Although I’d prefer to get the bills and chiefs early, I doubt the nfl isn’t going to try and capitalize on a huge match, like last year, towards the end of the season.
I’m also going to predict time slot potential.
Id put a lot of money that bills, chiefs are prime time. That means that there are 3 remaining slots for the bengals (5 total prime time). There are up to 10 more games where I could see the schedule makers be interested in a prime time spot: our six divisional games, Seattle, Vikings, jags and 9ers. I think the bengals play overseas this year and my hunch would lean towards the jags. This would semi give the league another prime time game without utilizing the prime time slot.
2023 Season
HOME
Baltimore Ravens (1 or prime time)
Cleveland Browns (1 or prime time)
Pittsburgh Steelers (1 or prime time)
Houston Texans (1)
Indianapolis Colts (1)
Los Angeles Rams (1)
Seattle Seahawks (1, 4 or prime time)
Minnesota Vikings (1, 4 or prime time)
Buffalo Bills (prime time)
AWAY
Baltimore Ravens (1 or prime time)
Cleveland Browns (1 or prime time)
Pittsburgh Steelers (1 or prime time)
Arizona Cardinals (4)
Jacksonville Jaguars (1 or prime time) (England?).
San Francisco 49ers (4 or prime time)
Tennessee Titans (1 or 4) (England?)
Kansas City Chiefs (prime time)
None of this matters much, but figured we are a 4 days away, what you think!

Joe Mixon, Jonah Williams show how the Bengals value contracts and commitments |

I remember back when Carson Palmer forced a trade out of Cincinnati, Mike Brown was on record saying "Carson made a commitment to us, and we made a commitment to Carson". They were hell bent on not trading him until they got on offer they couldn't refuse.
It was silly to think the Bengals were going to entertain the idea of cutting Mixon or trading Jonah. That's just not how they operate and it's not how they've ever operated. They value the commitments of players and the contracts that they sign.
Another part of me makes me wonder the kind of message that would have sent if this organization were to cut Mixon. We know the Bengals don't guarantee money, but the essentially guarantee length of contract. They RARELY cut guys before their contract is up (especially star players or larger contracts).
If they were to cut Mixon (VERY liked on the team, outspoken leader), their credibility with holding true to contracts would have been shot. Not great timing when you're trying to sign Higgins and Burrow long term and most likely not offering a ton of guaranteed money (at least to Higgins). I really do think this is a big part of why Mixon wasn't let go.
So, do I think the Bengals wanted to cut Mixon and trade Jonah? Yeah, I do. Especially the first part. I think the Bengals know the kind of message that would have sent to the players in the locker room and around the league, though.

on 5/2 the Bengals announced the following players were NOT asked to re-sign with the team
LS Clark Harris- hope he has a great retirement. I would love to see he and Kevin Huber as "Rulers of the Jungle" next season
QB-Brandon Allen-so this was before he signed with the 49ers. They had planned for him to move on
S Brandon Wilson-he just wasn't a good enough S to hang on once he lost his return job
CB-Trey Flowers
CB-Chris Lammons- he had 3 days before he was charged with assault
and
CB Eli Apple-so all the speculation can end. Looks like unless someone gets desperate his NFL career is over
Mitchell Wilcox is still apparently in the mix

Was going to start a thread about Dexter Lawrence and the Giants agreeing upon a 4 year $90 million dollar extension in the Around the NFL thread. But this does affect the Bengals I feel in that it essentially ensures Reader will not be a Bengal after the upcoming season- assuming the plan is to keep the three amigos together.
