Happy Tampering Day

There's no SB coming next year. This FA period did nothing to move the needle.

As of this moment, I agree. The roster hasn't yet reflected enough improvement to compete for a Super Bowl. Additionally, who knows the feelings the four best Bengals are going to have entering the season (Burrow, Chase, Trey, and Tee) because of how the contract situations are playing out for Tee, Chase, and Trey. Yes, they are elite athletes and professionals but they are still people and any negative feelings they have about the contracts could impact their performance.

It's hard to argue that they aren't. I'm sure a couple or so outlier fans will disagree, but from a math and numbers point of view, I won't argue at all.

That's an expensive guard haha.

Fries to Minny.

5 years, $88 mil.

RG targets: Zeitler, Becton, Scherff.

LG tartets: Daniels.

The moves yesterday & before were OK. Briging back Hill, Gesicki, & Ossai, if on slight overpays.

Not a huge fan of the Slaton price tag. We could have just kept Reader for less than Rankins + Slaton.

Perine & Burks are good deals, but backups most likely. As most of our other retentions outside of Rehkow/Adomitis who were restricted.

Overall, I think we are in D/F range in FA. No big 3 deals. No Burrow restructure. No G help. No interior pass rush help. No S upgrades.

We did sign a starting pair of DTs who are both better run stoppers than pass rushers. A rotational edge for $7 mil. And a fine LB3 and RB2.

Still need 2 starting Gs, DE2, and DT pass rush. At a minimum. TE1, S upgrades, CB1, LB L2 upgrade, true WR3 would also help.

Daniels signed with Miami.

Bengals are re-signing cornerback Marco Wilson to a one-year, $1.52 million deal. Deal negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

We must be saving all this money and cap space to sign our stars: Bates, Higgins, Hendrickson…

I must be too casual of a fan because I don’t even remember Marco Wilson being on the team.
Wait he was one of the guys they threw out there when everyone else was hurt, right?

I don't know if it's updated with all the free agent signings thus far, but at least as of right now Spotrac says that would make him the 10th highest paid G in the league based off AAV. (Obviously contract structure including guaranteed money at signing matters a lot when being more accurate, but close enough.)

Marco earned that deal. He played pretty well.

They need to be busy today. Lots of work left to do. Many critical positions yet to be addressed.

I mean, we had to get that done before he was off the market. CB6 is a desperate need, after all!

PFF:
M. Wilson: 43.5
Fries: 86.9

Priorities people! With Cody Ford and Volson, we are set! Burrow does not need protection! Who needs a run game.

Wilson is replacement level/fringe roster guy. If we draft a CB, he'll be PS with Davis.

Justin Reid is still out there. He might be the only one left that would move the needle somewhat for me. Zeitler would be a 1-2 year stopgap that could help. If he even would sign here

I'm thinking Zeitler, unless his wife's alleged negative comments about Cincinnati are preventing him from coming back.

I know we know they badly need a guard or two but does the Bengals FO know that they need a guard?

Just give Becton a bunch of $ and get a good starting guard.

The best way to summarize this off-season, so far, would be if I told my wife Friday night:

I’m going to clean the kitchen and do all of the dishes and laundry too.

And my wife looks at me and says: you’ve never done all of those things how are you gonna get those done this weekend?

And I come back and say well I’m gonna start right away and get it done.

And then she says, but I’ve never seen you do all that before.

And I say well that’s not true. Remember that one time? remember? I did all of the dishes! Remember?.

Well, today is now Saturday morning, and yes, the empty dirty dishes were placed in the sink, but nothing is cleaned, and not a single load of laundry has been folded

Like the NT they got and linebacker. The Guard and edge market are drying up. Signing a stop gap guard then trading Hendrickson for a 2nd rd. pick that Tobin will likely butcher doesn’t sound ideal. At this point they need to keep Hendrickson and sign a guard quickly. Loosing the NFl Sack leader and not signing a legit guard will make this team worse.

This off-season is starting off spectacularly bad.

In no way is any part of this team improved. The defensive line is still a mess, we have 3 unhappy super stars, and we currently dont have a starting guard on the roster. All while tier 1, 2 options are pretty much gone.

What in the actual **** is going on?
