Today is the day. We are knee deep into week 1 and the only other hold out with no offseason work is Reddick and no one believes if he shows up tomorrow he'll play Sunday. It isn't realistic, and with the high injury risk none of us should want Chase to play Sunday. None of us.
It's just too late for week 1, if he doesn't practice today.
different positions but Chris Jones of the Chiefs played week 3 last season with hardly no training camp or practice time

Lots of guaranteed money.
Bengals will continue to struggle to sign stars if they don't evolve in their contract structures. It was an issue with Bates, Tee, and now Chase.

Only a few weeks to squeeze in contract negotiations. Ever wonder why guys aren't signed during the summer ever? It's because the FO is literally not even working.
The buzz is that the Bengals FO thought the JJ deal was an outlier, so they waited until Lamb and Aiyuk signed to confirm that's the market for a high end WR1 before really coming to the table.

I thought the buzz was that the Bengals wanted to sit down earlier this spring but Chase's team wanted to wait to see how Lamb and others played out?

Pretty much just Chase and Parsons left as far as players of note from that draft class. Mike and Jerry sure are two peas in a pod.

Which is funny because Mike and Jerry hate each other! Or at least Jerry hates Mike!

I'm surprised Micah Parsons didn't do same thing Chase is doing.

I'm suprised Chase didn't do what Parsons did; If Chase signs this week then he is costing himself money in the long run.
That's what makes this whole situation so frustrating is that if the Bengals sign Chase it actually helps them spread his cap hits out. Chase is giving them a gift that they refuse to take.

If Chase sits out games and Higgins balls out...
I could see a scenario where Chase is traded in the offseason, and Higgins gets the deal the Bengals are offering Chase right now.
And Chase will be the highest paid WR playing for the Carolina Panthers.

If we don't win a superbowl on chase's rookie contract I would suggest to say how's giving him a ton of money going to make it any different for us later?
So I'm banking we win a superbowl in the next few years; so give him his 4 year deal now, after that, he's going to walk probably - if we didn't win a SB by then, it's only going to handicap us, if we did win one, he's going to demand even more money.
Does Mike Brown care about winning a superbowl more than managing the long term health of the franchise? Should we strike when the iron is hot.

He’ll play

Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

He actually played week 2. However, that situation is already different.
He signed the contract Monday, and practiced Tuesday. Then he played on average 40% of the snaps in week 2 & 3, compared to his season average of ~80% of defensive snaps.

I know Chase said he wanted to wait on JJ, but I don't remember him saying anything about Lamb and Aiyuk.

That was one of the reasons given earlier that JC is acting such as he is:
First, it was him being a great teammate and giving the younger kids more reps
Then it was him being a great athlete and listening to his body
Then it was the Vikings and JJ's fault
Then it was Dallas and CeeDee's faults
Now it's Cincy FO's fault
Guess whose fault it never has been:

It's 100% Chase's decision to hold in. I don't think anyone has claimed otherwise.
It's just that some people understand that decision and others don't.

The ideal story for him is for Burrow to struggle against the pats, everyone in the media talks about burrow is not healthy, he is not the same - then ja'marr signs and goes for 250 against chiefs and burrow throws for 400.
The Pats game could be a lot closer than people think if Chase doesn't play.
The Pats have an elite young CB in Christian Gonzales. Higgins struggles against upper tier CB's and can't really be moved around, so the Pats can effectively lock him down all game long with Gonzales. That means we're going to find out real quick if Yoshi, Irwin, Jones, and Burton can carry the load. A few picks from miscommunication with the young receivers or forcing it to Tee out of frustration could make it rough.

That's a horrible story for Chase. If he sits out and they lose, then miss the playoffs by one game, he will be forever tainted.

Chase is AT the practices, so while he may not get the reps, he would be there for the install.
