Bengals Front Office Needs To Get With It.
#1
The Bengals can't waste a year of Joe Burrow. The time to win is now.  However Bengals are not even close on DE's Trey Hendrickson and Shemar Stewart. What Bengals front office are going hard headed over would not even be an issue for most NFL teams, such as guaranteed contracts.

If the Bengals try to play 2025 without either of these players, they will lose. They have to sign one of them before training camp not that far away. The Bengals are trying to improve one of the worst defenses in NFL, but if neither play for Bengals, the defense will be even worse and Bengals will be a last place team.

There are trade offers for Hendrickson for a 2nd round pick next season, and trade offers for Stewart for even worse picks next season.  None of that helps the Bengals in 2025, and the Bengals need to WIN NOW while they have Burrow, Chase, Higgins to make a Super Bowl run.  You can not go Super Bowl without a good Defense though.

The hour is getting late.  All Bengals have done is make both Hendrickson and Stewart very mad.  They wanted to play for The Bengals, but they have about had it with Mike Brown and his front office hard headed cheap ways.

If Bengals do not sign one of them, Bengals will not win.  If Bengals front office refuses to sign either, then Bengals front office wasted their money on Burrow, Chase, Higgins, because Bengals will lose without Defensive Ends.

Of the 2, we know Hendrickson is good.  The rookie has not proved he belongs in NFL yet. If the plan was to draft a rookie and jerk Hendrickson around in contracts, that plan has blown up in Mike Browns face.

I hope it works out.  We Bengals Fans could have a Super Bowl team if Front Office would just stop jacking around on contracts. It's time to roll out the footballs and have Summer camp and Preseason and get ready to WIN in 2025.  All Super Bowl Teams say it all began way back in Summer Camp,  It is time for Bengals front office to start thinking Super Bowl and get out of their Last Place Cheapness.

Unfortunately, the Brown/Blackburn family's well-earned reputation for managing the team their way will result in 0 Superbowl wins in the long-term foreseeable future. If I were Burrow Chase Higgins, I would not renew my contract after the term ends and move on to another team with a chance to win the Superbowl. The Bengals only chance to win a Super Bowl would be for new team ownership even if that means they move to another city. Mike Brown will never change, and I'm not sure Kate Blackburn is any better. Oh well, at least the Bengals offense is fun to watch!

They can sign both Trey and Stewart and finish 9-8.

Stewart gets so much hate on this board.  As a potential player, he has said the most accurate statement concerning this front office than any player before.  Blackburns/Browns could give a rats ass about a Super Bowl.  As long as they win arguments and manipulate deals that supports their delusional paranoia fear of losing the team, in their eyes, it is better than having the Lombardi.  Super Bowl is a secondary or tertiary goal in their myopic world.  They want total control due to the paranoia from 60 years ago when the patriarch, Paul lost control of the Browns. If they get lucky making the playoffs and by circumstance they get in the Super Bowl, so be it, as long as in their eyes they still have control it is all good.  Their motivation is control such that it benefits the family and the fans be damned.  The family lives on insecurity and it is their motivation on managing the team.  They don’t care about wins and loses like the fans do. It is all about control.

This front office is absolutely pathetic!how any of our fans are blaming this on the kid is beyond me..This question bares asking if this thing drags out until next year's draft who does it hurt the most??This team is coming off of 2 consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs so how can they afford to lose aka forfeit a 1st rd pick because of some dumb unprecedented language??

How can we be a team with superbowl aspirations and constantly have tumultuous off-season after off-season??This front office is truly the worst in league but we already knew that..

I’m not apologetic of the FO bungling Tee,Trey, and Chase. Had they bit the bullet earlier we’d have more cap space. But when #16 & #18 picks had the same language in their contract that’s not on the FO. Blame them for not taking a second rounder for Trey if true but he’s asking for a ton. He’s average
in run defense and yes that’s part of the equation. They will both be at camp.
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

Given Trey's example of jonesing for more money every year even after he was extended we likely save nothing by signing players early. And with Stewart once it became clear what the clause in question was and that other teams already include the clause all sympathy for him disappears.

The Bengals told Trey they’d pay him appropriately then he had a great year. They aren’t Lilly white here.

so basically what you're saying is that it's ok to forfeit a 1st rd pick because if he doesn't sign then he can just re-enter the draft next season..so again I'll ask is that stupid language really that important that we can just forfeit a 1st rd pick??

When you look at the overall picture, is the team supposed to let a rookie dictate their policy?

My personal take is that while I don't think the player's camp is bad for taking that stance, many fans 1) don't care about whether the player gets guarantees or not, they just want a player to play well and help their team get a Super Bowl win, and 2) have the stance of just don't do dumb stuff then and you won't have a problem with the guarantees being taken away.

I kind of understand #2, but the wording in the contract may be so vague that it's not worth the risk.
I 100% don't care though whether a player makes $1 mill, $10 mill, or $100 mill. As long as a Super Bowl contender can be put on the field is all I care about.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs

Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

we are talking about basically forfeiting a 1st rd draft pick and your talking about not letting a rookie dictate policy..This stupid language is pointless if we forfeit a 1st rd pick over some dumb ass language that means nothing the fans should never forgive this franchise this is self sabotage at it's core..

We aren’t forfeiting squat. Stewart will sign the contract as configured.

We have absolutely no idea as to how close the Bengals are to getting deals done or making decisions on hendrickson and stewart..and neither player alone will ensure a bengals superbowl...oh to be a fly on the wall

Winning record over the past 4 years...sellout home games would suggest the front office is not anywhere near pathetic...lol@ forfeiting a 1st round pick..stewart will be in summer camp..and the last two years you speak to....burrow out injured..burrow not 109% as he saud...both starting offensive tackles out with injuries..,starting RB on IR...higgins missing many games and not 109%...plus the inordinate amount if injuries to key players on defense

I think it might be a stretch that this team NEEDS Stewart to have success.
Bengals need Hendrickson, I'll give you that, but if they are going into the season NEEDING a draft pick to be successful, they didn't do enough prior to the draft and are likely risking a lot banking on rookie performance.

The way I see it, Stewart is 4th on the pecking order for DEs behind Hendrickson, Ossai, and Murphy.

And what has Stewart shown to convince the Bengals to back down in their stance?
He/his camp continue to talk to the media about the situation, putting the team in a bad light (whether it's true or not), which may not really give the Bengals incentive to fold to his/their demands.
At this point, there are no organized football activities for another month or so, so there's no need to rush the contract signing right now.
If Training Camp is about to start though that week and he still isn't signed, I would have a different view.

Bengals not having Hendrickson would be a huge risk to the success of this defense given he's averaged 14 sacks a season while a Bengal.
With no other pass rusher on the roster now who has put up even 6.0 sacks or more in a season, that could really result in a barren cupboard when it comes to the pass rush.
