Interesting numbers as to snap counts

Would like to see some of the young guys get more snaps in the last game.

The old Tyler Boyd thread bump had NOTHING to do with calling out any poster. Which I didnt. I specifically said that I could have been wrong then and still be wrong today.

I remember the conversation vividly as it went 8 pages with many opinions shared. I hoped to see if anyone had changed their minds due to Boyd's diminished productivity the last 2 seasons.

My hope was to parlay that conversation into one regarding moving on from good players that have real value due to the impact that Burrow & Chase will have on the cap moving forward. The Patriots were famous for this during their run.

Boyd would be my primary high value guy to move on from in hopes of obtaining a high level olineman and potential 2nd round draft pick immediately after the Super Bowl. This was prior to Karras & Cappa.

Last season I may have also suggested Bates, that would most likely had been a mistake as Dax obviously wasnt ready.

Tag and trading Tee seems to be the player with the most value we have this season that we would be willing to part with.

Some names worth mentioning:

DT Madubuike of the Ravens is likely to be a high end signing. Very solid PFF grades, only 26 yrs old, with 14 sacks,16 hits and 32 hurries.

DT Wilkins of Miami is 28 and had 9 sacks this season and seen as a Top 10 DT.

If we dont resign Jonah
RT Trent Brown could be a money saver and is absolutely leaving NE. He missed some games and he has been at odds with the Patriots. But in 579 snaps this season he has an overall PFF grade of 80.3 (72.8 P & 80.8 R).

Not sure if RT Eluemunore will leave the Raiders as Im sure they will try to resign him, but he had a good season giving up 5 sacks and a PFF score of 70.0

  Free Agent DT

Here is a very good option, if Ravens don't tag him.
Defensive tackle: Justin Madubuike, Ravens
The first of several Ravens defenders who made my list, Madubuike's breakout season as an interior pass-rusher has been remarkable. While the 26-year-old flashed at times and looked to be a solid starting tackle over the previous couple of seasons, I'm not sure anybody was expecting him to be the league's most physically imposing interior rusher in 2023.

Well, he is. Watch the Ravens every week and you'll see Madubuike living in the backfield, simply overpowering opposing guards and forcing wild scrambles and throwaways from opposing quarterbacks. While Ravens coordinator Mike Macdonald relies on zone pressures to create confusion on the edges of protection schemes, Madubuike simply overwhelms them from the inside out.

Would love to steal a Raven's player

For 2024: We Need a New Identity on Defense
Posted by: Fan_in_Kettering - 01-01-2024, 07:17 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (3)

Early this morning I started a thread on a new look for the offense and the postings on that thread are excellent. Now let’s turn to the defense because the “bend but don’t break” identity is NOT working. Yes, Lou Anarumo and his players showed occasional flashes of brilliance here and there in 2023 but statistically they are at or near the bottom of the league in most defensive categories. This is not a recipe for success.

Losing Von Bell, Jessie Bates, Larry Ogunjobi, and — yes — Eli Apple too has proven devastating. The young guys like Dax Hill and Jordan Battle might be good someday. Don’t get me started on Nick Scott; you can time his 40 yard dash with a sundial. Also, I think Chidobe Awuzie’s best days are in the past.

To me it’s 25% players and 75% scheme on defense. The tackling is, on any scale, horrendous. I’ve seen Christmas presents wrapped up better than opposing ball carriers. No matter the players’ talent level they will constantly underachieve if they are in the wrong locations on the field. Too many receivers got on top of our secondary and the scheme seems to encourage this.

  2024 Opponents Revealed
Posted by: cinci4life - 01-01-2024, 05:35 PM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (25)

At home we play Ravens, Steelers, Browns, Broncos, Raiders, Patriots, Eagles, and Commanders

Away we play Ravens, Steelers, Browns, Chiefs, Chargers, Cowboys, Giants, Titans, and Panthers

So this will be the 6th time in a 4 year span we play the Chiefs and once again on the road. You'd think they're too scared to come here.

For 2024: A New Identity on Offense?
Posted by: Fan_in_Kettering - 01-01-2024, 11:12 AM - Forum: JUNGLE NOISE - Replies (94)

Yes, I know my postseason Monday morning quarterbacking is starting a week early but this up and down season is still fresh in my mind. Right now, at least as I see it, the Cincinnati Bengals need to develop a more recognizable offensive identity in the offseason. Right now it looks like Zac Taylor and Brian Callahan are trying the strategy of “throw jello at the wall and see what sticks” with respect to play calling and play design.

A strategic decision must be made before free agency opens and the Draft is upon us. Moving forward in 2024 and beyond is going to take some serious strategic planning. The first question should revolve around the offense: Do the Bengals go Air Raid, Smashmouth, or something else? Air Raid worked nicely against the NFC West (4-0) but fared badly against the rest of the AFC North (0-6 or 1-5).

(I’m well aware the terms “Air Raid” and “Smashmouth” mean different things to different people. If anyone has better terminology please feel free to share.)

Bengals please make History next Sunday against the Browns.

No Division in any sport has a record where all teams have an above .500 record.

If the Bengals win in the last game [exhibition game] of the season all four teams will finish above .500.

Above . 500, no - but there are two divisions where the last-place team finished . 500 exactly: In the 1991 AL West, the Angels finished last at 81–81, and in the 2005 NL East, the Nationals finished last at 81–81. library(Lahman)

With nothing left to play for by either team, the game will be played on Sunday at 1PM. I expect the Browns will rest their starters against a Bengals team playing for pride
