  ESPN Playoff Simulator
Posted by: rfaulk34 - 12-11-2023, 11:22 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (23)

Did a little simulating and these are some things i came up with. I only predicted relevant games to the AFC playoffs. D = defeat.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/playoffs/machine

Week 14: Dolphins win
Week 15: Beng D Vikes, Colts D Steel, Lions D Broncs, Dolph D Jets, Tex D Tit, Browns D Bears, Chiefs D Pats, Cows D Bills, Jags D Ravens
Week 16: Beng D Steel, Bills D Charg, Tex D Browns, Colts D Falc, Jags D Bucs, Cows D Dolph, Broncs D Pats, Chiefs D Raid, 49ers D Ravens
Week 17: Browns D Jets, Rav D Dolph, Bills D Pats, Colts D Raid, Jags D Panth, Tex D Tit, Hawks D Steel, Beng D Chiefs, Bronc D Charg
Week 18: Rav D Steel, Beng D Browns, Colts D Tex, Chiefs D Charg, Raid D Bronc, Dolph D Bills, Jags D Tit,

That makes the playoffs look like this.

If i go back to week 17 and change the Bengals v Chiefs to a loss, it knocks the Bengals out of the playoffs.

If i also change the week 16 Colts v Falcons to a loss for the Colts, it looks like this.

And if i change the Bengals v Chiefs back to a Bengals win and change the week 18 Broncos v Raiders to a Denver win, it goes back to the Miami #1 seed scenario above.

There are so many scenarios, that i stopped changing outcomes to see what it would take for the 'Bengals to make it if' because there were so many changes by simply altering one game from above, in any given week. It's gonna be an insane ending to the season...

Why is Joe Mixon under appreciated?
Posted by: Luvnit2 - 12-11-2023, 06:55 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (139)

Joe Mixon rarely fumbles (please don't jinx him) in his 1788 career touches. He runs with high legs, in. my opinion is why he is easier to trip up versus runners who run normally. But, he can do some amazing things taken for granted, how many one handed catches has he made to help our QB. Yesterday, they lined him up closer to the LOS and he made an amazing jump/cut to get a first down. I think he better suited for a QB under center, but not his decision.

Rush Attempts. Rushing Yards. Yards Per Attempt. TD's. Receptions
1,515 6,146. 4.1. 47 273

I will call myself out, I was one who said cut him or get him to take a pay cut. He did take the cut and he runs as hard or harder than ever. Let's give Joe some love, many players would have pouted and had a bad year, but Joe is quietly having another good year in a pass offense.

Remaining Games Prediction And Playoff Chances
Posted by: BFritz21 - 12-11-2023, 06:44 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (18)

I know the week's not offer yet but tonight's games really have no impact on our playoff chances, so I figured I'd see what everyone thinks of our remaining schedule and our playoff chances. It helps that we're facing a few backups in the final few games, and I originally was hoping that we'd lose as many as possible so we could draft highly so we could take Bowers at tight end, but now I'm just hoping that we finish strong and make the playoffs, because now it would be a waste to win our way out of drafting early if we're not going to make a run at anything.

It's crazy that we're even talking about the possibility of making the playoffs, but here we are.

Remaining games:

Week 15 against the Vikings.

The Vikings will be on their third-string QB after Cousins got hurt and Dobbs got benched. I think our crowd gets into it and we take them down.

Week 16 against the Steelers.

Another team with an injury to their quarterback and, even if he comes back for our game, what are the odds he's 100% and we could come into Pittsburgh on fire.

Pickens seems upset and let's just hope the entire locker room is in a storm and we can knock them off.

I think we win there.

At Chiefs.

Mahomes seemed to be going crazy and just didn't seem like he was on his A game. It's going to be tough and I think we could win, especially if they really have the kind of turmoil that it seems like they're having lately, but let's give them a W.

Week 18 when the Browns come to town.

With the home crowd going nuts, I think we get revenge on the Browns and win pretty easily.

That would leave us at 10-7.

