You and I were the founding members of the Cordel Volson sucks club. I figured you'd applaud anything that pushed him to the bench or another profession.

I find this very insulting...

Round 1 - Tyler Booker - OG - Alabama
Round 2 - Donovan Jackson - OG - Ohio State; Marcus Membou - OG - Missouri; Tate Ratledge - OG - Georgia; Jonah Savaiianaea - OG/OT - Arizona
Round 3 - Dylan Fairchild - OG - Georgia; Charles Grant - OG - William & Mary

Personally, if Savaiianaea is there at 49, we need to grab him. He can play OT and OG.

Membou is gonna be gone in round 1 and Fairchild is a day 3 projection.  The guy from Arizona in 2 is good and  Grant may be a sleeper.

I'm not sure how you can look at his "sacks allowed" and say it's not much of an upgrade. It may be a wash running the ball, but he's a better pass protector than Volson or Cappa either one.

Where are you getting Volson making 3.8? His salary last year was 980,000, and he doubles it with incentives. That's less than two mil.

2024 PFF grades seem decent. But then you see Patrick had a 40.6 PFF pass blocking grade in 2023 and 30.8 PFF pass-blocking grade in 2022.

Higgins' deal is in at OTC. $20.3 cap hit this year, then $28, $31.3, $34.8.

I know there have been a few replies to this post.  I’ll just add my two cents as my reply will echo a few of the others.
Membou will be long gone by 17.
Booker will probably be there.  Some team might jump us to take him, thinking we might.
I think Jackson is gone by 49. Grey Zabel too.  Jackson is my dream pick for them should he be there.  I doubt savaiinaea is there but he could be.  I think they will take him, ratledge or Wyatt Milum in two.
If they wait until 3 emery jones from lsu would be a solid pick, if he’s there.  Jared Wilson, center from Georgia could be there and we move karras to guard.

I think the need for pass rush is too great to skip in 1.  And the bengals have generally preferred to draft a skill in 1.

It's going to suck passing up on dline talent in the first 3 rounds for a guard....

And yall by your need count have all of our 6 picks starting/contributing. I think you all are asking a lot of our 6 picks, but anything to avoid giving a failing grade to this FA period.

With the numbers they have for IDL right now, it would be a crime to go there instead of a much bigger need @guard.

I'd prefer a safety in rd1 and a guard in rd2 but i'd be ok wih either a ED or LB in 1.

Depends on the guard. Booker, Jackson, or Zabel are fine with me.

Outside of Graham, I think most of the DT guys are late first/early 2nd types (Nolen, Harmon, Grant).

Ditto at DE. Most of the "true" DE's are late first 2nd types (Scourton, JTT, Jackson, Sawyer). Most of the higher end guys are OLB types (Carrer, Green, Pearce, etc) and/or trais guys with not much production that I'd avoid (M. Williams, Stewart).

Bottom line, there is not a true DE ir DT type I'd mourn missing out on if we go another direction at #17. If Warren, Walker, or Johnson drop to us, I would not pass on them to take Nolen.

If not, I am fine trying to trade down and/or going with a G (Booker, Jackson), LB (Campbell), S (Emmanwori, Starks) or TE (Loveland) instead of DL. Even CB.

Now, if we go away from DL twice on Day 1-2 ,we are likely gonna need a FA signing on the DL (Campbell, Smith, etc).

But generally, I think you can throw a blanket over 16-60 in this draft in terms of talent/upside. With DL, RB, and pass catching TE's going well into Day 3 with good options

I forgot about safety and we'd need to grab one early too. Just unfortunate to miss out given how great the draft is for dline talent in the top 100.

I like to play with mocks. Membou is gone in top 10 and Booker has been going by 14 a lot. Guys like Jackson, Zrabel and Milum for WV are gone in top 10 picks in round 2. The Arizoana OT Savaiianaea is most likely to be available, but not sure he upgrades our OL in 2025.

Sawyer from OSU is dropping like a rock for sme reason. In many cases he is available with 3rd round pick.

There are 2 guys I would love at 17, safety from SC Nick Emmanwori or Grant DT from Michigan. I think we could trade back and get Grant, not sure about Nick Emmanwori. I think Nick may be the better choice to improve our defense immediately, with Grant or Green a close second.

It reminds me of them passing up on TE's in a deep TE draft in 2023 and RB's in a deep RB draft in 2024. Just to grab 2 TE's in a weak TE draft in 2024 and deal with RB issues all of 2024 (even though the emergence of Brown came from it).

We had the worst starting G in the league last year and the other wasn’t far behind.

We could sign a crash-test dummy and consider it an improvement. Or traffic cones. A 5th grade school crossing guard with a flag.

Saying this dude is “better than what we have” is just disingenuous.

And we all agreed G was a huge need. Almost everyone agreed we needed 2. Strangely, no one mentioned Lucas Patrick until we found out he was visiting. Now, certain folks are Baghdad Bob’ing this guy even though we all know he’s not a tangible upgrade at one of the most important positions on this roster.

And I don’t want to hear “but the DRAFT!!!” from anyone. A) It’s mostly revisionist copium (absolutely no one claimed we’d be fine waiting for the draft for a starter when FA began) and B) we ain’t real good at the draftin’ thing.
If you see something suspicious, say something suspicious.
