I have no idea what those tropes would be.
The benglas get media coverage inline with what they are. A historically bad franchise with 0 super bowl wins, they have had small windows of success, who currently have some great offensive pieces and a lot of deficiencies.

Yep.
For the most part, Bengals are a franchise that had teams making playoffs but very few playoff wins.
Seasons with 1+ playoff wins:
1981 (2-1, lost SB)
1988 (2-1, lost SB)
1990 (1-1, lost divisional rd)
2021 (3-1, lost SB)
2022 (2-1, lost AFCCG)
When the franchise goes back to 1968 and 57 seasons, only 5 seasons with 1+ playoff wins, 0 SB wins, and only 10 playoff wins total really does not look good when
compared to many of the other franchises.
I still have optimism for Burrow and Chase to bring home the trophy, but I may start losing hope if they go another 2-3 years not getting back to deep in the postseason again in that time.
I can't believe we're stuck in this.
We have a window to win a Super Bowl and we need to improve the defense so we don't still get outscored when we score 30 points a game.
The pass rush is even more important because teams will need to throw to try and keep up with us.
Like I always say, I thought Mike Brown's cheap way of doing things was over but I guess not................

I don't think it's that big of a deal. It's not like he's going to get any sacks this year anyway.
17 of 32 1st round picks are signed, and it's May 20th.
I think it will be ok. He also only gets like 1 sack per year, so...

He needs to rest up so he has plenty of energy for the real season!!!

This is the first time in forever I can remember anything like this and doing things like building the practice facility and hiring two scouts (I know we lost one) gave me hope that we were passed all the bullshit, but I guess.............

I don't blame the Bengals for the Hendrickson situation. That one is complicated. But the Shemar situation? Freaking embarrassing. What are we evening doing here? Just get the deal done. Cheapness is a disease that the Brown family simply cannot shake. Sometimes perception is reality, and it's reality here.
They tried to hoodwink everyone by paying Joe, Tee, and Chase and say "look we're not cheap!" . But guess what, everyone can pay players. They have to. It's part of the rev share program. BFD. Look at their front office, look at their nepotism, look at everything. They are cheap billionaires who still think they need to run this thing like it's 1991.
It's exhausting.
Maybe the bengals are having drafting remorse, after realizing The 0 to 1 Sacks per year Shamar produces in the NFL are not worth 1st round money. Oops!
Again, they have no idea who they drafted. No meetings outside of the combine is an unacceptable situation.
There aren't any times where this would be ok, even if it was a slam dunk prospect.....especially not when its a guy with immense physical talent and no production. Upuve got to find out what drives him, his interest, his family situation, literally everything as you are about to invest multi years and millions into him. They did none of that.
He could be a complete problem and they would have no way of knowing.

Except that’s not how it works. First round money is slotted. Per the current CBA.
They are arguing about injury clauses, etc. it’s very stupid and very on brand for the bengals.

14 first rounders still have not signed their contracts. That's a little less than half. So not just a Bengals thing.

I know its not how it works.
But, maybe the cheap and always scared bengies dont want to sign him after-all. Buyers remorse!
Oh No! We accidentally drafted a edge rusher who does not sack the QB in the 1st round. We need to get away from this contract, lol.

The money Mike saves on injury clauses will put new tires on the Lumina, maybe fresh wiper blades too.

Might even cover the lunch tip at Blue Ash Chili.
It's nickel and diming over a measly rookie contract by the Bengals, sure.
With that said, the narrative on Stewart is that he needs all the reps he can get to succeed early, as the Bengals will almost assuredly use poor performance early in his rookie contract as a reason to lower any potential offer for next contract.
Him being able to come in as a rookie and get 5+ sacks and then 8+ next year will go a long way in killing the narrative against him.

Just throwing this out there...
2024 Rookies who got 5+ sacks: 3
2023 Rookies who got 5+ sacks: 5
2022 Rookies who got 5+ sacks: 3
2022-2024 Rookies who got 10+ sacks: 0

Yep, and Stewart was the 3rd Edge taken in the draft, so it would be good for him to be in the list or very close.
I don't expect any rookie to get 10+ sacks, but 5 seems reasonable.
