Scott Peters OL coach

Not THE Mike MacCarthy is his assistant, also coming from the Patriots

I think I remember Scott Peters playing, was he on the Eagles back in the day?

I like hearing about his hand fighting background and martial arts. McNally saying great things about this guy as well.

This is a great grab for OL coach I think. Smirk

The Patriots allowed the 5th most sacks but were 13th rushing/13th rushing ypc in 2024.

I hope this guy turns out to be a good hire. Don't need more sacks, but an improved run game would be greatly appreciated.

Just gotta cross our fingers. We really need our OL coach to teach technique and the mental part as we have had historical issues with the interior line missing stunts and such.

I like it considering the talent Peters had to work with was less than stellar to say the least. Add a couple IOL for Peters to work with and
we could be in a lot better spot than glass eating Pollack.

Hopefully that interior of the OL is no longer with us next year.

we dont know about "schemes"..as long as our line does not get pushed around like a bunch of arthritic grandmas we should be fine

wrong..if these players don't have technique down pat by the time they come to the NFL ..ain't nothing gonna change that..we needed a new voice ..and now we need two interior offensive linemen

I even preemptively said it was entirely unfair! You tell me an OL is doing MMA, and I am going to think of that absurd hype cycle that happened.

If I told you a player was going back to their Olympic Training routine, are you going to tell me you wouldn't think of Margus Hunt? Lol... there's just some random offseason hype topics that have been ruined for me by prior things.

If we get some player that're really into building scale models to help finger dexterity or practice having a steady hand or something, and we get an article about it called "Model Model" you're going to roll your eyes so hard.

Yeah, hopefully we add some good talent this offseason to give him some good building materials to start his task with of building us a great OL. I'm sure he didn't have a ton to work with in New England last year, so still having a good run game can make one hopful.

Speaking of the Pats injury plagued o-line last year, I came across this response from a Pats fan during the season:

"Aside from Onwenu the Pats are exclusively playing waiver wire, practice squad and Olive Garden employee linemen. It's not coaching that's the problem."

True, so much hype to look back on from the old days. Hobspin is the worst. I like Scott Peters though the more I read up on him.

Just cannot sabotage the guy with players that do not fit. The Patriots OL was better than ours with way less talent. We have some good Tackles
and an okay Center for Peters to work with. We now have some depth in Ford and Cochran. Just need to add a couple FA's and a somewhat early
Draft pick for Peters and things could turn around. I like that Peters had a lot of under Center play with the Pats. We need more of that here and
less Shotgun. We will see if this move changes things for the better.

Yet to be seen. You can't use MMA or Jits in the NFL, so what it comes down to really is attitude. Can he turn our current players into "violent" linemen? I think he can with guys like Cody Ford who play with a mean streak anyway. A couple of others, I'm not to sure about. Let's hope...

Because I don't believe it translates.... wrestling to learn balance I think would be the best cross training.

I have trained in all three and would argue otherwise, and would also posit that grip strength is a massive trait for the o-line which has massive merit in judo, jujitsu, and wrestling.

Consider looking for into them before dismissing is all I suggest.

Hands are key with O-line. A lot of it is hand fighting and hand placement. It is a good thing to have MMA/Jits experience. Cannot hurt.

I'm not dismissing anything, I just don't see Jiu Jitsu or Judo translating. I've never said anywhere that my opinion is fact.  I gave you wrestling. And grip strength is massively important, but you can get that in the weight room as well. Hey, whatever works.... it didn't work for Oggie, maybe it will for someone else.

I did not have a wishlist of Oline coaches because it's not something that is publicly tracked much (even the most in depth knowers of coaches typically only gets down to the position coaches, so finding a new position coach usually means looking at assistant position coaches, which most fans have no idea about), but if I had to choose an Oline coach to pluck a former assistant from, Bill Callahan is about as good as it gets.

I don't know much about Peters personally, but his coaching tree suggests he has the potential to be a good hire. And that's all we could hope to ask for.

all the media people buying into it, which leads to a lot of fans buying into it.

I have to see it to believe it. To me this just feels like another typical mike brown hire. We just have to wait and see I guess

BJJ is heavily focused on grappling, submission holds and hand/arm fighting, so I think a background in BJJ is a great basis for an Oline coach. Knowing how to engage, disengage and use your opponent's body and leverage to get them on the ground should be able to translate in the thought process and attitude towards coaching, even if the exact moves can't be used in the NFL (as many of them would be considered holding :) ).
