Notes From Training Camp 2025
(Yesterday, 12:48 PM)TecmoBengals Wrote: Spot on. I'm interested in seeing how the defense performs. The Locked on Bengals podcast was describing their views that Golden seemingly has players better understanding their responsibilities and that the defense is playing with high energy. Who knows how that translates to the regular season, but hopefully it offers some optimism that an improvement over last year if forthcoming.

I'm confused as to why they are content with the IOL though.

They are not content with the OL...they made some definitive charges.. maybe just not the players snd coaches you desire..The only way you and some others are going to be satisfied is only if the team spent money on big name players, most at the tail end of the playing careers

Or some name recognizable player coming off a serious injury

Again..there will be some very good younger and healthy players available at the end of training camp if the team wants to go that route

That " sucky OL .. last year...even with the loss if two starting tackles contributed to one of the best offensesin the league

And now we know restructuring your contract and getting MORE guaranteed money doesn't guarantee a roster spot....

They did right by Zach...there was always a better than 50/50 shot he would not be on the active roster this season.  You just don't come back from a broken neck.  The guaranteed salary provides Zach with a paycheck this year even if it was lower than what he would have made without the restructuring and playing

I guess that's why PFF has them as the 31st rated group coming into 2025?

https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-2025-nfl-offensive-line-rankings

Quote:31. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals overhauled their guard pair with journeyman Lucas Patrick and third-round draft pick Dylan Fairchild. However, the rest of one of the worst offensive lines in 2024 remained in place. The offensive tackles, in particular, will need to improve drastically.
Left tackle Orlando Brown Jr.’s 58.2 PFF overall grade ranked only 66th among 81 qualifiers, while rookie right tackle Amarius Mims’s 57.8 mark placed him 67th.

What was that about the starting Tackles from last year?  Oh yeah, they could stand for a big boost in performance as well..

Let's not make him out to be some kind of martyr. He did not break his neck for the team, he broke a bone in his neck because he was playing football for millions of dollars and stuff like that happens in contact sports.

You beat me to the reply. Also, let's have common sense prevail that since Burrow was a top QB for getting rushed, knocked down, and sacked, it isn't a good recipe for a QBs overall health. And no, citing Burrow is a QB who likes to extend plays doesn't give the OL a free pass.

Would love to bring in Hernandez, he could seriously be an upgrade to Patrick if healthy and I like Patrick better than most.

Oh yeah, I know we had McKinnley Jackson but he was a rookie and was banged up early last season and some say isn't a true Nose like
Slaton is. McKinnley is more of a hybrid, he can flash against the run and the pass which is nice.

Poor guy, heard about his injuries last year and how this might be the end of his career. Best of luck to you Zack. ThumbsUp

Alright, might have a diamond in the rough here in McLaughlin. Good news all around today with Trey ending his holdout.

I'm confused about that lowest blitz rate stat. I'm looking at this site: https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/advanced-stats-qb.php

He ranks high in getting sacked, knocked down, hurried, and blitzed. What's the different in blitz rate and blitzed?

If we base our 2025 OL adding Fairchild and Patrick or any 2 guards won't matter. Based on PFF, we have 2 horrible OT's. Th eonly way to fix the line would have been to cut Brown and Mims...................unless the FO thinks Brown who was injured and played anyone and a 2nd year player Mims improves.

If they don't guard play won't matter, JB will continue to be hit the most of any QB in less than 2.5 seconds like he was in 2024.

Why aren't the guard haters also hating on Mims and Brown? To be fair, both were a major part of our OL woes in 2024.

Then you have the Eagles who have 2 OT's ranked in the top 4 OT's in the NFL and we wonder why they won a SB and we did not make the playoffs. If Brown and Mims don't make major improvement, we are screwed.

Wow. That flew so far over your head.

He's saying that while playing for your team, he got injured...then didn't even get a "how you doin?" from anyone associated with the Bengals.

That's lame.

It has, honestly was surprised by how bad both Orlando and Amarius graded out by PFF last year. Orlando was hurt pretty bad though playing on
one leg for a bit, Amarius was a rookie so he should really improve. Playing next to Volson and Cappa didn't help, we will see. Hope we bring in Will
Hernandez now that he has been cleared to practice.

The vibes are certainly feeling good right now. I think the defense is going to improve and it could be a really good year.

Couldn't that work both ways Nate? Maybe our tackles were as big or bigger issue as the guards. As for center, he is just OK also so we didn't have one great OL among the bunch n 2024 and years prior.
