I think Bengals need to do more in guarartees in year 2, but I don't agree any major signing bonus he gets which is 100% guaranteed should not be counted as a part of year 2 guarantee. If they give him a 25 million signing bonus, they are taking him at a minimum from zero guaranteed money in current contract to at least 41 million in guarantees plus he can earn 200K per game in 2025 currecnt contract, not guaranteed, but hopefully he earns as he stays healthy.
I am more optimistic after reading this knowing hey have agreed to the money portion.

It is, but for me the dollars he can earn is bigger. He wants to go from 16 million to 32 to 36 million a year, that is a huge number. I am not saying he is not deserving, just a huge number.

Guarantees to a player beyond the first year is really nothing more than security.
A team can offer and sign you to a contract, with no intention of paying you that in later years, i.e., not guaranteed. If you're a player, that's a bit disingenuous. The later guarantees just means you're going to see that money and the team isn't just going to cut you to save bucks.

MB doesn’t have to worry about the bengals staying in the browns family. All he has to do to ensure that is simply not sell the team.

To me it seems like a strategy to get 2 years guaranteed. It sounds better than 3 the Bengals should thinking. I think he deserves the Bengals to push theyre norm a bit. Guarantee 2 years and hope he takes it.

I think we're talking about a few million for year 3. It's semantics if Cincy guarantees 100% or 80% of year 2, either way he is here 2 years. With a raise this year and siginig bonus, I can't imagine Cincy is guaranteeing much of a 3rd year. So, Trey's 3rd and final year is him getting say for example 10M (his camp) or 4M (Cincy) when he's cut. They have far too many young players that will need signed..I know we keep saying this.

Look at Sam Hubbard, who is now 30 years old. I realize he was injured last year, but can anyone really say his performance did not start to drop off around 27 or 28 from where it was before that? Hendrickson wanting guarantees until he is 33 or 34 is ludicrous.

Hopefully they can agree to two years guaranteed and get the deal done. I think he has at least earned that, and the risk-reward is well worth it. He is the best player on defense at the moment, and needs to be there for younger players like Stewart to learn from.

I agree.
The age-to-performance issue was the mistake which led to the loss of Whit (Bengals should have tagged him).
Although a DE will not last as long as a T in this game, because of the physicality needs of the position; however, I feel that Trey's game can age well if there are no serious injuries.
Von Miller's game which is built on speed and bend, started suffering around age 31, because of severe ankle and ACL injuries. Then he lost his speed to power.
So, a two year extension, which means we have him for three years till he turns 32 would be ideal. I thought Bengals were not interested in an extension, but based on Tobin's recent comments, it seems Bengals are looking at an extension.
