DC/OL wish list

For the record, I am performance based first and always. Saleh has a proven track record in SF and is also a minority.

I think he would be a great hire.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

I am not a fan of Wink Martindale.

It is an interesting thought, but no.

And if we ball out and someone hires him away, we'd get a pick.

Yeah, I could put up with a few more penalties on Defense and a bit more dirty play if we are a much better Defense overall.

Saleh is about as proven as it gets besides Eberflus who I just think fits better. Would be fine with Dennis Allen as well who sounds like
the most likely as he has ties to Zac somehow.

Why in the world would that happen?

Anyway, players often emulate their coaches, and we could definitely use a bit of nastiness on that defense. I watch how fired up Dan Campbell’s players get by him and I end up wanting to bite some kneecaps off. Tongue

Idk what that 2nd part has to do with hiring him but ok

He’s the son of Lebanese immigrants.

We definitely need some nastiness on both sides of the ball, but especially on Defense.

Ah, thanks Nicomo. Didn't know any of this. Just know he is a damn good Defensive mind and has coached some of the best recently.

Just isn't a HC, just like Eberflus who I also like.

They do until his contract expires next week. There's a chance McCarthy has grown tired of Jerry World and is ready to move on.

Whoever they bring in, they need to upgrade the talent on defense. I never thought Lou was entirely to blame because we just dont have the talent some other teams have on defense. I hope Bengals management doesnt think all they need to do is hire a new DC and everything is going to be great.

We'd get draft picks if he went on to another HC job. San Francisco has been playing that game masterfully with minority coaches.

I'd like either Eberflus or Jim Knowles.

Saleh had a ton of talent on that 49er defense to work with.  Several of those guys were Pro Bowl level players from 2017-2020.  He wouldnt have that in Cincinnati.  Show me a DC that has put good defenses out there while having mostly mediocre talent.  That is the guy we should hire.

It's much easier to have a good defense if you have DeForest Buckner, Dee Ford, Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman, Fred Warner as the foundation of your defense.  He wouldnt have near that amount of talent here.

I would like a DC, who doesn't play prevent Defense 95% of the game.
I think Allen would fit nicely here as a DC

I think we need to onboard the new DC and OL coach before figuring out who to pursue. Both of these depend on the schemes the new coaches feature and favor.

Absolutely. That is why the decisions needs to be made quickly.

OBJ's lack of mobility does limit the OL scheme somewhat. He isn't pulling on a trap too often.

My personal fav for DC is Wink Matendale (DC/MICH). And he can bring Kenneth Grant with him.

Isn't that the guy who whined when Burrow scored to many points against him in Baltimore?

There's plenty of good or even great coordinators who just aren't able to keep up with the times and are left behind, and I fear he might be one of them.

Same here, love Mike Zimmer and wanted him to be HC here, but I'm afraid his style doesn't really work anymore. Of course, he has worked with young defenses before when he had the Fisher Price D-lines
