Pass rushers in AFCN |

The bengals have the privilege of playing against two of the best pass rushers in NFL twice a year… Watt and Garrett. It seems like the bengals just don’t have an answer for them, most teams don’t.
Watt has played 13 games against the bengals, he has 12 sacks. TJ watt has 96.5 sacks over 104 games, meaning he has gotten 12.5% of his career sacks against the bengals.
Myles Garrett has played 10 games against the bengals, he has 12 sacks. Myles Garrett has 88.5 sacks over 100 games, meaning he has gotten 13.5% of his sacks against the bengals.
These two have combined for 24 sacks in 23 games, whereas they have 185 sacks against 204 games for their career. If you remove the bengals from the equation, they have 161 sacks against 181 games.
Garrett/Watt v bengals, 1.04 sacks/game
Garrett/Watt v nfl non bengals, .89 sacks/game
Watt has sacked the bengals at least .5 or more times in 10/13 games. In 3 games, watt has had a goose egg (in the sack dept) against the bengals.
Garrett has sacked the bengals at least 1 or more times in 9/10 games. In 1 game, Garrett was held without a sack.
I’ll set the over under at 4 sacks combined for these two, where are you laying the money? Over or under?
I’ll set the over under at 1 game, out of 4, that one of them is held without a sack. Over or under?
I’m going to say under for both. No reason, just a pure gut feel.
Btw, this all came from a recent discussion that burrow had regarding having to treat TJ watt as a DB and the stars were astounding.

Burrow's Excited About The Offense's Versatility |

Two articles I rolled across a few minutes ago detail how different our offense will look under Pitcher and how we'll utilize so many different weapons.
We've already pointed out how Burrow will be under center more now that he's healthier, and that, coupled with how many different looks that we can give teams, make our offense a very dangerous squad.
CBS Sports lists some of the changes to the roster, which we all knew about:
Quote:The Cincinnati Bengals offense experienced a lot of change this offseason. While one of the most high-profile potential changes did not come to pass as Tee Higgins signed his franchise tag and will remain with the team in 2024, the Bengals did part ways with longtime running back Joe Mixon, replaced departed offensive coordinator Brian Callahan -- now the head coach of the Tennessee Titans -- with quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher, allowed slot receiver Tyler Boyd to leave in free agency, signed tackle Trent Brown, running back Zack Moss, and tight end Mike Gesicki, and drafted Amarius Mims, Jermaine Burton, and Erick All.
But then it lists how Burrow's excited about all the different things that our offense will be able to do, and how we'll use the tight ends more. It says that Gesicki will play in the slot more, which has me excited because he ran his 40 slightly faster than Boyd, who played from the slot, and he's 4 inches taller than Boyd. That size difference will make Burrow be able to see him better than Boyd and also allow him to run routes over the middle more.
Bengals Wire also mentions Burrow's enthusiasm and, again, mentions the ability to put different players in different positions. That excites me because, with so many weapons that we can put all over the field, it makes it very difficult for coordinators to make game plans against us and difficult to call defenses.
Quote:“With the personnel we have this year, we’ll be able to do a lot more with personnel groupings. Putting different people in different spots,” Burrow said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “And doing a lot of different things as far as eye candy and making teams adjust their personnel based on ours.”
That's what I love about Burrow being healthy enough to be under center because it brings the run game more into the mix and changes how the defenses will have to play us in the box and in pass rush because he won't be a set figure that they can just tee-off towards at the snap. I'm not saying that Burrow will get out of the pocket much and be elusive, but it does make a difference.
Chase can also line up in the slot more, as can Burton and the other tight ends, and it just makes us very dangerous in how many different things we can do, which the article ends summing up my whole reason for this post and why I'm so excited:
Quote:Which is to say the Bengals, on paper, should be able to dictate games better rather than sitting on their heels and reacting to what defenses do. Provided everyone stays healthy, that should be beneficial right in Week 1 and throughout the season as they add layers.
Health is always important, but we should have a big year ahead as long as we're not unlucky with injuries, which we should be able to survive any injuries outside of Burrow and to our offensive line.
It's going to be a hell of a year!

Worst To First In The Division! |

Yahoo ranked the teams it thinks has the best chance to jump to the top of the division this season, and, not surprisingly, we were ranked first.
Quote:The case for: It doesn't require a lot of faith to buy into a group that won 22 games from 2021-22 and reached the Super Bowl and AFC championship game during that span. Despite Joe Burrow's injuries - a calf ailment contributed to a 1-3 start before the quarterback was lost for the season in November to a wrist issue - Cincinnati still forged ahead to a 9-8 mark, with their playoff hopes lingering until Week 17. Burrow's recovery bears watching in training camp, but his trajectory is thus far reassuring. Signing Trent Brown and drafting Amarius Mims to address the hole at right tackle could position Burrow to enjoy the best protection of his career - though that's not a very high bar. Meanwhile, a defense that was undone by its league-worst allowance of explosive plays should be in better shape at safety thanks to the arrival of Geno Stone and return of Vonn Bell. It's little wonder why the team didn't budge on trade requests from two key starters in wide receiver Tee Higgins and defensive end Trey Hendrickson: This is a legitimate contender.
If we can finally protect Burrow, I think he's going to have a monster year. Signing Trent Brown should fortify our line because I think Orlando Brown has a big year. Burrow could be scary good this year.
I've already talked about how I like our end rotation and how we should get good play from the interior with guys like Hill, Jackson, Jenkins, etc, and they left Dax out of the secondary talk, which I think he could be good at corner,
Quote:The case against: The AFC North was the only division to have four teams with winning records in 2023. It may be even more brutal this season. The Bengals' offense could experience a few bumps with running backs Zack Moss and Chase Brown stepping in for mainstay Joe Mixon and a new No. 3 receiver needing to emerge following the departure of dependable slot Tyler Boyd. The pieces are in place for progress along the defensive line and in the secondary, but some recent unproven early draft picks will be counted on to become reliable contributors.
The AFC North is always rough, but I think we're a team finally built to go through the gauntlet this season.
Brown and Moss are a massive upgrade from Mixon, IMCO, and Burrow can make any receiver look good, which Burton, Irwin, or Iosivas could easily step into the #3 from the slot, and not to mention that Chase will play some slot this season. They also didn't even mention our tight ends, who could be big for us and I think Burrow looks their way a lot.
Quote:The bottom line: Cincinnati completed the worst-to-first transition in 2021. The team won't have nearly as far to go to repeat the feat this year. As the only group on this list that finished above .500 last season, the Bengals are a far more proven product than any of the other candidates. They might be behind the Ravens for the title of AFC North favorite, but it shouldn't be by much.
The X factor is our line because Burrow will destroy defenses with time to throw and then I think the defense will just create lots of turnovers with teams having to throw to keep up with us and having a stable of defensive ends that can get to the quarterback with guys also coming from the defensive tackle spot.
What do you think?
