorts itself out.
Big Grin

Anyway.... I propose we start out by listing what we bring to the table in skills.
You may start with just a few and add to your list, as we go.
Also, feel free to ask about others experiences in the skills they have listed.
I'm sure there will be a lot of 6'6" Navy Seals that we need to sort out...lol

After our usual suspects have listed their wares, we may propose situations and ask how people would handle that situation.
You can suggest using your own skills, or recommend others to take on a task.

My sole contribution would come through planning and team management.

Although I fear I would either be too trusting or outsiders or not trusting enough.  I believe in strength in numbers...but also that humans will turn on each other quite quickly when the time comes.

Edit: Just realized I said planning twice! LOL! Planning is important!

Planning is important.
Could you specify ?
Logistics ? Defense strategy ?

Both.

I believe in foresight and planning as much as possible.

I've shown an ability for assessing and processing situations quickly.  In my case here I already have the location scouted and what it would take to prep it quickly and efficiently to be a defensive stronghold for the long term.

Very nice.
In my area I have chosen a grain company to hold up in.
High vantage point, steel-reinforced concrete, rail-spur & waterway access, and plenty of corn.

I've read every issue of the Walking Dead.

Please you need teachers in the post apocalyptic world.

Excellent!

Mine has access to highway and mountain and is close to the rail line.  Enough natural cover to be ignored or missed by most too.  Some natural fauna, ground that could be cultivated and plenty of protection.  Very few windows, all doors swing out, all metal doors.  New roof too.  Lots of garage space and storage area.

It would take some work, but given even a slight heads up it would be fortified fairly quickly and then those walls could be expanded as needed.

Oh amen to that!  You need people who know how to DO things!

Oh hell where to begin...
Former army medic

Construction, both modern and primitive

Making traps and snare for both land and water

Primitive fire starting

Expert qualification in pistol, shotgun, m16, m60, and m249

Small unit tactics

Making (bolo, sling, and atlatl) and using (bolo, atlatl, bow, sling)primitive weapons

currently learning to build wind/water turbines

Some plant identification and usage.

Smoking and curing of meat

Land navigation

I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting but you get the idea. I got a lot of mostly useless knowledge for someone living in the modern world but would be damn handy when the SHTF.

Teachers are necessary, especially those who can really relate to youth.
Providing your capacity to learn other skills is up to par (which I'm sure it is, as you are a bright guy) you would be definitely be an asset to a community.
It might be hard to impress that on a small marauding band of survivors, but I'd wager if you illustrated the "big picture" they would come around.

Medic makes you an automatic and you have a bevy of other survival knowledge.
I'd really like to get into learning about the turbines.

BTW... I see you are in Frazeysburg, not to far from me in Coshocton.
In SHTF, we should be able to communicate via radio pretty easy.
Oh yeah, I forgot I have electrical/electronics experience too.
LOL

I'm eagerly awaiting Fred's list.

Interesting idea. I've seen similar things at teamwork building events. It's good to gauge yourself, get to know others and where they're coming from, and how people view themselves. I'll even go a step further and list something that would be the biggest detriment in ZA.

Soooo...

Proficient with a bow
Creative problem solving
Used to leading small teams dealing with large projects
Attention to detail
Outstanding cook (hey, somebody's got to make all the pork and beans taste good)
Avid backwoods camper
Can read aerial and topographical maps
Proficient in making crude animal traps (snares, pits, fish box)
Decent at construction

Edit: Forgot, I'm also fluent in ASL.

Back in the Draftcountdown days, we used to do drafts. Teams of beautiful women, bands and zombie apocalypse teams.
I think that could prove very interesting here.

I'm pretty sure that I'd outlive 99% of you if we were all just dropped off in the middle of the wilderness. I've backpacked for 12 straight days willingly, and I once camped out in my parents backyard because I got evicted from my apartment. It was in College Hill.....rough night.

If you need to use a skill when living outdoors, I have it. Other than swimming.....I can't do that. I am a proficient user of floaties though.

I went to school for Civil Engineering and Construction as well, and have worked in the field for a bit. I mainly stand near a tripod and use a pentel 0.5, but I do, on occasion, watch some of the construction guys build shit. I think I learned how to use an impact this way.

I was the president of the ASCE while in college, and I learned valuable skills such as making a canoe out of concrete, and a to-scale bridge out of balsa wood. Not that the canoe floated, or the bridge held up, but I saw what the winners did and believe that I can emulate that.

I'm the oldest of 6 Mormon children, and due to this, I can play piano and sing rather well. I'm sure that you'll all need entertainment from time to time.

I can read Chinese, so if we find some awesome weapons that have Chinese instruction manuals, I have your back.

Seriously...I'm a badass.
LFG

Let's see I've held a lot of different jobs.  So I'm kinda a Jack of a lot of trades.

Some of the more important ones:

US Navy:  Quartermaster (That's navigation not supply for you army guys out there), which means I'm confident I could skipper a boat to an island and not get us lost at sea.  I've had some small arms training, so I'm proficient there (but mind you I am not an expert)

After the navy I got certified as an EMT-basic.  So I've got first aid training

I also worked on an emergency psych unit for roughly 8yrs.   I'm pretty good at de-escalating situations pretty quickly. That could come in handy, since it's the other people you'll have to worry about more than the zombies.

Wasn't a job per-se but I was a boy scout, so I'm pretty comfortable outside, and fend for my self.

And through the years though all of it I have worked in a restaurant off and on either as primary income or supplemental since I was 14yo (I'm 41 now).  And have worked in just about every position there is in a restaurant, and am currently a bartender (started bartending when I was 21yo.)  So I'm not a bad cook, and I can make us some fantastic cocktails after a rough day of zombie slaying, or fending off bandits trying to steal our shit. Cheers
