Trey Hendrickson Update
It wasn't our first team defense tho. BJ Hill, CTB, Dax Hill did not suit up and we on total were down 5 starters. I still expect Golden and Zac are angry over what they saw out there.

well maybe Tre would move from his position we would have a deal but he as not moved at all it seems while the Bengals have

If they're not angry, we can expect more of the same. It was an embarrassing display from all angles. Every time the D made a mistake, I drank a beer. Do I need to tell you how F'd up I was last night?

I'm not an alcoholic, I am a Bengal's fan.

Yep defense was more than disappointing. Our DB's I thought could be a strength but could not cover anyone. We did not have 4 starters playing defense I believe, so maybe they would be better, but Golden can't be pleased not am I as very least, it showed we have horriblde depth on offense and defense.

We still need a better RG, a swing tackle, better OL depth, and impact players on D. And a backup QB. And special teams cost us, what, 10 points?

How different did this scheme look to what Anarumo used to run?
I know at least Golden called some DL stunts yesterday, so there's at least some variation?
I am wondering (and worried) if and how long it may take (some of) these defensive players to adapt to the new scheme.
That's why we have preseason games though, I guess.
Better be ready by Week 1.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Well, I'd fit the bill on being gone for a year and being invested in the Sewell/Chase debate, but I can proudly say that I never participated in any such behavior. I've never been immature enough to follow anyone, and I've definitely never issued any warnings that weren't fully merited and based solely on rules violations. Usually name calling.

Tbh, I think highly of both of you and would be disappointed if you felt differently. That said, I still know I can hold my head up high. Things get heated sometimes on here, but I never take it personally or let it affect decisions.

Tbh, that's largely why I stepped away. If you post a lot as a mod, people always accuse you of bias. Heck, even if you don't post. ?

Tbh, it jaded me and made me look at the boards quite differently after almost 10 years of that.

It was the majority of our 1st team defense, and they were going against the majority of their 2nd team offense.

While true, I'm still not worried: key pieces of those starters weren't in, really, only the Ss, Wilson and Slayton were the key guys in yesterday, everyone else is a 2/3 on the starters totem pole (Hendrickson is tops, CTB and Hill are tops, BJ Hill is another of the tops, etc.).

Of those key guys, they all played well (save for Logan getting washed out on the big run), so I'm not worried at all.

If week 3 rolls around and all of the key guys are failing, then there is cause for concern (and it might be too late at that point).

Also, Newton had the pick, it was taken away by really just fluke/1 in 100,000 chance, which would've given us momentum and perhaps another score. He's looking quite good this year.

Newton could not have played that any better, he was in perfect position. Sometimes the ball just bounces the other way.

Man, that pissed me off. I've yelled about this way too much and to see him fill a tiny hole and leave such a gaping one was frustrating for as long as he's been around...

Yeah, I just shook my head. He's usually really good at filling the hole, but I do remember a few distinct times in the past couple of years where he did take the wrong angle (it was the opposite with Pratt: he would NEVER take the right angle, save for once in a blue moon).

Ivey also had a rough first 2/3 snaps, then a really good 1/3 snaps. He is a top gunner on Teams and every time he had played on D for us since drafted, he has popped some nice plays.

My mentality is always that once the 3rd string/PS/cut guys come into the game, it is purely to see some big plays and be entertained: if they get gashed, I couldn't care less.

That Johnny Wilson is a tough cover for any Corner. Fig had the pick alright against any other guy that isn't 6'7" and can adjust like
that. I wanted us to draft Johnny bad for this reason. Damn Eagles always taking my picks. Agree though, I am not worried, Golden
will get the Defense on track by the regular season. This was a nice wake up call for them before the real games.

Agree. I back Logan about the most as he is my fellow Wyominite but he needs to fill that hole against the run. Terrible job. Whatever

We dont know that Trey hasn't moved. We know they've agreed on years and the avg but we dont know how much either side moved to come to that agreement.

Yeah once the later guys come in its tough to judge. For me its more about seeing breakdowns if certain players are playing with the correct leverage and how guys on both lines are playing.

Also I shouldn't even mention it because its preseason and it doesnt matter but they seemed to be calling a really tight game on the Bengals. But I believe it was one of Brownings first drives it ended on an incomplete pass to Jones but the replay looked like the DB was doing karate on him before the ball got there. Just popped in my head today when thinking about some of the Bengals bone head penalties. But better now than the regular season.

The frustrating part is the mental error. He's straight up on the G and all he has to do it extend his arms and drive him straight back, make the RB choose and come off to make the play and he decides to dive hard inside. C'mon man...

AND he has help coming from his right!!

The issue was TJ Slayton slanted the wrong direction away from the front side of the zone run. Demetrius Knight should have used his hands and took on the free climbing OL instead of trying to play around him in my opinion too.