Do you agree with my predictions? Do you think 10-7 gets us in?

  We need a new punter
Posted by: 007BengalsFan - 12-11-2023, 02:55 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (86)

Robbins is just not getting the job done. Yesterday he one punt that went 19 yards, another punt that went 31 yards, one that went 43. His "long" punt of the day went 52 yards but he actually only punted the ball in the air close to 35 yards where the punt was so short the punt returner couldnt run up to it fast enough for a fair catch so it hit the ground and rolled another 17 yards. This guy is just not helping the team. Im not buying the whole "he doesnt have a bunch of return yards" excuses. When you have a punter that doesnt have a strong enough leg to consistently kick the ball more that 38 yards, of course he isnt going to have a bunch of return yards

The underlying truth of the matter.....
Posted by: Sled21 - 12-11-2023, 01:35 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (105)

Burrow went down and Browning came in, and the team has put up over 30 points in each of the last two weeks. The running game is now seemingly working, although neither Jax nor Indy are particularly good against the run. Some people are saying they changed the scheme (they didn't). Browning is definitely not better, or even in the same category, with Burrow. So, what is it?

Notice when Browning went out with this thumb cramp, what did McCarron do? He came in and threw a touchdown pass to Higgins.

The simple fact of the matter is really just that Zac and Duke have put together a really good football team from the top of the roster to the bottom. Vets are out there hustling and not mailing it in, rookies are playing their asses off and shining. The team supports each other and no personality clashes, no divas, no drama. Heck, DJ Turner was wearing neon green cleats that supported Mike Thomas' charity during the "My cleats, my cause" game. This is just a really good football team that is really well coached. They are going to be good for a long time with as young as they are.

Shotgun vs. Under Center and our effectiveness
Posted by: bengalfan74 - 12-11-2023, 01:23 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (13)

First off, Joe Burrow is our QB 1,000% this is not a post about Jake Browning taking over in any way shape or form, squash that.

Secondly, I realize all the play station kids, analytics, stat geeks will be heated and post lists of stats. I don't care

This offense has shown an effectiveness, a chemistry, an ability, these last two games we haven't seen much. There's a flow, a chemistry to this O that's just missing in the all shotgun O a lot of the time !! Sure when the shotgun is firing on all cylinders it's great. Joe Burrow can carve some teams up.

But when teams with a great pass rush face off against us and play two deep safeties we struggle, sometimes a lot !! What's missing ? the running game and playaction. I can remember I think it was Ryan Clark talking about how defenses have it much easier facing shotgun and especially empty sets. They know what's coming. Our screen games rarely gets much out of shotgun. Mixon can't run out of shotgun. Perhaps Chase Brown will change that ?

I'm just hoping when we get Burrow back they don't go back to basically all shotgun sets !! We started doing a bit of under center before Joe got hurt but it was still just here and there.

We need to be like at least 60% shotgun 40% under center, or 65% SG 35% UC. We have to get more balance in our offense for several reasons.

My biggest question of all is how sustainable is the all shotgun O long term. Can JB survive healthy for ten more seasons without some running game, some play action?? Some effective screen game. Him not having to carry the load getting sacked out the wazoo.

Learn from this ZT and the brain trust that calls the O.

I think we need to win out to make playoffs
Posted by: Luvnit2 - 12-11-2023, 12:38 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (31)

It is great to see the team show they can win games with Joe Burrow out. Browning has been amazing and the OL seems to be starting to gel after 13 games through 13 games. The problem making it into the playoffs is we have a bad AFC conference record. It is the reason we are 10th right now even tied with a bunch of other teams with 7-6 record.

Of the 7-6 teams, Denver has best shot at winning out to go 11-6. Browns need 3 of 4 to go 11-6. That leaves one spot among:
1. Steelers - we play them and need a win
2. Colts
3. Texans
4. Bills

The good news is we have proven we can beat the best teams so we have a shot, but we need to go at least 3-1 and hope 2 teams and hope teams above go 2-2. There are other scenarios, but if we win out, we should make it.
