Marvin will "walk away" if Bengals win SB |

Marvin Lewis has a vision involving the Super Bowl, Mike Brown, a trophy presentation and a stroll into the sunset. In that order. Lewis doesn’t say it will happen this year. He doesn’t say it won’t. He does say he’s not joking about the sunset.
“I want to hand Mike the trophy, then just walk away,’’ the Bengals coach declared at the team’s annual Weenie Roast And Mock Turtle Soupfest, also known as the pre-training camp media day.
Easier said than done, on all counts. Lewis swears he could walk away. Brown and Lewis swear that this could be the Bengals' year.
“We’re a pretty good team. I think we can give a good account of ourselves,’’ Brown said, in his formal and delicate way. No one else speaks quite like Mike. When someone asked him about the Bengals playoff drought, Brown said, “We haven’t driven the nail home. It doesn’t please me.’’
Lewis made it simpler: “We’re good enough, but we have to play good enough.’’

Atkins is Returning to BEAST MODE! |

Apparently, according to this article, Geno Atkins is looking like an absolute MACHINE!
He's impressing Guenther and getting him excited, and what stood out to me was this quote:
Quote:Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins tore his ACL on Halloween night in 2013. Rather than training and improving, Atkins was forced to rehabilitate throughout the ensuing offseason.
That does make a lot of sense and now he can concentrate on things like technique, endurance, defensive moves, and the different names, like daddy, that he's going to make Big Ben call him after he drives him into the turf.
I'm also excited because MJ back, along with Dunlap producing like last year (I actually expected a bigger year this year even before this Geno news because he looked like it was finally clicking last season), and even Hardison shooting the A gap should just make our pass rush absolutely sick, especially with Geno back to his one-man wrecking crew status.
This was the best news I've heard in a while!

Mike Brown: Lack of honoring former players 'probably my fault' |

Pleas for the Bengals to do more in honoring former players have not fallen on deaf ears. Mike Brown admitted on Tuesday he is reconsidering some type of way to honor past players around Paul Brown Stadium after years of resistance to the concept.
The Bengals are the only team in the NFL not to have a hall of fame, ring of honor, statues or annual ceremonies to celebrate former players.
"I understand the players," Brown said at the team's annual media luncheon. "They want to be remembered. I think it is a good thing to do that. We have never traded here on nostalgia. That's probably my fault. Because a little of it is a good thing. Fans like that sort of thing. What I'm saying is I'm stewing on it. I'm aware of the discomfort with our position."

Palmer has apparently answered the question a lot of us have been wondering for nearly five years: why did you leave the Bengals? Many thought it had a lot to do with the fan base. It appears as if that wasn't the case:
Palmer’s exit has been well documented. He demanded a trade before the 2011 season with four years left on his deal and sat out until they shipped him to Oakland in October and the Bengals haven’t missed the playoffs since. Palmer wasn’t happy with what he called “a lack of offseason moves,’ during his tenure, although the same administration has built a team that has averaged 10 wins since they drafted Andy Dalton to replace him.
“The Bengals have phenomenal fans. Everybody thought I had a problem with the fans,” Palmer says. “That was the biggest misconception. I get back to Cincinnati three times a year. I take my kids hunting there. I loved it there. There was only one thing. I had ideas on ways we could improve and ownership didn’t agree and that was the end of it.”
Well there we have it. Question answered... Although I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there were more to it that Carson's not telling us.

James Wright being released is shocking. Maybe his concussions are a series issue.
Kid looked good. Surprised they didn't keep him around for a camp body.
it was from Bleacher Report who is quoting tweets.

#Bengals have released James Wright as waived/injured. If clears waivers will revert to IR list.
So I was right. They are trying to IR him.

Chad on the Dalton situation.
“I’m sick of these (people) talking about Andy Dalton,” says Johnson, still vacuuming every Twitter morsel.
“I know you want to win, now. Dude, he’s young. Give me a break. You get to the playoffs every year. Wild card or not. Going home or not. The fact is they’re going to be there every year. And he’s going to get it done. Trust me. Everybody is impatient. Oh, ‘He’s losing.’ Or, ‘He plays poorly.’ With experience comes better decision making. And he will get (it) done. Wait. It’s coming.”
“Being a Bengals fan right now, you know you’re a lock for the playoffs every year. And that’s a great feeling just coming in,” Johnson says. “We’re getting to the playoffs no matter what. Getting over that hump is the next step. I’m really content with knowing that come January we’re going to have a game to play and we have a chance. That’s great from before, knowing once December came you’re going home. That’s great.”
... I don't mean to instigate more Dalton fueds ... but child please!

Coley Harvey-
With more than a dozen key players eligible for free agency after this season, the Cincinnati Bengals will soon be confronted with several important personnel decisions.
Some of those decisions could be made during training camp. Others might not come until March.
To give you an idea of just how the Bengals might approach re-signing or extending the players who are entering contract seasons, we're spending this week looking at a number of issues regarding the team's free-agency philosophy.
We started Monday by asking how valuable receiver A.J. Green is to the franchise.
We continue by taking a look at the way the Bengals will pay him and other upcoming free agents:
Bengals will stick with rollover formula...

The discussion was on why the Bengals have been getting blown out in second halves of the 4 playoff games and I found these statistics to be interesting:
Quote:At halftime, the Bengals trailed by three points or less twice, led by three against San Diego and were within a touchdown in the first Houston game. Yet, in the third quarters of the playoff games, they called 32 passes to 17 runs. Last year against Indianapolis, Hue Jackson passed nine times and ran four. Whether turning back to the running game serves as the answer or the imbalance can be attributed to a general freak out, clearly an adjustment must be made to sustain drives coming out of halftime.
Quote:In 24 second-half possessions, the Bengals have turned it over eight times, or 33.3 percent of the time. That's astounding. Conversely, the defense has forced exactly zero turnovers in 22 second-half possessions by Houston, San Diego and Indianapolis.
Quote:A total of 17 NFL teams have played at least two playoff games in the last four years. Of those, the second-half stats prove how dreadful the Bengals have been after halftime compared to the rest. Cincinnati ranks dead last among those teams in the following offensive categories:
Yards per play: 4.26
First down percentage: 23.8 percent
Touchdowns per game: 0
Percentage of pass plays: 77 percent (tied w/ Detroit)
Worst passer rating in second half of playoff games last four years (min 20 attempts)
Andy Dalton, Cincinnati: 43.1
T.J. Yates, Houston: 54.2
Matt Stafford, Detroit: 67.5
Matt Ryan, Atlanta: 69.4
Andrew Luck, Indianapolis: 71.3
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh: 81.8
Bengals' average yards allowed per rush last four years
Regular season: 4.07
Playoffs: 4.72

I've always said it would be helpful if the vaunted defense that seems to be the reason we make the playoffs every year would be able to generate turnovers, which are critical in playoff games. Especially given how bad we have been in turning the ball over ourselves. Also, why have we been so reliant on the passing game if they don't trust Dalton? Is it because they've trusted the running game even less?
