When is it ever?

I’m more apt to believe Dehner than a player’s agent. It doesn’t matter what the team has done in the past. In fact we should be praising the FO for trying to catch up to the rest of the league in contract language.

If Bengals are staying within the norms (at least 60% of NFL teams way of doing it), then good for them. If not, they are in thr worng and need to fix it.

He sounded really dumb blasting all the teams for not drafting earlier and not really mentioning his gratitude for the Bengals picking him. I said this in another thread, I'm starting to think he just doesn't want to be on this team.
He looked angry and was quiet. He was not excited.
Upon being interviewed right after walking onto the stage, he said something the lines of, "The other teams messed up not drafting me earlier."
From what I can remember, he did not really talk about how he was excited to be joining the Bengals, just mad he didn't get drafted sooner.
That's not really a guy I was overly excited joining the team, separate from my dislike of his lack of production in college.
He sounded unappreciative.
And before anyone looks up the post-draft interview where he's sitting at the table, that's not what I'm referring to. I'm referring to actually when he got his name called and walked onto the stage, being interviewed by I can't remember exactly who as he was about to walk offstage.

I have to think Burton last year may have impacted their decision into this, but I do wonder why this clause is being pushed for Stewart but not for other draft picks, or possibly it was and the other draft picks just signed anyway.

Does he think he is entitled to as much money as possible because of those 4.5 sacks or something? He is nothing more than a slightly high risk with slightly high reward first round pick, yet he is acting like he is the next coming of Lawrence Taylor or something where he doesn't need to practice.
That's my take today with him. In regards to the Bengals however, I can side with them on this but if the situation gets worse, then it's fair game to criticize them for drafting him in the first place.

So let’s set the record straight because many people have very short memories. These are the people that lead this organization through a painful period called the lost decade. These are the same people who draft and signed low character people which became a laughing stock to the world. Even late night comedians made fun of the organization. A Bengal doesn’t change his stripes and the front office play book is the same embarrassing script. The Browns and Blackburns can not develop a business relationship with anyone. They fight with Hamilton county, they fight with agents and they fight with the players. Turmoil is their comfort and yet they have no plan on getting the organization their first Lombardi. Slam Stewart all you want. He may be a blathering idiot for all I know. But his quote that this front office would rather win an argument as opposed to winning on the field was so on the point. It is amazing the blind support the fan base gives to the blackburns and browns. They could give two shits about winning this on the field

Joe Goodberry spoke to Shemar's Agent, did some research and explains it all.
Summary:
---Issue is about a potential "non-football issue" causing a player to default, but the difference is the player default would cause ALL guarantees in the contract to be voided as guaranteed not just the year of the default.
---This is NOT a Bengal FO unique contract language, but would be the first time the Bengals applied it.
---Several teams put this language in EVERY contract.
---Approx. 20 other teams use this kind of language.
---Shemar Stewart is getting bad advice in terms of behaviors, speaking to media, lack of practicing

The clause is not unreasonable and his agent and father are approaching this literally the wrongest way possible. Also remember a red flag teams had on Stewart was this agent.
