Reds May 2024 thread
#81
This team doesn’t have the offense or consistency to compete for a playoff run. You’re dreaming if you think so.

Everyone of the players is trying to hit a home run every time at the bat, instead of making contact and moving the players over, or get a fly ball for an rbi.
These players are self centered and only think about what’s good for me and how do I get more money in the future.

I am sick and tired of Larkin sugar coating everything he says about the Reds hitters. He gives way to much credit to the other team for everything, and never anything negative about the Reds hitters and why they can’t hit.

I know managers manage and players play, but if this continues much longer how long of a leash does Bell get? There's GOTTA be a scapegoat, right?! Hitting coach should be sent down to Knothole / T-ball.

If Bell gets the boot, which Boone / Bell Jr. III-XV should get the job next?

Greene is over 70 pitches after 5 innings, and it's not the play-offs. Greene has had enough arm injuries in his short career. Get him out and make the bullpen earn their paychecks. Greene has Reds in the game, but it is up to Reds other players to win this in the later innings. Greene did his job.

One poster on here is correct. Reds need some batters to have 10 pitch at bats. This Arizona pitcher started 5th with a low pitch count. Those 3-2 counts and fouling off more pitches wears a pitchers rear end out.

GOOD. Reds hit a home run to tie and then a double. Wake the bats up. Need the bullpen to step up today also, as I said.

Bell left Greene in to start 6th. He walked 2 batters and Bell took him out. It's a very hot, humid day in Ohio. Greene was over 70 pitches after 5. Now reliever comes in, no outs and 2 ducks on the pond. I think Bell made mistake there, Greene had did his job for the day at end of 5. It's not the 7th game of the World Series, Bell. Martinez let's the ducks score, but I blame Bell, not Greene.

Reds bullpen is not as good as last year so far, and put Diaz right up there. Not as good as last year.

Bell managing the game sucks, no way he should have let Elle try to steal 3rd with no one out. Bell couldn’t manage a T-ball team. He needs to go.

Diaz lets in the go ahead run. Again, Reds bullpen is not as good as last year, and Diaz is not as good as last year.

Reds at bat in 8th. Ford gets on, Bell puts in base runner in Encarnacion. Bal hit to shallow Center fly out, thrown back to first base, Double Play. Worst base running I've ever seen. I don't care if he was trying to steal second, a fly ball out to center field should not be a double play to end the inning. High School teams play better fundamentals than these high paid slobs in MLB.

Reds lose 8 straight games. Barry Larkin says Reds are doing better, NO THEY ARE NOT. Yes, I meant to yell there. Todays game was awful. Reds ran themselves out of this game with just awful base running. Diaz choked again, and I had him in Fantasy Teams, but I've dropped him from all my Fantasy teams over last few weeks. He isn't getting it done this year, plain and simple. When Diaz lost opening game, Larkin said he hoped that wasn't a sign of things to come with Diaz. I wondered what Larkin had seen in Spring that had him concerned over Diaz. Larkin who will say Reds losing last 8 games are doing better, same Larkin was less positive early on about Diaz. It turns out Diaz has not been very good so far in 2024.

I think you mean Cruz, Diaz didn't pitch in this game.

Looking forward to 10 straight games on the West Coast.

I would be surprised if we net 3 wins in that road trip. I'm setting the bar low and I'm still worried I'm not going to hit the over haha.

Me too

We're going to be like 10 games out of first and 10 below .500 or more at end of May. And that's if we're lucky.

Watching Bell manage the Reds is like watching Marvin Lewis manage the Bengals for 17 years.

This team is not going any where with Bell as manager and player personnel selecting players for this team.

It’s time to move on and stop waiting time.

We will probably return from west coast road trip with an 18 game losing streak and the season will be over.

Yeah, I/we were mostly venting, not piling on your comment.

The main difference between this team and last years team is that this team had a bit of success early. We were in this same position last year, just a bit earlier. I remember Fairchild getting regular starting spots with a batting average well below .200 and that was because he was leading the team in barrel rate. Everybody sucked but he was the only one making serious contact so Bell said ''Screw it. He's the only one that's hitting the ball hard so leave him in there.'' Benson was hitting .050 when he was sent down after 11 games played.

Sad thing is, the pitching has been good enough to win games.  They very rarely get blown out.  I'd bad juju for team chemistry to waste solid to terrific starts.

I think this team made a major mistake not adding a RH power bat in the offseason.

There's no cavalry set to arrive like last season.

The most exciting thing happening right now is the upcoming MLB draft.

I'm actually wondering if they could be low key sellers if they don't recover by July.  The hole gets deeper every day.

I had a million things going on, could not waste day on a game.  What I saw, I thought it was Diaz blowing another game. You are right, it was a different bullpen guy blowing another game.  To those who say the pitching is good, no, the pitching is not good.

I did have a chance to see biggest bonehead play ever. One out in 8th, runner on first. Bell puts in a Pinch Runner. Ball hit to shallow center for easy fly out, and pinch runner gets thrown out at first base on a double play. A pinch runner mind you. A short fly out nobody runs on, and outfielder flips it to first for a Double Play ending 8th inning. This guy has no business being a pinch runner if he is that stupid. One of the worst mental mistakes of baserunning I have ever seen. Pee Wee teams run the bases better than that. Reds announcers said that on stealing second, you look to third base coach to see if you need to go back to first, and he didn't. I have never seen a runner slide into second and amazed the ball caught in shallow center, and he is an easy out as ball thrown to first base. You just don't see that, and this dude was a pinch runner. I have news for Reds, this dummy is no pinch runner. If I was Reds GM, this dude would be heading to minors or another team, he would not be on Reds the next day. Physical mistakes are one thing, but mental mistakes must be punished. I didn't see the running mistake by De La Cruz, but this pinch runner in the 8th was the worst mental running mistake I've ever seen. I've never seen a runner at second when the ball is caught in short center, and thrown back to first for an easy double play, I've never seen that until today. Of course Reds didn't win making bonehead plays like that. Did he come in game thinking there was 2 outs ? Why are you at second when the ball is caught in short center, not even that far out of infield. Who goes from first to second on that ? Reds need a GM who throws a chair down the hallway, and that player is either in the minors or on another team the next day.

The Reds are now 0 for May. What’s the over under for wins the rest of May? My guess is 7 or 8.

They may come back from that west coast trip 0-10 or 1-9.

The Reds are toast, this season is. Over, nice job Reds management.
