I can see the argument that he's had to be superman to be in that position (i agree). I'd just like to see him continue as the caped crusaider and convert at least 2 of those opportunities and then none of this clutch stuff is even being discussed.

P.S. The Mahomes stuff from everyone needs to stop too. He does have the best ownership/FO/HC in the league. He's surrounded by elite and very good players all around. But when the game is on the line, he doesn't fail. He somehow finds a way to get the job done. And it has nothing to do with refs. When you put the ball in his hands to win the game, he finds a way to win the game.

Reading your P.S. Rfaulk lol

Guess we don't agree on that one completely. Mahomes has had to rely on the refs, his Defense and his ST's many times to get wins this season.

Against us, he had to rely on the bad penalty on Daijahn Anthony to get the win and on that same play holding was ignored by the refs to offset
the penalty. He should of had another shot on 4th down to complete that 4th and 16 or whatever, not a given at all. Against many teams their
Defense is what won the game for them, against the Broncos it was a blocked Kick etc.

But yeah, he hasn't failed either, just saying he has a ton of help that Burrow does not get.

Flacco throws bombs to beat Denver in epic clapback. Burrow gets bent by Chris Jones and Trent Mcduffie.

During his 2012 SB run Flacco was sacked a grand total of 6 times. That’s not even the Titans game for Burrow lol (19 total).

Getting bested by 2 All Pros how terrible.

In the 23 AFC Championship game Chris Jones got to go up against an OL consisting of:

Jackson Carman - Cordell Volson - Ted Karras - Max Scharping - Hakeem Adeniji

Burrow was able to overcome an awful OL during those playoff runs with the help of his defense getting some timely turnovers. Now that the OL and the defense sucks it’s just too much for anyone. Even the guy playing like the best QB in the league.

Just not when he had to play behind a Bengals like OL. Wink

And in 0-0 / 0-3 games with under 4 minutes left Bengals are losing. More than they did under even Dalton. That’s what people struggle with when it comes to Burrow and the clutch narrative that all outside of this board have come to terms with.

These other teams we’ve played let it be noted, have had defenses that gave up 35+as well in wins against us. So it’s possible to win shootouts contrary to belief that has tried to be spread on this board. We’ve witnessed it.

Thanks for proving my point by name dropping Dalton. Andy Dalton played on much better teams than this one for a majority of his time in Cincinnati. Football is a team sport. This team is failing despite the best efforts of an MVP. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase are on an island surrounded by an ocean of ineptitude.

Mike Tomlin commented in team meetings that everyone (our over their heads coaches) surrounding our "choke artist" QB is gonna get a better job.

I can't believe this narrative of not clutch has any traction among our fans.

That and "can't turn it around in one year" make my head explode.

There are 2 completely different arguments in this discussion. Putting the team in position to win at the end and leading the team to a win in the end. One is just as important as the other.

Being able to overcome this shitty defense and Oline, to put a team in position to win, can't be ignored.
Not being able to overcome this shitty defense and Oline, in the end, can't be ignored either.

Agree rfaulk, good post. 2 different arguments being made in this thread, but there are some that won't differentiate/separate the two.

For awhile I was tracking Bengals points and other games being played during the week. The Bengals, at some points, were scoring more points than like 20 teams. The Bengals shouldn't be in a "chance to win" situation every game. A bad defense has them winning more often than not. This defense is non-existent.

Burrow has been running and gunning the ball, making up for everything else on the team, to just have Evan miss kicks and defenders miss tackles. One punt, one turnover and win probability drops and that is not Burrows fault.

coaching and a reliance on the long desperation bombs, rather than the ability to get the 1st downs and move down the field and score. that's the MO of the chiefs since Mahomes been there and which we can't seem to incorportate to our advantage with the loss of personnel.

I'm glad to see Lamarr is on the same page as with me, that's what I been saying all along.

Other team defenses > our offense.

I think Zac is unable to gague and adjust well with the current team (personnel) he has now...

What Ja’Marr really wants to say:

“Our defense is so trash we barely even have a chance despite me and Joe balling out.”

yea the 6th ranked offense is the problem and not the 31st ranked scoring defense along with a bottom 5 kicker

There are several things he could have said that would have been PC. He was taking responsibility for the offense. What he said was not untrue.

A great coach would keep the offense on the field a long time, tire their defense and and keep the opposing offense off the field...

That is how Bill Parcell won the Super Bowl vs the Bills who were heavily favored with their complete team and better offense.

The bengals let their defense personnel disappear, and could have kept better players on offense.. Hurst vs Sample, etc.

The team shot itself on its toe after gathering good, talented players... the bengals secondary is... painful. Most games have been lost by few points and I believe the D and O had as much chance to win them, not sure the ratio.
