  The New Bengals Expectation
Posted by: Luvnit2 - 08-03-2015, 09:15 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (21)

It was not long ago (7 to 10 years ago) the Bengals had to rely on at least one or 2 draft picks to start immediately due to average to poor talent on the roster. In addition, it appeared we always had guys show up out of shape and not ready to work day one of camp.

It is refreshing to see our team progress and show up in impressive shape. Whittworth as usual leads by example and comes in at 307. Big Andre Smith comes into camp in great shape. Adam Jones, Eifert, Jones, AJ, Hill, Dunlap,Clarke, Hall, Dre and many others. Geno looks like a beast and is awesome shape.

I know we have been better for years, but I never take anything for granted. I applaud the FO for hiring/retaining this group, the coaches for setting the standard and of course the players who work their tails off in the off season (their vacation) to be ready.

This team deserves some good luck and fortune to match the talent to help them start winning playoff games and ultimately the Super Bowl.

Look around the league at all of the players inactive due to poor conditioning, the Bengals are of one of the best coming into camp ready. This was not the case not long ago.

  Trey Hopkins to center
Posted by: RoyleRedlegs - 08-02-2015, 01:48 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (10)

Sounds like the Bengals are working 2nd year UDFA OL Trey Hopkins in at center with the #2s. Rotating he and TJ Johnson.

If he can pick it up, that would be huge for our depth at center (non-existent) and he could push for a starting gig.

He's very talented and a good mover. Blocks well in space and has good size.

I thought he would have been the LG of the future if Boling didn't re-sign here.

Bengals make it to training camp with no off Field Issues. Congratz
Posted by: Lqhybrid25 - 08-02-2015, 01:15 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (8)

Don't know if anyone posted this.
Think about it. Every off season something has happened. Maybe a minor scuffle or something worse. This year nothing.
No distractions just football.

Keep it up boys!!

What is Wilder doing in training camps so far
Posted by: fredtoast - 08-02-2015, 12:54 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (1)

Lot of offseason buzz about the Bengals moving him to fullback or H-back.

Where has he been lining up, and how have they been using him so far?

Maualuga's injury may give Nico Johnson a chance
Posted by: fredtoast - 08-02-2015, 12:52 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (10)

I don't think Ray's injury is very bad. And I don't think NIco will take his job. But even if the injury just limits Maualuga's playing time in training camp it will give Nico a chance to show what he has

Lengthy article, but here are the highlights.

. . . Johnson picked up a ball, jumped up without taking any steps and dunked the ball with two hands.

"That was my first time dunking in a long time, and I was thinking like, 'Dang, my legs haven't felt this good in awhile," said Johnson, a significant contributor at Alabama from 2009-12 who now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.

To Johnson, this is the best he has felt physically since he was a senior at Alabama as he prepares to compete for a roster spot and a role with the Bengals,

Johnson drafted in the 4th round in 2013, but he was recovering from surgery for a sports hernia before his rookie season. Last off season he was recovering from an ankle injury.

Johnson played in all 12 of the Bengals' remaining games after being signed off the Kansas City practice squad. Johnson started twice in place of injured middle linebacker Rey Maualuga and had 10 tackles during a November game against the Cleveland Browns.

But not all of Nico's problems were physical. Here is what he said about his own self-evaluation of his play for the Bengals

"That was probably the most miserable, difficult time of my career as far as football," Johnson said. "I didn't know what to do. I was frustrated with myself. I was frustrated with my teammates. I was frustrated with my coaches. I was just frustrated all the way around. But then it came to the last two weeks I was there, and I self-evaluated. I sat down and watched film from my rookie year. I watched film from camp that year, and I wasn't playing like I was capable of.

"So I went back and watched film from when I was at Alabama, and it looked like two totally different players, and I couldn't help to blame myself. I've got to take responsibility because I wasn't making the plays that they're putting me out there to make. Pretty much, when that came to, I just let all of that anger and frustration go and just said that I'm going to get better."

Who thinks he might make the final 53 man roster?

Starts at 3:00 today (Sunday)

They spend a lot of time on each team. They get into in depth issues. I will be working outside today, but I am recording it to watch later. Really looking forward to it.
