DC/OL wish list

As to Oline; I'd look at Stever Oliver. He's Hank Fraley's assistant in DET. Hell Hank was even his HC for one year when Oliver played in college.

They have had a shotgun heavy offense the last two seasons and have done a good job, I think, of keeping their guys protected as best as possible. In 2023, their QBs were sacked 40 times but this was also a carousel of Ridder and Heinicke. Mostly Ridder.

With that in mind, a name I would throw out as someone to look at would be Assistant OL Coach Nick Jones from Atlanta. He has been an assistant OL coach for the last five seasons with both the Rams and Falcons.

Honestly this makes a lot of sense as far as O-line. We need to add some athleticism to the line regardless, but Mims is athletic enough
to be in the wide zone when in running downs, Orlando? Not so much but we run a ton of Shotgun anyways and I like how the Falcons
help out their O-line and RB's in the running game, reminds me a bit of Shanahan's Offenses in Frisco.

As far as DC's, I like Eberflus the best for us. Damn good DC, was just not meant to be a HC.

Another great idea for OL coach. Will just have to wait till the Lions are out to hire him and that could be a while...

I have no idea on an OL coach, but could we poach the OL coach from Lions if we named him Asst. HC/OL coach? Lions have a great OL.

For DC, I like same idea and poach Aaron Glenn who has done an amazing job in 2024 with a defense decimated with injuries. I also like Dennis Allen.

Looking to the future, I hope they go with a minority so after we win the Super Bowl, they are poached for a HC gig, and we get a draft pick. Ninja

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

With the Lions on a bye week, he can interview this week, correct?
Or does that only apply to coordinators interviewing for HC positions?
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

For OL, I know this is extremely unlikely since his son is the HC in Tennessee, but I'd call Bill Callahan in TN.

Overpay. Make him an assistant HC/run game coordinator if he wants it. And pay him accordingly.

I seriously doubt he'd do it. But I'd call. There are Bengals ties, right?

Highly doubt Fraley is going anywhere. Would have to hire Oliver, his Assistant like Bfine said and I would be more than fine with this.

Aaron Glenn will be looking at HC jobs pretty sure, not any DC jobs. He would just stay where he is most likely if he doesn't get a HC gig.

Not sure, that would be cool for us if we could interview him on a bye week. But interviewing coaches while they are still in the dance I think
is kind of wrong. They need to concentrate on winning the entire thing at this time even on a bye week.

Yes there are Bengals ties to Bill and I am for this of course. I just think he will stay with his son. Also, his OL wasn't very good this year from
what I saw. Maybe that was just lack of talent I don't know, but usually Bill's OL's are really good, not this year. Are they keeping Brian as the
HC in Tennessee is my question? Pretty bad opening year for him...

I see Al Golden's name getting tossed around, but he also just signed an extension with ND through 2027. I'm assuming the Bengals won't even consider a buyout.
Everything in this post is my fault.

It's going to be Aubrey Pleasant right? Maybe Ejiro Evero if he's fired from the Panthers.

I remember the Bengals having terrible LB play when Golden was the LB coach.
Unless he magically figured some new way to coach after he left, don't want him back.

EDIT - Nvm you mean as DC, not LB coach

I thought Logan had his best season with Golden as the LB coach? Maybe I am wrong and that was right when Bettcher got here?

Golden has done a very good job as DC for the Irish though gotta say. That is where he will stay though.

Golden was the LB coach for Wilson's first two years (2020-2021).

I am not sure how you are determining "best" season, but from both stats and PFF scores, 2020-2021 were some of Wilson's worst.
2020 (backup) - 33 tackles, 2 INTs, 3 PDs, 54.7 PFF score
2021 (full-time starter) - 100 tackles, 4 INTs, 4 PDs, 53.9 PFF score

Since then:
2022 - 123 tackles, 1 INT, 4 PDs, 72.7 PFF score
2023 - 135 tackles, 4 INTs, 9 PDs, 62.6 PFF score
2024 (11 games) - 104 tackles, 0 INT, 1 PD, 72.3 PFF score (boosted heavily by his run defense this year)
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season

My personal fav for DC is Wink Matendale (DC/MICH). And he can bring Kenneth Grant with him.

You read my mind; Wink Martindale also has AFC North experience as the defensive coordinator of the Ravens. He’s old and crotchety which are positive attributes for a defensive coach.

Ahh, thanks Ocho. Logan's best season was 2022 for sure under Bettcher.

He’ll love us if he’s on our payroll. Wink was good with the Ravens and with UM he shut down Ohio State and Alabama. He’s worth an interview.

I remember Wink with the Ravens getting torched by Joe Burrow and our Offense our Super Bowl year. That is what I remember from Wink.

Also a valid point. Which defensive coordinator totally tore Burrow up? Maybe that is who we need to hire.

I'd like to see Jim Knowles from OSU get a look but he probably makes more money than he would here.

Jesse Minter won't come here but Steve Clinkscale could be intriguing.  He was Michigan's co-D coordinator with Minter and coached at UC a brief period.  The problem with him is I don't think he's ever been the head guy.

Leaning towards Saleh for DC. Who I think it will probably be? Allen.

For OL maybe get an assistant from either Detroit or Philly.

Please just no lazy in-house hires. Even if it did somewhat workout with Pitcher this season. Getting this DC right will either save or cost Zac his job. I don’t see him getting multiple staff turnovers while the clock is ticking on Burrow’s prime.
