What Bets Do You Like For The Season?
Posted by: BFritz21 - 05-01-2023, 03:34 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (29)

I'm presenting to two classes at a school in the east side on Friday, which means I'll have to go by the casino on my way to and from, so I figured I can stop in the new sportsbook and place some bets!

Here's the website to the Barstool Sportsbook in Lawrenceburg, which the odds have to be the same as the Barstool at Hard Rock in Cincinnati.

Obviously going to put a hundred on them to win the Super Bowl at +900 and a hundred to even make the Super Bowl at +500.

I'm going to put a hundred on Burrow to win MVP at +800 because, with protection, I think Burrow wins easy. Might put $200 on that.

Might do a hundred or two to win the division, but, at +110, is it even worth it to only win roughly twice what I bet? Could bet more on that because it's looking like a done deal (barring injuries).

It doesn't have Chase to win the receiving title or anything like that, so I'll probably go back in the summer, but what do you think of those bets and should I bet anything else?

  Mitch Wilcox and Brandon Allen
Posted by: pally - 05-01-2023, 01:14 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (36)

So far they haven't signed an UDFA QB nor picked one up in free agency. No way they are going into camp with just 2. What do you think the odds are Brandon Allen comes back but this time as QB3 not QB2?

Kind of the same scenario with Mitch Wilcox. Obviously with Smith and Sample TE #1 and #2 are already signed. It surprised me when they didn't tender Mitch Wilcox. I thought he was clearly better than Asiasi and the fact we never elevated a TE off the PS says he was clearly better than them as well. He is the one player I kept expecting to see a tweet announcing he was signed to a 1 year contract. Will we see him in camp?

  the interior Passrush
Posted by: kalibengal - 05-01-2023, 12:46 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (34)

First off, I like the Murphy pick and will bring some edge speed we lack.
But the question is how did we improve our interior passrush? are we sold on Zack Carter who I dont think logged one full sack? Sample is a good motor guy and is solid backup but Im concerned since we barely eeeked out 30 sacks last yr.
We were so much better with Larry O along side Reader in this regard.

  A New Jackson Carman?
Posted by: pally - 05-01-2023, 12:44 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (77)

Media had remarked earlier that Carman looked thinner at OTA's. He says he actually weighs the same but he has spent time reforming his body so he has gained muscle mass and lost fat %.

He said he has been doing a lot of non-football workouts...yoga, gymnastics, water exercise. If the means a stronger, more flexible, more in shape Jackson, I'm all for it.
and tries to improve on it
He may end up not being the answer at RT either, but I give the kid a lot of credit for keeping at it, He takes the feedback and works to implement it. I get the feeling he has matured a lot in his 2 seasons with the team

  Joseph Ossai update

Joseph hyperextended his knee on that infamous play against the Chiefs. Of bigger concern is that he tore the labrum in his left shoulder in the 2nd Browns game. He had surgery in early Feb. He expects to be ready for the season

He says they have already having extension talks and he is hopeful they will get something done. He also said his shoulder feels the best it has since he originally injured it in 2031

The Bengals add depth to their offensive line with a guy who didn’t allow a sack in 2022.

Bengals add more speed with a UDFA WR.

Shedrick Jackson (Wide receiver): After spending five seasons at Auburn, Shedrick Jackson signed as a UDFA with the Cincinnati Bengals, his agent confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser on Saturday. Jackson ran an unofficial 4.25 40-yard dash at Auburn's Pro Day in March and caught 16 passes for 217 yards in 2022.

Bengals Special Teams Coaches Happy With The Draft
Posted by: kevin - 04-30-2023, 05:34 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (13)

All word from Bengals Coaches is how excited the Special Teams were loaded up in this draft. More so than most drafts. The Bengals went all out to get Special Teams players who also have the talent to play Offense or Defense. They even got a Punter. A lot of Kick Return guys and guys who can fly down the field and make tackles and Blocks on Special Teams.

Coach Taylor said they were in a position to get the Special Teams coaches a lot more help, but these players will help on Offense and Defense as well.

Coach Taylor also said he doesn't see RT as a huge need. In fact he feels he has Carman and others to let Williams and Collins ease back from injuries. Taylor said they ae more stocked on O Line that some people think. So it gave them a chance to add the DE and everybody after that can not only play Offense or Defense, but ae great Special Teams additions. Taylor and the Coaches think they are well set for another Super Bowl run, and they like this draft very much, it filled areas of need with top talent.

