  Do we see starters tonight?
Posted by: PhilHos - 09-03-2015, 12:48 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (16)

Historically, Marvin Lewis has done what your average coach does with his starters in preseason. Game 1, starters play a series or two and sit. Game 2, starters play the first QTR. Game 3, starters play the first half and the first series of the 2nd half. Game 4, starters play a series or two.

With that said, this has not been a traditional preseason. Game 1 was the usual. But game 2 the starters played almost the first half due to their crappy level of play. Game 3, Dalton played only a series, but I think the rest of the starters only played the first half.

So, does Lewis go back to usual with only a series for the starters? Does he go full on conservative and not even play the starters? Does he try to give Dalton a little more work and give him a couple series?

Thoughts? And what would YOU do in this situation?

  Oakland: Concerned?
Posted by: clevelandsdad - 09-02-2015, 06:18 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (89)

New here, thanks for having me!

When the average NFL fan of a good NFL team see's a game with Oakland on the schedule, they usually circle that one as the game I might be able to miss for work, family etc. Even as a Bengals fan, I always feel good about playing them.

But like every year, Week 1 provides an air of uncertainty. This year, I believe it is accentuated with young Derek Carr seemingly budding, his new plethora of weapons (Cooper, Crabtree), and the human heat-seeking missile Khalil Mack. History also doesn't seem to favor us in Oakland, although I don't believe that matters too much.

As a Bengals fan, is there reason for genuine concern for this matchup? We definitely have a better roster, and better matchups across the field. But I'm always afraid of that Week 1 upset.

Simple question. Answer the poll.

Hill Takes The Blame For Andy's Injury!
Posted by: BFritz21 - 09-01-2015, 05:15 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (29)

How can you not love this kid?!

Now, he's saying that it's his fault that Andy was injured on the QB sneak because he (Hill) should have gotten in the end zone when he had three attempts:

Quote:"That goes back to me," Hill said. "If I get in there obviously we don't even put Andy in that situation. Obviously he's fine but you don't want to put your quarterback in that situation."

"I just had to get in there. There wasn't any debating it. Three times – I can't remember the last time that's happened to me. Maybe one doesn't work, but the second time I know I'm going to get in there. I'm glad it happened now rather than in the season where we probably kick a field goal or something like that. I'm glad it happened."

The thing about this is that he's said things like this before, and it's just him growing, being motivated, and being a leader by knowing that he has to put this team on his shoulders.

That last one is what really gets me pumped up because you can tell he's not just saying these things to be a gain spotlight by making a splash with his comments, it's just he knows what he has to do and he's accepting it without wanting to be glorified for it.

This kid is going to be GREAT for us this year!

  Cap management
Posted by: djs7685 - 09-01-2015, 02:26 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (16)

Let's talk about one thing that the Bengals have undeniably been good at, with some luck thrown in of course.

In 2015, the Bengals are currently paying out the least dead money in the entire league with an astounding $930,087. We're the only team under $1 million. Only 6 teams are under $5 million. Over half of the league is paying out $10 million or more.

We haven't had to release many players in the middle of their contracts due to poor performance or severe injury. Some may argue that we should or should have, but the fact is there that the Bengals rarely sign a contract that ends up being a "bad deal".

2015 - 32nd
2014 - 32nd
2013 - 25th
2012 - 19th
2011 - 16th

Now, those numbers can be slightly misleading as the Bengals actually had less in dead money in 2011 ranked 16th than they did in 2013 when they were ranked 25th. It just so happened that most teams in the league were in pretty good shape in 2011 as far as their contracts were going. As of right now, the Bengals highest amount of dead money has been around $8.1 million over a 5 year span, with the number usually much lower.

I guess this is just a "who dey!" to management for doing something right that almost everybody should be able to agree upon. I can't see many ways this could be twisted to be a bad thing.

Geno's Facebook page just said he got engaged!!

His profile pic has him down on one knee proposing and looks like it's overlooking the city.

Congrats to Geno and perfect timing as he's back into his All-Universe BEAST-MODE!

Going to be a hell of a year for Geno, the team, and us fans!

  Drafted Starters
Posted by: Okeana - 09-01-2015, 10:42 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (36)

Something I hadn't really realized is just how many of our guys on our roster were drafted by us. In fact the only two guys on our main starting roster not drafted by us is Pacman and Nelson. This isn't taking into account rotational guys or special teams, but its kind of crazy that one of the deepest rosters in the nfl was obtained almost entirely in the draft and non drafted free agents. Is this more common in the NFL than I realize or are we an anomaly ?

I know this is something that has been talked about at length, but do you think Marvin Lewis has a future as a GM rather than coach with results like this and do you believe he would be a better GM than coach ?

  PFF #3, Late
Posted by: Truck_1_0_1_ - 08-31-2015, 11:40 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (25)

Sorry for the lateness, folks, I wanted to watch the game before posting... and now I have! Defense were studs, both our QBs looked great, but as usual, people overrate because they hate Andy... Anyways, grades are as follows:

Top 5 on O:

1. Toasted Macarron with a +3.2. He looked great indeed, with some great throws. Nothing else to say, really.

2. Boling with a +1.9. Great pulling all night long. Good bounceback from Tampa.

3. Andy with a +1.8. Also looked great, made every throw and ran well too. Nothing else to stay either.

4. Winston with a +1.7. What a G; hard blocking, boss on that screen, the best 3rd tackle in the game.

5. Gio-van with a +1.3. Lovely job again, but don't put him back here on punts, please?

Top 3 on Chi-town:

1. Matt Slauson +2.0
2. Hroniss Grasu +1.6
3. Vladimir Ducasse +0.7

Bottom 5 on O:

Hawkinson -1.8 (wow, he's completely lost it)

O'Donnell -2.3 (would've loved to have seen him make the team, but no chance now)

France -2.5 (useless)

Uzomah -3.4 (rough night blocking, but we know he's not a blocker)

Fisher -9.0 (Comedy of errors)

Top 5 on D:

1. Vinnie Rey +2.1. He looked much better this time 'round, though still nothing special.

2. Hardison +1.3. Nice batted pass, great motor as usual.

3. Geno with a +0.9. He's (still) baaaaaaack.

4. Iloka with a +0.8. Great job by George, he had some great tackles on run plays.

5. Nelson with a [b+0.8[/b]. Identical snap count, identical tackles, identical grade. Also had some great tackles.

Top 3 for Chi-Town:

1. Willie Young +4.5
2. David Carter +1.5
3. Kyle Fuller +1.4

Bottom 5 on D:

Keo -0.3 (cut him)

Roach -0.4 (PS him)

Adam Jones -0.5 (teach him... to not facemask)

Peko -0.6 (keep him... for only this year)

Flowers -1.3 (what the hell was that? Turrible)

On teams, Burkhead, Peerman, Huber and Tate were tops, Hardison, PJ and Keo (no surprise) were at the bottom.

Can't wait to see the backups this week! Big Grin