Also, if you look at the speed times, the Bengals just got a lot faster. Some of fastest players in the draft. They even added a track and field star as well as his football, who can do shot put and pole vault and Olympics things like that. Great Athletic Ability added in this draft at all picks.

The Bengals drafted a ton of freaks
Posted by: CJD - 04-30-2023, 01:00 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (27)

From Bruce Feldman's annual "Freaks list."

Each year, Bruce Feldman looks at the most athletically gifted players in college football for the upcoming season and ranks them based on the "freakiest" players from an athletic or physical standpoint. His most recent list was prior to the 2022 season.

Something of note: This is in all of college football, not just in the particular draft class.

Of our 8 selections, 4 of them showed up on the Freaks list for 2022. The excerpts are below:

Quote:3. Myles Murphy, Clemson, defensive end
Murphy made 43 tackles, a team-high 14.0 tackles for loss, and a team-best seven sacks in 2021. The 6-5, 275-pound junior is viewed by NFL scouts as a “significantly better player” than former Tiger Clelin Ferrell, who went fourth overall in the 2019 draft. Murphy bench-presses 405 pounds, power-cleans 335 and deadlifts 505. He also has vertical-jumped 35 inches, broad-jumped 10 feet and consistently clocked in the high 4.5s in the 40, according to Clemson coaches.

Quote:31. DJ Turner, Michigan, cornerback
A former three-star recruit who has made big strides in Ann Arbor, Turner’s grown from 177 pounds to 187 and is coming off a strong year. He made honorable mention All-Big Ten after producing 33 tackles, nine PBUs and two interceptions. He is the fastest guy on the Wolverines, having hit 23.07 mph on the GPS and run a 4.28 40 — out of a two-point stance, no less. His 3-cone time is even more stunning. He clocked a 6.29 this offseason, and strength coaches think he has a good shot at besting the combine record of 6.28, set in 2018 by Oklahoma’s Jordan Thomas.

Quote:3. and 34. The Brown Twins, Illinois
We’re listing them together because I couldn’t decide who should be ranked higher. The Brown twins are from Ontario and the sons of a former CFL player and a figure skater.

Chase Brown, a 6-0, 207-pound running back, made the All-Big Ten third team in 2021 after rushing for 1,005 yards and five touchdowns. He added 4 pounds of lean muscle mass this summer while losing 3 pounds of fat. He also has reached 22.5 on the GPS on one of his long touchdown runs last year.

Sydney Brown, a 6-0, 211-pound safety, made All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2021, led Illinois with 81 tackles and also forced two fumbles. He added almost 6 pounds of lean muscle mass this summer while losing 1 pound of fat. He has also hit 22.4 mph on the GPS in-game.

“I’m addicted to seeing little results, no matter what it is,” Sydney said. “I’m in love with the process, whether it’s the diet or the workouts, the coaching tips that I get. That’s what really drives me. He’s a little more laid-back than I am. I’d just say we’re both very explosive in our own way.”

Quote:15. Andrei Iosivas, Princeton, wide receiver
One of the best players in the Ivy League also is one of the top track athletes in the country. On the field, the 6-3, 205-pound Hawaiian — his name is pronounced “Yoshi-vas” — had 41 catches for 703 yards. In track, he finished fourth in the country in the heptathlon and ran the fastest 60 in NCAA heptathlon history (6.71). Iosivas bench pressed 370 pounds this month and has vertical-jumped 39 inches. His 60-yard dash time would, by his own estimation, translate into a 4.2-something 40, but he points out that it was also out of the blocks and on a track, so maybe not. His position coach, Brian Flinn, predicts when Iosivas goes through the draft process and performs those tests he will “destroy them all. He trains year-around on how to start and sprint.” Iosivas bought a Jugs machine when he was quarantined during COVID to keep honing his skills.

Some interesting tidbits from these excerpts:

1. Myles Murphy did not do the broad jump in the off season and his vertical was only 31 inches. So he performed better leading up to the combine than he did at the combine. He did beat his 40 time of "high 4.5s" with a 4.53 though.
2. DJ Turner did not do the 3 cone at the combine, but this states that he could have potentially broken the record had he done it.
3. Iosivas' coach predicted he'd destroy the combine, and he did. Posting a 9.92 RAS.

I'm not sure why the first two did not test in these certain areas, but chances are if they did, we would not have gotten them where we did. If turner breaks the 3 cone record, chances are we aren't getting him at 60. So...that's great haha.
